as you train skills your combat level increases. as your combat level increases you get crtified for certain "tiers" of weapons. this means you can be a master rifleman and use a stun baton, but just not with as much speed or accuracy as a fencer can.

Well, it particularly hurts my 9 point Expert Gunsmith. But you know, so does the separation of damage and speed experimentation: 9pt vs. 12 pt. Nobody got upset about that (except me).
I also have an 11pt Master WS, and a 10 pt Master WS just for the record, but I enjoy(ed) playing the 9 pt Expert the most (diversity).
So, yes indeed we crafters are being crapped on, but nobody gives a...care...it would seem. They may or may not lose my account, but I surely won't buy their "wookie-paradise" expansion. All I can do I guess.

ROFL your kidding me right?
We wish he was...but this is what has happened with the newest patch. They've said that certain "iconic and profession defining weapons" would retain a skillbox requirement (i.e. the T21 will still require a rifleman to use), but from the way it sounds, most weapons will be useable across professions.
Unlike most of the changes so far, I've yet to hear a single person defend this one. This is waaaaay overreacting to the problem it was meant to solve.

Helios has said (check the dev tracker) that only the level certs went in with the last patch, many of the class defining weapons would still require a skill cert, but its not on TC yet.
Realistically .. do you sell that many wooden axes (or insert other low level weapon) right now? I sell a few, but I would imagine that if someone is grinding, they buy one, and then try to sell it on the bazaar or give it to someone else who is grinding.
So instead of selling more lower level stuff ... we will be selling more higher level stuff.

i like your quote.. it really captures all that SOE is. i mean, the new players think it is all great, but after we all leave, who do they think are going ot be the next round of veterans to be made to walk the plank or take one up the arse?

I have personally had a gut feel for awhile that marketing types in SOE are calling the shots for this whole CU fiasco. It first started sinking in when SOE started to tell everyone that the CU is not to be called the CURB...in other words when it officaly went from being a combat system rebalance to pure Combat Upgrade.....that pissed me off as I suspected their change in plans are all about marketing and developement budgets and who knows what else that they dont tell us.
Nobody ever asked for an upgrade...all we wanted was a few things balanced like uber DOT wepons and Uber Armor etc...that and fixing existing bugs is all the users ever asked for. Thats why I say this stinks of marketing decisions etc to me!! But they will never admit that of course.

Take great care in how you voice your displeasure for I believe they just fired the armorsmith correspondent for voicing his opinion on the cu.

Does anyone actually have data on how these new CL requirements are laid out? It's hard for me to fight something when I've no clue what I'm talking about outside of reading Helios' post (like the rest of you).
I've mixed feelings about this. While I think I can understand what SOE is trying to do, I share Mor-Dan's concerns that it won't work and will, in fact, have a detrimental affect on us. One of our main concerns with the CU is that we have been begging SOE to make all of our schematics useful and sellable after it goes through. At first glance, this new system of certifying weapons seems to fly in the face of that (again, depending on how it actually works). That's a huge problem for me if it is indeed the case.
I'll do what I can to find out more about what Helios is talking about. This is a major departure from the way weapons have been certed in the past, and in my opinion we need to have some input into it.
