Of course we can. Myself and many others operate fine without lot swaps.
yes you have lots of friends pawlin. i know tzosskinati he got alot of friend to. but i am an architect. and if i had to rent lots from guild friend etc. i could never keep up with the demands ahazi have had lately. it have settle down now after alot of the new player made architect and they got harvys.
but set friends aside. can you say that you have np managing your own company(like an new player do) with only 10lots as an architect?

He said you can't run an Archi business without lot swaps. I do. You can.
I buy the bulk of my resources on the open market. Its not from buddies, guildmates or any network. I just go to galaxy vendor search and search for the cheapest stacks of 100k ore or whatever else I need. I have no problems finding plenty of grind material for 1-2 cpu.
I currently have 2 shops, 3 structure, 2 equipment and 1 food factory. Which is plenty to keep my business running. So yes I can honestly say I manage my business fine with my own lots. I do have an alt but use those lots for other things.
If fewer people felt that they HAD to use lot swaps then it would open the market up for more architects and likelyincrease our prices.
since i sell harvesters for a living... lot swaps help alot ![]()
to increase my income that is.

true on both points but once the market increases to a price that no one can afford, everyone will lose.
It doesn't hurt us if our goods cost more.
People will always be able to afford harvesters since harvesters are money making machines. I see no reason why the economy cant support higher prices for our goods. Our prices are pretty depressed right now, IMHO.

I'm an Armorsmith. To do one run of primus armor cores--just one--I require 300k neutronium steel, 168k polymer, 168k gravatonic fiberplast, 192k vintrium ore and 144k of perovskitic. There's three types of armors, each needing its own run of armor cores. I have one house, one tent, and one guild house, so that leaves me with 5 lots.
Each run of layers is 3 days. It takes 12 layers for one of those core runs, making it 36 days, times three for 108 factory days. Divide that by 5, and it's 21 days per--22, really, after downtime and rounding up.
That means if I used only my own lots, assuming I could get a usable shift of each resource, which would then be instantly consumed by the factories, I'd be doing one run of primus armor per year at the most.Considering it's my biggest seller--and that the cores, segements and armors themselves all take different stuff, for dozens of different types of minerals and chemicals--yeah, I kinda need lot swaps, borrowed lots, rented lots.
First off in general, inmy opinon:
Borrowed or rented lots = ok
Lot swaps = Not a necessity.
We don't NEED to produce X units of anything in a specific time period. What happens if you don't? You've got unmet market demand. Then what? Your vendor sells out and you can't fill customer requests. Then what? If you absolutely can't make 1000 suits of armor in a month then that means your output capacity will be limited. What happens then? Serious.
Either the server starves for armor or more people jump in to become armorsmiths and fill that need. Supply and demand will balance out and the market will take care of itself.
None of us NEEDs to produce a certain amount or fill a specified amount of market demand ourselves. That is definitely a WANT.
Obviously more factories = more production. But you don't NEED a certain number of factories past 1. 1 factory = need. 2+ factory = want.
I've got an armorsmith on another server. I have 1 wearable factory. HE produces stuff at a trickle. I have not encountered the "game over" screen yet.

If I want to run my business in a way that I find enjoyable for me and reasonable for my customers, yes, I do need more than one factory. Otherwise, it's just a drudge and a job of nothing but waiting, especially if I can't afford to buy every resource I need.
You can play the game however you want. Thats fine with me. And of course I'm also free to declare that I don't think we need lot swaps and that the game should not allow it.
Why can't you afford to buy resources? Aren't you selling your goods at a profit? Or are you selling master produced items for less than what the raw materials would go for?
We don't need lot swaps. I don't need them. You don't need them. Nobody NEEDs them. (note I'm making a distinction between NEED and WANT) If lot swaps didn't exist then the other methods would fill the gap. Maybe you'd rent all your lots, that would be cool by me. But don't tell me you need something that is not mandatory. You WANT it.
Lot swaps are not intended and SOE may nerf them at any time. You ought to be prepared for that eventuality, like it or not.
