Thread: Considering boycott of 1-use schematics...

Well since the deathwatch bunker went live the trade forums have been hopping with high priced schematics and loot

and the tells have been coming thick and fast asking can I make this or that or whatever, and then why can't I make them etc.

After getting 3 mails tonight from people wanting me to make them their 2 pistols and 1 hack, I just decided to myself "the hell with this". This game is really starting to annoy me. Since we first came into these limited use schematics, the devs have kept on making it tougher and tougher firstly to get them, and then to actually create multiple items using them. We had the themepark guns that went on to flood the servers (intentionally it is presumed), then came the stuff from the geonosian caves, which was 5 use and required limited loot parts (except the non-serial exploit messed this up) then the berserker rifle which was also 5-use but required the bottleneck stabilizing component. We also have the scythe quest but I actually like that system.

Butnow we're down to these 1 use insults. Whatever about being bale to make 2 hacks, when it comes to the pistol I get to make 1 weapon, period (I have yet to hear of multiple drops of identical barrels). So the scenario is, the uber combat toon grabs all the loot they can before an SBD kills them, then comes running to us asking us to craft it (have you got 12 points? /rolleyes) saying that they can pay us and that money is no object. They then either go away and sell it or get to use it. What do we get? We get to be automatons: a link in the chain. We don't get to keep even one use on the schematic with a chance we may be able to buy (or god forbid, loot)a barrel somewhere later. I find this an insult. I spend months gathering resources and buying skilltapes to be a cog in the machine to provide combatants with shiny new toys. In return I get money. Great. Some will come into this thread telling me to go buy the schematic and parts if it's annoying me so much, but why bother when you only get one gun at the end of it? Is it worth the millions it'll cost you to make it? The risk of a crit fail? The chance that no-one will want to buy it for what you paid for the parts?

This may sound like I'm whining, and maybe I am, but Thunderheart in his 19 questions last week was asked in relation to WS how much longer the limited use lootableschematics were going to be an integral part of the game, and gave a very vague answer which amounted to him saying that there were more to come. Wonderful. He said very little on the subject of actual quests to gain these schematics.

Surely a better system would be quests that only crafters could do, but schematics required high level mob dropped loot parts. It would solve this issue, where players like myself feel we're only here to serve the fighting classes. Don't get me wrong, I love WSing but the way it's going lately is really irksome.

This isn't a petition and I know my boycott will affect noone really: there's always someone else willing to craft it. But I would ask my fellow smiths, if you too are starting to trie of this system, to hold a similar boycott on your server. The issues this whole thing is raising needs to have attention drawn to it or the combat classes risk loosing crafters who have just decided to cancel their account or go do something more fun in the game instead.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Suggestion: When you get such e-mails, e-mail them back and say that you'll do it for (let's say they ask for a DE-10) a DE-10 schem and a barrel to go with it.

Like if I were ever to find a geo schem, I'd ask the smith to make one (with me providing all the components/loots except perhaps the uber materials which I'll never be able to find) and let them keep the rest of the schem uses (is it 5? or 2? not sure atm) and prolly some good cubes I found, provided I had some. That sound like an alright deal?

You are referring to the manufacture monkey phenomena. That turns weaponsmiths into cheap whores, and I salute your intent not to participate. Good for you. I have been asked about doing a couple of these things, and I politely say I am sorry I do not participate in loot schematic custom orders of one use. Beleive it or not you are affecting players by doing this. Remember you are not alone in refuseing this nonsense. I have talked to numerous other weaponsmiths. Many of them quite good that say they themselves do not do this. In the end you do have an impact you force fewer smiths to do more. This causes them to charge premium prices. Really jacking the player. The end result is they will start to get sick of it, and maybe the devs will take the hint. I could care less if they just make these uber weapons pure loots.

Asfor the twelve point thing. It is a rude question. Makes you feal like a slave getting his teeth examined on a block in the middle of charleston south carolina. When someone asks me this I just stop talking to them or ignore them completely.

Istin the thing is that players are actually demanding all the schematic uses for themselves. To go sell on the street or to keep. With the new schematics being one use. There is nothing left over.

Heh, I know all about POed customers, I AM a smuggler after all.

I know what you're getting at, I was just suggesting, make em go get another schem/loot for YOUR personal use, not some "measly" credits. It's generally what I do, and I rarely get turned down by acrafter (have had several loot/limited use schems made, no complaints). If the player/looterwants it that bad, they'll do it, and you'll get the pride/sale from the other schem/loot they bring you. At least it makes sense to me.

Considering they borked your prof for a whole day just about, I dunno how a boycott'll work out

Well some smiths enjoy this type of business. So I guess you would rather they just drop ultra weapons instead...of course then you would have to post that people are just getting their weapons from loot drops and not you.

As for the part about players bringing you components and we just get the schematics...I thought thats what Krayt tissue, acklay bones, and Nightsister motors were for...Hm maybe I was mistaken.

i wouldn't mine playing with it if it was for someone else's gun but of course you still wanna do a good job on it...yes 1 use are stupid and the weapons are not anywhere close to useful but its one part of the game it will keep going for a long time! Just too many things to fix in SWG!

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the limited stuff, within reason. I like making scythes, as when you do it right you get to make 4.

Even stuff like the tenloss and the sonic blaster are ok, simply because while they're limited, they are not ridiculouly so.

However the DE10, and the Hack (if not done right) are one time item. We've also seen the AV21 come along: same deal.

TBH while I don't like to see completed weapons dropping either, it's preferable to the annoyance we all get in the days preceding and directly after "content" like this makes it to live servers. It adds insult to injury that we can't even ask reasonably to have a set of the barrel and schematic handed over in payment.

And yes you are mistaken on krayt tissue, acklay bones etc.: those are optional enhancements, and not required components. The system I'm suggesting is some sort of quest which can be done only by master crafters (or possibly not yet master) which grants unlimited uses of schematics. A reasonably tough quest with a little thought behind it would be nice but not essential. The twist is that the schematic granted requires a loot drop (make this as rare or as common as you like to suit) to make and cannot be factory run at all. This gives us the opportunity to buy the components and also gives the combat people things to sell, if they don't necessarily want them for themselves. Either way, we're still required, but on our terms and not the terms of the devs,or the player whom the loot belongs to...

Is that really so much to ask?

Fantastic Idea, I would love to do some kind of weaponsmithing quest, something along the lines of the RIS quests for Armorsmith.

I'd like to see over time schematics that originally were limited use to eventually become just a part of the weaponsmith's available schematics in the datapad. The bottleneck is in the loot components anyway, I don't know why they are making the schematic a loot item when the build already requires a loot ingredient. So over time it would phase in as perhaps it becomes reverse engineered technology but still requiring that mysterious looted component.

Or even better, make it so that should a weaponsmith make enough of a given item from these limited use schematics, eventually that weaponsmith has done it so many times he/she 'learns' it for keeps. So if you make 100 DXR6b Disruptor rifles, hey presto, you now have it permanently added to your stable of data.

I feel the same way about the single use schematics.

I haven't been ordered to make any of the single use schematicweapons yet. However I have been asked numerous times to make AV-21 Landspeeder.I made one the first day the corvette went live andI feel it's not worth the effort or the resources to me to make these without some serious compensation. So I usually end up overpricing myself out of the job.

9 out of 10 times they dont have the required power unit anyway.
