Not that I am under the impression that the devs feel the need to explain anything to thier customers, but any rationale about the number of OMUs in a crate? I don't know if you have been discussing this with them (or if you can tell us), but if you can share, was 10 to a crate not "starwarsy"?

Anyway; I am not enthused by this number, it does reduce the impact these have on our inventory by a factor of 5. Would I be happier if they had left it as it was? Nope. Am I happy now... well, I'm lslightly less unhappy. In another 18 months the devs will look at us again =(

By the way, these are legitimately in the space mining category: They plan on pushing us all out of an airlock.

Im sorry you are still unhappy, but this will make me and probably most of all the architects happy as well as our customer base as we can now more easily craft harvesters. An 80% reduction in inventory is a pretty good improvement.

So, all of the other "mining components" come 10 per crate (since the beginning of time) and the OMUs came0 per crate since the beginning of time. After almost 24 months someone manages to find the obviously obscure and secret place in the code proper (I assume this value isn't in a table someplace since that would make too much sense) and says "I'll change that number". And picks the number "5" out of the air? Why 5? Why not 42, or 666, or .... ?

I'm not unhappy with the number per se (although this isn't an 80% reduction in storage space by any stretch of the imagination).

I'm unhappy because:

- it took 24 fricking months

- someone picked a number out of the air with zero throught to it

- clearly the number of devs that know anything about the architect profession is a fat zero

Dvnce I agree with you about it not being an acceptable fix. But it's something... I mean we actually got something.. It's a step in the right direction hopefully or maybe they figure if they give us this then we will shut up for a while.. lol

To be honest, I am very pleased with this fix, and the number for that matter. The DEVs have always said that things crate in their perspective crate size because of the size of the item. Now to all of those that are going to counter that Wall Modules are crated at a higher number and they theoretically are bigger then an OMU, I say shush, you will warn the DEVs and then find Wall Modules only stacking in crates of 5. I mean come on, we have been begging for24 months now for OMUs to be crated. Now, they get crated, and all the community does is complain about the size of the crate. No wonder the DEVs don't do any Architect Bug Fixes. Once they do something to help us out a little, we yell and scream about it. Now we get crates of 5, thats awesome, like someone mentioned, thats a 80% decrease in inventory space that OMUs now take up. The fact that most of the serious Architects out there probably have almost an entire house full of uncrated OMUs, this is a huge deal. Instead of only being able to hold 100 OMUs in a house, I can now hold 500, thats a significant increase.

To make this change even more significant, I can remember Dvnce reporting to us a couple months ago that the reason the DEVs had not worked on crating OMUs, and increasing the size of any current crates, was because the Cross-Server Lot Trades were making resources too easy to come by, and people were hoarding resources. There hasn't been a nerf on the Lot Trades, yet we got this fix. We should be rejoicing in the streets of Coronet, holding celebrations throughout the Galaxies. Going against what they told Dvnce, and gave us something we wanted.

So me personally, will be holding my celebration next to my Structure Factory as I watch each OMU go nicely in their crate (once it hits Live).

I would take a wild guess that they might have picked 5 cause the light ore mining unit is 5. The light ore mining unit might be right next to the ore mining unit in the code too.

I doubt that is a wild guess. I think you hit the nail on the head.

Maybe suggest to devs that WE decide the crate size during creation of the schematic, but increasing crate size beyond regular size for the product increases factory time. The more dramatic the increase in capacity of crates, the more significant the time cost in factory production or something. Usually the want to take and give, more take than give but oh well.

No, they don't. And I think that Pawlin is probably right on the money on his guess. Everytime I think about the software architecture of this game I cringe.

Grateful that a company selling me a product actually listens to its customers two years later? I guess I have a different model of what it means to "delight the customer".

5 is better than 1. They crate. I am happy and pleased with the fix.

Of course, I checked this thread only because I thought someone was joking. I guess with that sort of attitude, it would be easy to please me.
