I alternated between Firearms and technique so I could still advance on damge while getting new weapons to make it was less boring this way and I could sell a good deal of stuff

I'm at 0-2-0-4 right now, and am just now able to make something worth using and buying. From my experience, I would recommend one level in either unarmed or firearms, and then max out Techniques.

As your ability in Techniques progresses, it gives you the ability to create something that, although not at MWS quality, good enough quality (relative to aMWS)that it is still usable by a large percentage of people. And if you sell your weaponsmarkedly cheaper than what MWS are selling their slightly better weapons for, you will get enough buyers to get enough return to keep up with the grind. Then grind away on the rest.

I did this:

  1. Two firearms

  2. Two melee (to make knucklers which were in high demand)

  3. Two more firearms

  4. Four technique

  5. Two melee

  6. Four munitions (working on this now).

My logic was that people would rather buy a crappy Laser Carbine than a very nice DLT (that still isn't as good as a master one). I think that I was right. Results will obviously vary per server. My goal was to get to Master with a minimum of gridning, and I think I've done that. I've been able to sell alot of basic DLT/DH17/EE3s on the way up, enough so that I will often get 500-2000 UXP in a night. While I could grind that much xp in 10 minutes, its a definite morale boost that has helped keep me sane.

From your question I take it you're not interested in Melee (neither am I)....In that case, i suggest, Fire I, then T1, T2, T3, T4, that back to Firearm tree to finish it out. After Master Firearms, and Master Tech, finish melee and ammo tree however you wish, ie the fastest way. GL

I went 0 1 0 4 because the blaster Rifle barrels became my favorite grinding item. At least when your crafting techniques is at expert you can make some pretty good items that are worth selling.

That's the exact route I took. I'm now up to 0.2.0.4 and while I'm still primarily concentrating on Scout Blasters, they're darned good Scout Blasters. People see them and buy them. Believe it or not, I've had some people willing to pay more than what I advertise at. I was shocked by that one. I guess he was really happy with the service though.

if you want to be able to sell your stuff and NOT be labled a schwag weaponsmith that cranks out e11's worse than NPC drops then go 0-1-0-4. What you cannot afford in the game is rumors circulating that your inept and cannot make quality stuff. Non smiths dont understand the technique tree, they just assume that if you can make an e11 you can make it the same as anyone else. Therefore, you personally, are doing something moronic to screw up your guns and even when your a master you'll make crap. If you dont believe they will reach this conclusion I think you need to make your charcter searchable and add novice weaponsmith to your title so you can spend more time in tell-hell talking to them. As far as firearms2-4 I dont make nearly the amount of items as I do scouts and dl44's for the bazzar. The only real advantage I got further up the firarms tree was the advanced parts at firearms 3 to make 60-120/2.2 Scouts but those sell at 5k and not listed on the bazzar. I use standard parts for my 50-101/2.6 scouts on the bazzar. Also if you do not yet have a factory the 0-4-0-1 is UTTERLY pointless since after firearms2 your weapons start demanding identical power handlers made in a factory. So going 0-4-0-1 will have you paying 1200cr a day in maintenance to crank out weapons noone wants to buy. And don't bother to make advanced barrels at 0-4-0-1 since the only thing that differentiates them is results of spending experimentation points. Their base stats suck just as bad as standard parts without experimentation points.

The only people to benefit from 0-4-0-1 were the weaponsmiths the first 2 weeks of game play and they litterally screwed the fighters into buying total craptastic weapons at 4x their current value of good ones. The fighters jumped onboard with both hands because they assume that base stats on an advanced gun would be better than their current scouts.

Go up technique tree as fast as you can. I went that route, then started working up the firearms tree (got 3 last night). But I made a batch of scout blasters over the weekend, and they are selling like hot cakes. It is really nice to see that happen. It brings money in and you know your name is getting out there.

You have to get the Tech tree before you can sell weapons. If you dont climb to 0.1.0.0 then up to tech 4 you will probably get discouraged and drop out halfway through the grind. I mean in all honesty not many people want to be making high level guns that you cant even give away. Another piece of advice is to go with Melee, because people will buy Melee weapons. they will they will they will.

I was price-checking yesterday and I walked into somebody's store who looked like they were 0-4-0-1, and I have to say I have never seen such a large collection of badly made weapons. There were E11's, laser rifles and carbines, just about everything I can think of, and they were basically the quality of looted items, except for their full durability. I would think that this person would have a hard time convincing people to come back to their store when they have quality stuff, because the first impression would be "makes bad weapons." On the other hand, when people visit my store, I think their impression is "makes good weapons, but can't make everything."

The "can't make everything" impression is easier to solve, because you can tell the people who asked as soon as you're able to make their request. But the poor quality complaint is probably something that will take a significant amount of time to get over.

Long story short, I suggest you do techniques.

Im going 0-1-0-4

I agree that it is better to make really good scout blasters than crap E11s. The only problem it trying to /tell everyone who wants an E11 that it is worth the wait.

Only problem I have is I cant get enough steel quick enough. I think I need 60k more in steel to complete the tech tree. (im make barrels for 46 steel & 94 XP in practice mode)

I went for firearms first. Mostly because of all the people doing the /tell asking about when I could make laser weapons. Let me tell you, In retrospect, it was a mistake.

Every time I gained another level in techniques, I would have to clear out my vendor of all stock of previous tech weapons. Each level of techniqueallowed me to make weapons which were so much better than before. I was embarresed to leave the older items on my vendor. I ended up taking the stuff up to Talus and offering them on the bazaars rather than destroying them. Imagine laser rifles selling for 3k on the bazaar.
