Thread: IDEA: Resorce storage Please add input.
We all know that storage is the biggest knife in the back of crafters (not counting stuff that dosent work). If you are any good at your trade your house has nothing in it because its full of resorces. Or you have a seprate home and crafting house outright. The problem with that is if you have 2 homes you use up valuble lots that help keep you on top of your game as a crafter for harvisters.
I am a master weaponsmith. For those of you that dont know a WS needs over 30 Spacific resorces to make all the items. Thats just one stack of each resorce and one type. That dosent count basic metals and copper used wen a non spacific is called for. Also most people save some of their best stuff for special projects. Rare spawning resorces (rainbow gems Still are not on Tarquinas) are horded and stockpiled. Wen a realy high quality copper iron or steel shows up i want at least 300k if its a well used resorce so i know it will last me till sompthing close or better shows up. Right now i have well over 25 types of copper alone. Adding up all my resorces i have over 100 seprate stacks. This is only going to get worse. The exact same resorce never spawns twice so you will never be able to add to a stack once the spawn. As time goes on ill just end up with more and more resorces and stacks as new better resorces show up in all areas. What this means is its hard to even have room for a chair to sit in wile crafting.
Now add componets into the mix. Some items take sevral diffrent componets expectialy architect (i was master architect in the beginning). The only good thing about componets is for the most part you can store them in your factory and only pull out a crate of each to make your scematics with. This also gets filled up as i have 2 factories and the output hoppers are around 75+ items each. But componets unlike resorces also get used up compleatly much much more often. Once you get nice stacks of resorces most people will make hot items like power handlers and such in batches of 1000 for ease of use. Componets are manageable as i see it only because of the hoppers in factories.
Its frustrating working so hard to make quality items and money wen the spoils of my success is an empty house. There are some great things you can do to decorate a home and it realy adds to the immersion and enjoyment. As a crafter i spend more time in my home than combatants and have the least appealing looking home at the same time. This is not right at all and i cant think its what the vision of swg had in mind.
Now my idea for a solution is quite simple realy. A few months ago the Devs fixed the hoppers on personal crafting stations so we could put resorces in them. I was extatic wen i read that in the patch notes....Untill i tried it out and realised that these items still count as items in your home. Whats the point of using these hoppers at all then? Its much easyer to keep your resorces orginised with a few packs on the walls. One for copper one for iron etc.rather than have them all lumped in one hopper where you have to keep searching thrue every stack of like resorce looking for the one you want to use over and over again getting that perfict scematic. You simply pick up the resorces you want to use for that item and keep trying till its just right. What i would like to see is have the hoppers on crafting stations NOT count as items in the home so i can decorate it. Let me get my small reward formy success. The way it is now all those extra rooms are pointless empty voids that my video card is rendering and your db is storing. We all know Sony has data base problems and the way the game is thats understandable. I think they are a bit tight with item storage anyway considering how many hundreds of items a player can aquire but thats another post. Can we please have our resorces wen in the storage bin in personal crafting stations NOT count as items in the home? The data base does not need to load these items untill i actualy open the hopper so if anything it would REDUCE the over all lag. Infact if this were done you could probably even lower the number of items allowed in homes outright (ill regret saying that im sure). Maby 50 items for small homes 125 for med and 200 for large. This would make a lot of people a Lot more happy and add to the over all quality of the game and immersion.
Ok true that would take more hd space on the hard drive giving us another 75 items or so but less ram on the servers would be used and processor cycles.
Ok then how bout they make a "garage" or other building that only holds crafting stations resorces and componets. Make it take one lot have no residence and can only be placed near a current residence. Or is this suppost to be some thinly discuised way of getting people to buy a second acc and make more money but destroy the concept of player interaction making people self supportive...Eventualy the only major crafters will be dual acc users. Compleatly removing the casual gammer and people who cant/wont buy a second coppy of a game that only half works from playing half the professions. As it is the casual gammer (who this game is suppost to be designed for) cant keep up with the constant shift of resorces unless they ignore the rest of the game outside of crafting (not like there is a lot of content but there will be). Before the game launched and shortly after our guild was started with the premis of crafting and exploring. Making a name for ourselvs thrue the business side. Over 80% of our 100+ pre launch members had dreams of the detaled crafting system this game offered and ability to create a life for themself. Well you can live a life but it lacks all lifestyle. Now the game has ben out for a wile and 40+ of our members have just quit for sevral reasons your all aware of...Yes some more have joined but the ones that left dident quit because rpg games were not for them or its not what they expected. They left in genral because the things they had to do they left because it was boring redundant and empty. The ones that are still here id say 70% are all combat now because crafting has way to many time sinks. Now im not saying decorating our houses is content but it does offer some fullfilment and gratification. If your a good crafter you make a lot of money...But you have nothing to spend it on AND nothing to show for it. To make matters worse a successfull combat char has the thrill of victory and the ability to show off their success with a home they can be proud of wich is like a knife in the back to the crafter that made the items they use for their success. A crafter is already gimped in combat because of this. They often need help to even place harvisters to gather resorces to work their trade.
