Thread: POLL: Do you slice your weapons before listing them for sale?

This is simple fact-gathering on my part. The argument constantly runs in this forum whether or not we HAVE to slice our own stuff to make sales. I am curious to know what percentage of the community does and does not do this. If you would indulge me, please leave a yes or no reply to the following question:

Do you always have your weapons sliced before listing them onyour vendors?

Current totals (as of NoonEST,22 Feb):

YES -- 38

NO -- 26

I realize that the issue is more complex than this, and that a variety of factors are at play here. However, a simple up/down poll of how many people do this (presumably because they feel they have to) will help me better understand the scope of this issue. I am asking chiefly because I have never sold sliced weapons and I know very few smiths who do. As such, this problem could be much larger than I realize simply because I've never encountered it.

So help educate me. =)

EDIT, 15 Feb: Right now we're running about 2/3 YES to 1/3 NO... about what I expected. I figure that this will likely be the ratio when the tally is done. After some additional thought, I've amended the question a bit to better express what I'm trying to learn (most of the answers thus far have answered it for me anyway).

EDIT, 16 Feb: Good data folks, keep it coming. I'll let this run through the holiday weekend and will probably close it out early next week. I want to try and get a good feel for how the community views this issue as best I can.

EDIT, 22 Feb: I'm going to let this run a few more days, but so far we're holding the 3:2 ratio. Thanks to all who responded, this helps me get a clearer picture of where we are as a group.

EDIT, 1 Mar: Okay, going to un-sticky this now. I hope this clarifies not only for myself, but for everyone, that there is a very healthy market for smiths who both do and do not sell sliced weaponry. The ratio of sliced/unsliced looks to be about 60/40 from this very unscientific poll. For what it's worth, I think you'll see less demand for sliced weapons after the Combat Upgrade, but that is mere speculation on my part for the moment. Only time will tell. Thanks to all who contributed.

Yes... At least I did until I cancelled my smuggler account and became a crazy old hermit "weaponsmith in waiting" for the combat-do-over

Yes I slice my own stuff its almost required from what I have seen. When I didnt slice I could barely generate enough profit to keep above water. Once I did start sliceing I was able to make the profit I needed. Let me put it this way before sliceing I usually had around 30k credits a week from weapons sales. After I started to sliceing I was makeing 500k on weapons sales, and yes I am a discount seller.

The only things on my vendor over 20k are rocket launchers, or large crates of items.

Pre slice is a necessity especially if you see that most of the other shops on world are preslice. Its kind of hard to go tell a customer to buy unsliced and go find a smuggler. On sunrunner they are nigh extinct and I can see why. If I go to town to slice for people dantooine mineing coronet theed. I find that I will slice once an hour. This is with 5k slice offers. So that tells you how many sliced weapons are about.

Never have, never will. I only slice items when it's a custom order and the customer asks for it. I am really not in favour of the craft 200 to sell 1 idea that seems to be sweeping through the WS profession. If it's junk or I get a moderate or failure during experimentation, I put it on the bazaar for 6k. Might as well let someone have a semi-decent T-21 for cheap.

No. I only sell non-sliced weapons.

I do, however, have slicing 4 for my own personal (and guild) "activities".
