Thread: the Pain of being a new Master resources
I've been a master for about 3 or 4 weeks now, and the resources are killing me. Or rather, my lack of resources.
I know I missed out on a lot while I was grinding because I didn't pay attention to hard caps on stats.
So, I start waiting for spawns.
I think I've managed a Mythra and Diatium Copper since then. All of my other resources are what I've had since I started grinding - got some great Duralloy Steels and Kammris Irons
I've got some semi-decent Desh and Platnite, and a few k of ditanium steel.
Basically, all I can make that are sellable are VKs, PHs and 2-handed curved swords.
Ranged weapons are completely out of the question, as I can't make any of the advanced components, so I would be wasting the good resources I have on mediocre products.
I always whooped for joy yesterday, when I saw a spawn of Green Diamond had finally emerged.
Until I sampled it.
98 OQ
I've got my 30k of resources deed that I could use, but I have no idea what it would be good to use yet, since I have no real indication of what my top sellers could be.
How did the rest of you cope with waiting for resources?
I'm just going to have to wait until these spawns appear :/
But now you shouldn't worry much about resources as the rare resource spawns have been increased. We just had the second best Titanium Aluminium spawn on Farstar ever and there are again 2 new spawns of Titanium Alu, although not as good. Theres also a great Ostrine Carbonate Ore in shift that i have long waited for.
Waiting for spawns can be a major pain. I think it was a full three months after I mastered before I saw a spawn of Class 3 Solid.
My advice is hit every resource vendor you can around the galaxy, buy any small stacks you can find for a good price and start experimenting. That way when the resources do hit at least you'll be familiar with them.
Aside from that, start a Melee WS business. Specializing can get you a lot of very dedicated customers, especially if they see you're becoming knowledgable about your craft. At this point you can easily make VK's, Power Hammers and Two Handed Curved Swords, you said. Which means gaffis and one handed curved swords should also be things you can easily manage. Get a WS to sell you some byrothsis gem and you're fairly set for stun batons. You could try to make some polearms, but its a niche market anyway. I wouldnt drive yourself crazy with it.
Do that and spend the intervening time from now till you have all the resources you need to learn your guns. The you can learn them all again for the CURB. ![]()
Best of luck out there!
Apart from Stun Batons, which do Fencer's use?
As for buying resources?
I'm down to 500k credits - had 3 million when I started. I mine 95% of my own resources.
Only ones I've bought have been a couple of stacks of reasonable desh copper - I can make 145 damage VKs
I have got a few nice loot parts, but I'm scared to 'waste' them on the lower resources - half-dozen 24 damage nym's motors for instance.
And around 5000 base yellow cubes (20 at 18 or 19 max damage), and a few dozen base reagents.
Oh, and How could I forget the real problem... figuring out a pricing scheme.

yeah, I can make the Gaffi sticks and 1-handed curved swords, problem is there's not as large a market for them that I've seen.

There is an all too common misconception that anyone can grind WS and make money right away. It takes much more than credits to buy your grinding stuff, and 3mil really is chump change when it comes to starting a WS business. Your best bet is to create a niche market and stick with stuff you can make WELL, Kammris Iron as you have probably seen usually spawns in high SR which makes great gaffis, just need to find some decent UT Ditanium Steel. Expect to wait 6 months or more to fill out your resource inventory unless you are already independently wealthy from another profession and can buy up materials. Borrow as many lots as you can and watch SWGCRAFT.com and hop on new resources fast, mine more than you need as you can probably trade a WS later on for something else, not everyone catches everything. One fusion and several BER10 harvs go a long way.
No, I don't expect to make money over night (I think I got spoiled by trying out DE just as JTL came out, and made 2 mil in about 2 weeks), just specifying I can't really afford to buy a good amount of resources from vendors.
My ditanium is at 790 UT, so not too far from the cap - I've made 39 damage reinforcement cores with it
My dolovite is 820 - can't remember what I got that to.
I check for new resources each day after work - using My little table to see if I need the resource and if its stats are good enough
I'm currently waiting on the resources I need so I can make some power conditioners and then stun batons
Might see if I have the resources for some pikes/lances when I get home

Just noticed the Plumbum spawn is really nice. Not fantastic, but definitely enough to get me started, once I get the other resources

Smo-key was also a known exploiter, though