Basicly what im saying is crafting is largely very unrewarding. You dont see the whole game because of what you do. You are outmatched constantly wen and if you try and particpate in the GCW. This is a prety small reward for so much of the game we miss out on.
Maby this would add to many new items to the game. But there are ways around this. They could have every new char start with say 4 lots. you could gane more for taking crafting professions. They would have to change the way lots work for pa halls and this would be a huge change that will never happen and has lots of holes but you can see where im comming from. Also starting with fewer lots would make it harder to get off your feet as a crafter...but in the beginning you dont even have a house you use everything you got for harvisters. Eventualy you get a house because you earned it...but...you CANT DO ANYTHING WITH IT! Thats my point...You cant even make it look cool.
Well thats basicly it. What do you think? Could a dev respond perhaps...how hard would this be to do?
Yes i know this is not exactly the right forum for this but sence the discussion is closed there is NO forum for coustomers to post genral ideas about the game at all....Why? Where should this post be?
PS yes i know i cant speel...i stoped trying years ago so if thats all your going to comment on nobody cares but you. I dont spell for a living i cut metal.

Anything over 3 days is a gamble as to whether it will be there when you check!
How do you put stuff into private crafting stations??
i believe the mouse droids can have them... might check with your favorite DE (sorry but i gave it up too long ago for the info i have to be current)... there is/was a link to a good descriptive Droid Engineer website from www.swgcraft.com

Sounds like using the vendor is too big a risk. The droids don't seem bad. 50 extra items is 1/2 the difference between a medium house and PA hall, with out a loss of lots. Does anyone know the cheapest droid that can have storage...maybe on of those little toasters on wheels ones.
At the end of it all it comes down to the fact that for elite crafters 10 lots is simply NOT ENOUGH.
Lots should start at 6-8 and increase up to perhaps 15-18 as you level up your particular field and spend SP. I have always baulked at the fact that I can't use 20% of the weapons I can make but any nov. marksman or master BH can operate a fleet ofnine BER13 with absolutely no skills needed to place them.
I like the original posters idea about a "garage" used for item storage only. Right now I use only my medium naboo, and 2 factory hoppers and store crated items on my vendor for sale at 50K a crate or whatever. It's a pain retreiving stuff but TBH I value the extra lot too much. Guildmates can be great tocall in when something nice shifts in, but it's only so many of them can be a$$ed to do the harvester thing for ya, and I see myself as having no right to infringe on their play time or enjoyment.
Database problems abound in SWG. There are simple fixes: 25 item crates should allow stacking up to maybe 100 or more. Turn down the frequency of metal/chem/gas shifts and nerf changes in wind/solar type altogether. Stop the incessant production of useless loot/quest items which clog so many inventories. All or any of these measures would provide the extra space needed to allow crafters actually have a house as opposed to a warehouse.

There are several even simpler solutions to this and one that most dedicated crafters (myself included) already use (to SoE's delight i'm sure)...
1. I have 3 houses (2 med 1 merchant)and 3 factories that the input hopper servers as home to resources as well as components in theoutput hopper(100 items for 1 lot vs 75 for a 1 lot house)... spliting crates in the output hopper was nerfed(was a REAL help btw)... so once again we have storage problems (i always seem to wind up with crates of 1-3 items somewhere that i forget to use)... unless you buy another account and use the lots on it (more money for SoE while artificially inflating the ACTUAL subscriber numbers...)
2. I maintain good relations with my non-mining friends for times when i need to mine more than my 10-12 available lots (depending on if i have the other 2 factories down or not)... at any one point i can field up to 40 harvesters if i send out the call for resources to them (hasn't happened in quite awhile)... (once agin SoE is happy cause that means people are forced into playing with others nicely...hmm that is the point of MMORG's)
thanks for the small novel. I enjoyed spending my entire lunch hour trying to read it. I would like to high jack your thread back to the single topic you posted in the subject line (lets leave out the whining about everything else in the game).
