Thread: Considering boycott of 1-use schematics...
/agree
Just yesterday I was approached bya Player and the following conversation ensued:
Player: "I need an uber bad*ss klay baton." (which eans he/she is 12 years old)
Me:"Do you mean an Acklay Stun Baton?"
Player:"yeah, can you make me one" (Assuming that a Master Weaponsmith may not be capable of such a huge order)
Me: "Sure, all you have to do is bring me the necessary bones and I will make it for you."
Player: "Ok (Long dramatic pause) Where do I get them"
You get the idea...the conversation went on for about 5 more minutes, including me sending the player a WP to the Geo Caves and letting them know that they should not go alone. It ended with the player telling me he/she would be back in a couple of hours with the bones. I realize that this is not about a one time schem, but it proves a point common among the non-crafting public. And that point is: most generally have no idea what they need to make anything at all.
I had my moments where I was gladly churning out Scythes for players who brought me components and schems, beacuse afterall, I could keep something from it.But I no longer even compete to vreate these one timers, regardless of whether someone brings me the parts. It leaves too many possibilities for error and of course being reported for a crit failure (something the non-crafter does not comprehend).
In short of this rambling, you are not alone...There are many of us who privately boycott this practice because we know that nothing will be done about it. At least IMO

being a unknown weaponsmith in a somewhat small guild, I seemed to have a hard time obtaining the schematics.
Quest based weapons is a good idea.
having loot items required is not.
however.... having loot items as a "bonus" to the item may work.
something alone the lines of say... in RIS, instead of needing all that funny named junk, you do the quest and get the schematic, you should be able to make as much RIS as you want, however, without the loot items, its just junk (yeah I realize RIS isn't always that good, but you get the idea)
I'm starting to get tired of these loot schematics too. I supported them at first because, frankly, the combat professions need a reason to play and we need a way to keep crafters in the loop. But with each new patch it seems the schematics have fewer and fewer uses, and the Deathwatch weapons don't even seem to be that good compared to existing weapons. Once the novelty of the DE-10 and the Hack wear off, we won't even be able to sell them for what the schematics/components cost to make them.
While I don't want looted schematics to go away entirely, I too would like to see a RIS style quest for Weaponsmiths so we can get a permanent schematic for a really nice weapon. The Devs can go ahead and make it require looted components to keep it rare, but I'd like to get some new permanent schematics for a change.

Just thinking out loud here ... but .... does the loot system change the needed template for a weaponsmith? Instead of merchant, scout, etc .... maybe what we need is master at a combat art. The reasoning is that aside from SOE toughing creatures so that mining become harder (nerf bat again? .... we'll see), perhaps what we need are small groups of weaponsmiths that can take the loot from the mob's by force and split it for themselves to resell. Isn't the real problem that the weaponsmith was cut out of the loop at least as far as marketing is concerned. If this is to be the new order of things then our old templates won't work and we need to change them.
i only make the one-use schematic for my friends and myself but if a total stranger came up to me with one i would not make it for them. I always wanted to go weaponsmith since day one of the game but i never wanted to give up the fighting aspect of the game.
however once i found out that the scythe was finally coming to the game and was in a limited schematic it pushed me to get an alt to master weaponsmith so i could make these weapons for myself so i could get more scythes for my main and make them for my friends cuz i didnt really know any weaponsmiths that i felt like i could ask them to make these weapons for me.
I love the limited 2 use schematic on the scythe. it maqkes it so i can make a scythe for my friend or other then keep the other schematic use for my main to use or sell the other.
However i hate the new schematics. I love the Hack as a weapon it is my alternate to the scythe when my brandy drops. However i hate how the schematic only allows me to make one i was expecting for it to haveat least have 2 uses to it so i could make one for myself and anouther for my friend. i spent 500k for this schematic on the first day it came live and was pissed that i only could get one from it and that i would have to spend alot of money just to get anouther schematic to get anouther made for my friend.
i hate the one use schematic i wish they could change it to 2 use so crafter and looter would be happy.
