I have invested alot of money into weaponsmithing and much to my dissapointment!!!

I CAN NOT understand for the life of me why weaponsmiths sell thier weapons so cheap????????

I mean come on people....your charging less for weapons than the person will pay to have the thing sliced....Give your heads a shake!!!

Do we as weaponsmiths really want to sell as many weapons as possible?? I think the answer should be no!

We should be trying to maximize profit!

People are going to use our weapons to go out and make ALOT of credits running missions, harvesting resources (organic which sell for minimum 10cpu in most cases) yet all we want is a measly 1-2k for our weapons???

There is alot of work/money that goes into getting Master weaponsmith, than gathering of resources, factories harvestors and so on.....so why give your products away?

It blows me away that people will pay 10-20K for buffs that last 2 hours yet they want to buy their weapons that last a heck of alot longer for 2k......the reason for this is US....weaponsmiths selling high quality weapons dirt cheap!

I can't see me being master weaponsmith much longer, now that I've wasted millions only to see the guy put a tent up beside mine selling weps at a fraction of the price.

Its really discouraging!!

So my message to the weaponsmiths of Flurry is this.....People need weapons, lets stop trying to undercut one another and sell our weapons at the prices we deserve.

It's a consequence of the competition new smiths are under while they collect the correct resources.

As an example, I'm currently resource-limited, so my weapons can have advanced barrels and stocks and cores, but I can't make an advanced power handler, vibro unit, or feeding mechanism yet. Therefore my weapons are inferior to those of true master smiths and I have to sell them on the cheap to get any sales at all. As a point of reference I'm currently running 14 medium harvs and I have serious issues making daily maintainance on them. I have to choose to either put fewer harvs on that Ostrine ore or the nice polysteel with 1900+ cond/oc or I run survey missions to make ends meet. I make about 40k credits in sales daily, most of which are from seriously nice scouts and DLT20a's that I whince and put on the bazaar for 3k. To get sales in my shop the price has to be at obviously less prices than the going rate.

So now I'm becoming known as a reasonably priced weaponsmith, when I do have the resources at my disposal I'll have to make a decision. Jack my prices up, potentially losing my established customer base of players that have bought from me when I needed it most or keep going as a price leader with solid equipment and buy buttloads of factories to keep up with demand. I can see benefits to both possibilities.

So it's not so simple as "price high and make a huge profit per item". There's overall revenue needs to account for, plus you have to keep in mind who your established customer base is.

Thanks for your insight, its much appreciated!!

However, the point I'm making is not that we should charge outragious prices.....just that we price our goods in perspective.

The problem I have is people selling weapons cheaper than you can buy a SLICE or BUFFS, hell cheaper than a ticket to another planet...

I mean think how many weapons your going to have to sell in order to make it anywhere close to being worth it if your selling them 1-2k

You're right, 1-2k is definitely way too low. Even though I'm "undercutting" the true masters, I'd never price that low. It's more a case of using 20 cpu as my baseline and then factoring in named resources and such instead of 30 cpu like others.

If they're selling at 1-2k I can't imagine they could keep up with demand. They'd run out of resources weekly if they did that on Kauri

it can take some time to get your name established, even when you have all the resources. I sold very cheap at first, yes even intentionaly undercutting, for a few weeks. I broke even most days, profited on others, but the biggest accomplishment was earning a solid customer base. As soon as i noticed i had quite a few of the same names showing up in email sales notices, i gradually raised prices with each item i restocked.

You make a very good point there. I really hope that is why people are doing it. But there are a alot of underpriced weapons on the market in my opinion...on flurry that is.

Again thanks for giving me hope.

I have no problem with new up and comiong weaponsmiths charging less for their weapons. This is, in fact as it should be, I, however, happen to know established long-time Ws's that are charging 2k for sliced advanced scout blasters and other such items. I don't understand this either. I do understand why it happens, though.

As a smith you have to collect literally dozens of resources, and to get good prices you have to buy them in huge quantities. then two days later a resource shift occurs and one or more of your hard purchase resources becomes 2nd or 3rd rate. After a few months of this you have literally hundreds of thousands of units of so so resources.

So what do you do? Can't sell the resources, at least not at a price to make it worthwhile, so you make a bunch of 2nd rate (but Master) type weapons and use them to undercut your competition that is just up and coming. They have not yet accumulated the array of resources that you have and therefore can't compete either in quality or price.

Problem with a player run economy is that it takes hundreds of years to perfect, and even then it does not guarantee that any newcomer will be able to survive...

Thier is/was a problem liek this on gorath a while back........

But ive found that i dont sell on price...i sell on the name (being one of the original amishts from launch) and quality. Quite frankly im probably the most expensive smith on the server....or at least oen of the 2 most expensive on my server (me and a gent named thoax). I still sell out of stuff very fast and make millions a day take home in pure profit a day.

If your a master smith makign decent stuff........its in YOUR best intrest not to undercharge for the weapons. If your server is anything like gorath the economy is so screwy that many a fighter is a multi millionaire and they can afford to dish out alot for a weapons.

Don't worry about someone selling cheaper than you, someone always will. One of the early masters sold thier goods way cheap and put a major crush on the second gen of weapon smiths on flurry. Basically because they couldn't compete with the other early masters. Concentrate on your resources, if you make quality weapons, the word of mouth will keep you in the black. Some people will buy a less expensive weapon simply because it is less expensive... personally I have always felt you get what you pay for. I don't do discounts, I don't do sales gimmicks. Some smiths need to have a rabid fan following to feel justified...my customers tell my how good my weapons are with thier wallets. Keep at it, you will do fine. If you need anything holler at me ingame.

What I see on flurry is a HUGE price variance. Extremely cheap to way over priced. I have a vendor setup in a tent with 2 other weaponsmiths. One is an established weaponsmith been around for awhile, and the other is a new Master Weaponsmith, like I am. I try to look at the current weapons they have to offer and to what price. Since the resources are somewhat poor lately, and not enough of thecritical ones, I try to make whats in demand. Whatever results I get, I compare to what the other 2 are offering and base my price on theirs. If my weapon is better than the new Master Weaponsmith but not as good as the established Weaponsmith, I base my price in between the 2 of them. However, what I find is both of them offer weapons at a price way to low. (I think) I do know there are players on Flurry that have credits to burn so will pay any price you list because they will probably slice 20, keep 5, and sell 15 at a higher profit. Other people don't have enough credits to by a shuttle ticket, which is why some weaponsmiths keep the prices down.

If there was some sort of price list with stats that all weaponsmiths adhered to, then this thread wouldn't be here. So for now I base my prices off the other 2 weaponsmiths, if I don't I won't sell anything. Half the time I make something I don't know if its any good because I have never used the weapon before.

I tend to keep my prices at what i consider a reasonable level. I'm not the biggest or the best known weaponsmith on Flurry. But I have been around for a long time, and plan to stay with it. I keep my prices at a level that allow me to comfortably keep my vendors stocked. Also, to keep my workload down, I only specialize in ranged weapons.

I also keep my prices at a high enough level to protect novice smiths, unlike weaponsmiths like the one Reldurpa mentioned. Keep your quality high. People will seek you out.

There's nothing wrong with narrowing your production range, then selling off your excess resources. This won't help your mass production, but will help the bottom line. Concentrate on what you can do well, then make money off of that. Get consistantly profitable. From there, expand into new territory. It's a modest formula, but very successful.

Don't feel as if you must produce everything.

Speaking of Flurry weaponsmiths, as i am nearly master at this point (4/4/2/4), i plan on specializing in melee weapons. any flurrians know any other melee specialized WS's that i can compare my stuff to? Thanks.