WS's and Crafters: How do you store all that stuff?
I've been MWS for about 2 weeks now, and my medium naboo is already getting tight. I'd hate to take my fishing trophes off the wall just to store a few more stacks of copper. I've found using my safety deposit box is nice place to store stuff i don't use often everday. I've also though of buying up a dozen cheap droids with storage compartments to add some capacity. I'm with Quandry in that I'm reluctant to give up another lot for more storage, and I'm personally opposed to the idea of have to buy a second account. Any have any other ideas. What about using a vendor's storeroom?

can only have 5 droids in the datapad... those are limited to10 items each (these are where i keep my components for drafting schematics)... keeping items in a vendor's storeroom is tricky AT BEST... they will be deleted after 7 days...found this one out when i went on vacation for 2 days and came back to a couple crates missing that hadn't sold on the vendor and i hadn't put back up for sale yet (could have sworn they were there for 4 days totalat the MOST)
Mouse droids can have storage up to ten. But then you have to run out side call the droid etc. Yes i used the factory hoppers a lot. My output hoppers are usualy around 75 items or so and i use 2-3 wen in heavy production. My bank is full, and going there is also a funkiller. As for the garage, I am only asking to store resorces in it...better shot at actualy getting it heh. Let me store resorces factory crates and allow it to have crafting stations...maby a chair. Using a factory just for storage is expensive matinence wise also. Vendors is your best bet for storage but again its a lot harder to orginise stuff and the stockroom is not safe. You can get yourself a vendor though and put the resorces for sale at a super high price...or what i do is have a bothian vendor and just stick a toolchest ontop of it wen im not getting stuff. You cant target it so my stuff is safe.
But all these work-arounds just further points out the problem...Crafters are not having as much fun as they could being forced to juggle items all day. To use the input hopper on a PRIVATE crafting station you need to use your crafting tools radial menue. The first option, i think its use wen hovered over will give you the option to open hopper if your the owner of the house and station. This holds 100 items, wich you couldent even fill up in a naboo 1 lot house. I dont think its to much to ask to simply have items in these hoppers not count as items in the house. Yes its more items...you could in effect have as many stacks of resorces as you want just getting another crafting station...But thats whats happening now with vendors anyway.
They built all the items and endless types of resorces. I cant believe they dident see this comming, and it was brought up in the pre launch beta. Up untill the last couple months you could store packs in packs and the items in the pack dident count in your pack just the pack....does that make sence. They fixed it and i can understand heh. There is enough down time in crafting. We all know a WS is nothing till master, how long did you grind to get there. . . Why even have a house if you cant make it look like one? Just give us a stash chest like in diablo the way it is now its the same thing only we go inside the chest. And btw, thanks for the christmas artwork that i cant display...and wont even sit on a table.
In the end i have recently decided to drop it outright allong with merchant. Ill be a doctor now, they can get by with about 30 stacks of resorces. I can fit that in my pack. Atm bank is full stash is full 2 houses (small corrilla med naboo) full 2 factories full 5 droids full and 90% of it is from being a crafter. I counted today and i have 163 stacks of resorces!! I dident even think i had that many but its because i have good resorces of all types needed and wen they show up i have seprate "specal" uber resorces for personal/guild or kryte weapons. And more comming every resorce shift.
I would love to hear a dev justify the items in the station hoppers counting as items in the house. Hard drives and ram are prety cheep now adays. We are paying for a largely broken game as is. The least they can do is let us live in the houses we get and make them look good.
- 1 lot: holds 200 units
- Only droppable by a master elite crafter (AS,WS,Arch,Tailor,DE)
- Not transferrable
- No ability to add admin access
But, it will never happen.
I also like the way the formula for lot size vs capacity works:
# lots X 75 items (unless we don't like the result, then 250.)
I wis that furniture, artwork and the like did not take up space in a house at all. The only reasons we decorate our homes at all is to add to the ambiance of the game, which it is in the Dev's best interest to encourage. As it now stands I have two homes, one of which is decorated and amd of which is absolutely empty except for resources.
How many players simply fail to decorate their homes, because their homes can't hold all their stuff plus furniture on top of that?
You get to create 5 characters for your 15 bucks per month. Use them.
Create another toon on another server and find a crafter there that has the same problem as you. Then you agree to drop a few houses for each other on the other guys server. 5 medium houses per character with 4 extra characters means you can drop down 20 houses, in addition to whatever your primary character has.
Be sure he names it for you andsets you as admin. Then be sure to make it a private residence.
