Thread: Weaponsmith ethics question from a customer
Given that you were charged 1mil for assembly even though you provided all the components; I would think he/she should have given you the remaining components back.
Normally I would let the customer know the exact required components needed to craft a custom weapon, and if they have extras, tell them that I will take the extras in trade for the crafting of the weapon and not charge any credit cost for the crafting.
In your position, I probably wouldn't bother trying to get compensation for the loss, but rather just not deal with this weaponsmith again and make sure that in the future you ask weaponsmiths how many components are needed when you want a custom weapon crafted, and if you think they're jerking you around stop in to the forum before deciding whether or not you want them to craft the weapon.

That's just beyond the pale. No serious crafter with an ounce of consideration for his clients or his reputation would pull a stunt like that.
The extra scopes should have been automatically returned, unless an explicit arrangement was made between the two of you beforehand that he would pay for the rest of the scopes, or accept them as partial payment, or as a gift/tip for a job well done.
Yes, you should always ask, and always get answers back "in writing." Looks like this particular crafter thought he could take advantage of the situation and that you wouldn't notice. He deserves to be called on it.
expose that guy for the conman he is....Really this is just scandalous
make sure everyone knows what a rip-off he is!
just fyi: those high acc scopes go for A LOT of money....I'm guessing he easily took you for a ride for 10 mil or so, seeing as he was even charging you 1 mil per assembly....
people like this should be perma-banned from any decent shop on the server
When I do custom jobs, I give the customer 2 options:
1.They can provide me with the weapon enhancements themself and I will only charge list price for the weapon and a small discount if they request 2 or more.
2. I can get the enhancements they want and the charge them for the enhancement and the normal list price of the weapon.
I'd never, in my right mind, ever consider doing such a thing as what happened to you. Always shop around, always be direct and up front with the WS about what you want, and make UTTERLY certain that you know EXACTLY what goes into that weapon. Some WS' are nice enough to be honest and tell you what is needed, but as you have seen, there are a few bad apples.
he ripped you off. This clown knew damn well the rarity of your scopes and STOLE them from you. I would report this to your main server forum and expose this guy for the crook that he is.
He definately should have let you know you needed only one scope per weapon. The guy preyed upon your innocence and (pardon my use of this word) ignorance. He'sa complete, total, greedy scum and you really should inform your server about this guys ethics. Believe me, reputation is everything when you're a crafter. Just state the truth, it's the best you can do given the situation.

I had some custom weapons made a few days ago, I provided the powercells, barrels and pre-nerf scopes for the rifles, and paid 1 mil per for assembly. The rifles turned out wonderfully, however, not being a weaponsmith, I had no idea that all the components that I dropped off were required for my rifles. I asked the weaponsmith about this today ( first time I have been able to get ahold of him) and he informed me that he was unaware I wanted my +56 and +44 accuracy scope stacks back, and had used them in other weapons.
My question is this, As a customer, and not knowing the ins and outs of the items and quantities required for crafting the weapons I have custom built, should the WS have let me know that not all the items were required? Or should I make it a point in the future to ask exactly what items I need to provide to get my weapons built?
Just wanting an opinion or two on this, as I really feel as if I was cheated.
Thanks

I have been getting custom weapons made for the last year and a half. After a crtical fail, I decided to document what I offer to vendors for custom crafting, including the serial numbers and quantities. I have gotten into the habit of doing this. My relationship with my WS is awesome, and I really do not need to bother, but habits are hard to break.
It is my understanding that in the event of a conflict, the CSRs can review crafting logs and identify items by serial number.
You should always consult this forum for advice. You can also check www.swgcraft.com for specs on crafting requirements for weapons.
Lastly, you really need to report this guy if he doesn't make good on your scopes. The scopes are worth more than the money he might pay you since they do not drop anymore.
Good luck.

I always ask my customers about any extra components like extra Krayt tissues and scopes. They usually tell me to just keep the stuff, but some people do want the items back. I will sometimes craft a weapon for free if the person pays me with worthwhile loot.
One million creditsis alot of money if you are providing all the loot components for the weapon though... I only charge 100K.
