Thread: What are your prices?
I sell a lot less than my friend architect who sells at about 4 cpu lol. But when I make a sale I make a good sized profit, often the equivalent profit of selling 4 or more at a very low margin. So my quanitity of sales may seem low but my profit isnt bad. When no one is ordering I always have my resource mining to fall back on. I don't feel like I have to jump through hoops for clients who don't appreciate what I do, I am my own boss in effect.
Best of all, I am not hurting the economy for any future Architects, my sacrifice now (I don't skill up all that fast) at least offests the minimalist prices we see from alot of architects who IMO undervalue their work.
Think of it this way too, selling a medium harvestor for 10k credits to a client. In 24 hours that person has extracted 4500 units of resources (from an 80% vein) and has sold it on the bazaar for 13.5k credits (3 cpu). Take away 1440 credits for maintenance and maybe 1800 credits for power and you are left with a profit of 10k from the first 24 hours. It paid for itself in 24 hours. Shouldn't a money maker like that take a little more investment to purchase?
I saw a PA hall on SS for 185K.
I am moving on to something else for awhile. I messed with my template and can get novice Commando or smuggler and keep my Master Architect status for a week more weeks and decide if i want to go deeper into combat.
If people are serious about buying a PA Hall they will pay 450k or more. 185k is just stupid. The architect profession is the only one that I have seen where people keep selling themselves short. If you are going to sell at 3 to 4 credits per resource, save yourself some heartache and sell your resources on the bazaar.
Don't forget when you sell those cheap harvesters, you are selling the ability to make money. Charge accordingly.

If you dont sell for lower that 4cpu at this point, you better not need alot of income.
You actually don't NEED a lot of income. Even if you have, for example, 8 medium harvestors and 2 solar generators then you will only need 14.4k credits a day to keep them maintained. The extraction from ONLY ONE HARVESTOR (on an 83% vein) sold on the bazaar for 3 cpu will cover the cost of running the other 9 installations.
Another possible way is to sell finished wall modules to master architects for 3 cpu, that way you can get the benefit of the XP also. Advertise on your specific server board here and keep firm on the 3 cpu price, it might take a week but you will get it and make a nice profit also.
We have to be smarter and patient.

I Sling a pretty mean pistol too.
Heh, my sig too.
I usually sell for 3.25 to 3.5 credits per resource.
Small House: 11k
Medium House: 65k
Medium Generic: 75k
Mineral Mining Installation: 13.5k
Other Medium Harvestors and Factories: 48k
Heavy Harvestors: 115k
Fusion Power: 115k
Large Homes: 130k
PA Hall: 250k
Generic PA Hall: 275k
Since I mine all my own resources which comes out to about 0.25x cost per unit and I am selling at 3.5x per unit I have a nice steady income. Furniture I price at 4x per metals, 8x per hides, and the stuff sells out pretty quickly once I fully stock my merchants. I've got about 1.25 million in credits now, so I'm not too concerned with making much more, just building something every now and then to keep my account where it is until urban planner comes out.
Medium Houses: 60k
Large Houses: 120k
Large Harvesters 120k
PA Halls: you dont have enough to make me make one
Medium mineral harvesters: 10k
Medium anything else harvesters: 60k
factories: 35k
Regarding the "I can sell resources for 3x" well, yeah I do that too. But no one on starsider is going to pay 240k for a large house, so why bother. I make a tidy profit with these prices, which are roughtly 3x cost (my cost is under 1c/u).
I encourage other architects to charge more. It helps my business.
Unfortuantely, since the architect has the installations line within it, every yahoo wants to build harvesters and mine....or buy harvesters and mine. Some are fighters out for the thrill of selling resources, some are just checking it out, but there is no denying it, the profession is flooded. With it, come the grinders that will undersell houses and equipment happily. I have seen small houses going for 7K on Intrepid now...I refuse to sell that low. I will just make my deeds, and my mining equipment, factories, and make money on resources. I no longer will sell medium or large harvetsers. I don't need the money from the equipment sales, and I am not 'helping' the very people who will turn around and cripple me in the market. People moan and complain about the cost of structures, but they are the same fools that would empty their bank account for an 'uber' weapon. Architect is just too wide open.
To those who undersell.......you obviously need a few critical failures on major installations to rethink your prices.
Sorry for 3 in a row but that last sounded more rude than I intended.
I deal daily with /tells and holomails from people saying thatI'm one of the people "ruining" the economy. However as I said, I DO NOT take waiting lists or special orders at those prices. All my price set means to other arch's, if anything at all, is that a few people will come to my shop first in hopes of grabbing the items at my prices. Ususally someone has beaten them to it and I get a mail "Hey I need to order one of those 45k med house pls". I respond "Sorry but 45k is a first-come, first-serve price. I can make you one on a special order but it wil cost 60k((or whatever I decide based on time/resources in stock etc))"
Oh and there are plenty of places that charge $5 and UP for a burger. But that doesntmean Micky Dees and BK will be upping their asking prices((and having a nice profit margin even at their low prices))
I think the one thing not really mentioned much here - though obviously a factor in everyone's pricing - is competition. Of the lists above, I'm probably closest to Questlin's charges. They're far from the highest quoted but also realistic enough to offer a decent return without sellingmyself short (his/her PA hall is far too cheap tho!).
Perhaps Radiant is a busy server for architects, but I've sat at winced seeing some folk flogging their structures for pennies in Bestine town square on Tattoine. While ignoring the cut-price jokers, my prices reflect the average charges for the planet - and server - as a whole.
One positiveside of unrealistic low pricing by rivals is these up and coming architects won't be around for long, because they're running on a shoestring and willstruggle to gather asafety netbefore their first couple of nasty critical failures. They'll also quickly realise they could make more cash running missions for a whole lot less hassle.
Sure, we all need the exp at some point, but when your prices fall toless than the market value of the raw materials, you should perhaps be asking yourself why you're bothering. As things stand, thisis a finite market with no decay and an ever-dwindling number of customers. Every architect's chargesshould reflect that.
