Thread: Logix: Question please...are loot drop schematics the future of smithing?

I started smithing the first week of my server going live. I read the boards daily, but in general try to keep my opinions to myself...some generally says it better than I can at any rate.

My primary concern now though is this...

Sure these new weapons look nifty, heck yes I want to make some. But is this the future of how weaponsmithing is going to be? Are all new items going to be loot dropped? To me this goes against the grain of why I became a crafter to begin with, I do not want to farm spawns, nor do I want to pay extremely high prices to people who do farm spawns to keep my vendors stocked.

Are we going to see new schematics in our datapad? Or is every new item in the game from here on out going to be subject to camping to obtain it?

-edit-

I guess my point is that I became a crafter to craft, not to be the final assembly guy in joe cool combat guy's uber parts. I wish they would have made uber loot drop powerups and left the weaposn themselves alone...let the combat peeps get great stuff to make themeslves stronger in combat and quit dicking with smithing. They could have done that and kept the krayt tissue....feeder mecs...and the rest of it....I just want to build guns like the good old days.

/agree

Loot drops are cool to intro the weapon.. but i think at some point it should become a perm schem, or cease to exist.

Then simply put DONT.......the only thing that creats "extremely" high prices, is people paying that much creating an economy based on said prices,,,,,,,, if you dont pay,,,,,,, they cant sell........ if you want to change the argument that you cant compete with those smiths who WILL buy at over-prices upping the market prices ......

then simply put.......welcome to capitalism

(a more vaild debate question would be about the poor resource shifts going months without a sign of certain resources let alone crap ones.... this puts new smiths in a timesink to "sit around and wait" just to get on par.)

More valid? Resource wait periods which everyone has to endure is hardly more vaild than basically changing the mechanic of smithing from the way it has operated since launch. Obviously you don't get my point...we are crafters, not assemblers. If you can't see what kind of problem all this loot dropped schematic and components are going to be not just now, but on down the road as more items come into the game then you need to take the blinders off. Resources are fair...wait long enough something better will come along. The loot drops seperates things right down the middle...either you have the connections to farm, or the cash to buy, or you are SOL. Think new smiths have it hard waiting to get new resoruces? How hard are they gonna have it when every popular item has to be farmed or bought beforethey can craft it?

Oddly enough, you can make a schematic out of a schematic. Right now, I'm trying to pursue an answer as to whether or not this is intended (I would not recommend doing this until it has been cleared as perfectly legit), because it would effectively mean you could mass-produce these "enhanced" weapons from schematics. Which would be nice, meaning we could provide these weapons for sale ourselves, as opposed to Joebob bugging us to make three guns from his schematic.

If they want to say this is not acceptable, they had better be quick. I have been making these guns in factory quantiites since day 1 of live.

Logix was talking bout the new looted schematics from the themeparks... The featherweight fwg5, enhanced E11, the new RB... These will be fairly common weapons due to the fact that everyone can do the themeparks... Not to mention the uber components that these themeparks themselves provide...

But yes... We do it everyday... Make schematics from schematics... We have the baseline schematic we modify to the best of our ability and resources(otherwise known as experimentation)... From that prototype we can either build a new LIMITED schematic (such as those used to make parts for those OTHER schematics requiring factory ident parts) to be used in the factory or a finished piece... Logix... what you are doing is saying the very prinicple of crafting and using factories is in POSSIBLE violation...I know it is a bit of a stretch on what you said but in essence its the same thing...

As far as mass producing these weapons they should have made the schematics require looted components if they wished to keep the numbers down... I know for most weaponsmiths on most serversit'sa race to see who can produce them the fastest...

It is my belief that given the time and luck it would be possible to make factory runs of even the high end looted schematics (Nightsister Lance)... What basically you are telling me is that if someone came to me with 10 identical NS vibro motors and the Schematic I'm not SUPPOSED tomake 4 identical lances but only make 3 lances and have 2 motors left to either of our whims???

Everyone and their brother has brought me these new schematics in the last few days...what am i supposed to do? Tell themI can't make them their requestedweapons due to SOE wavering over the fine points of the schematics? What that will do is loose me my customer base... And i'm no where near the most prolific smith on my server... I look at it this way... I've got three chances to make the weapon with each schematic...Very rarely, evenin a research center; does the first shot on a weapon come out perfect... I'm going to make the best of it that i can...

i agree i dont like the idea of limited use lootable schematic as the only ay to get new guns to make. althogh i am having a blast with the new ones luckily i have great customers who bought the schematics to me and let me keep 1 for myself

I hate to say it, but we asked for it. Careful what you wish for, I suppose.

But yeah, I don't really know right now. I don't want to be a smith like this, either, none of us do. Combatants want loot, crafters want our economy not ruined by loot and crafters also want new stuff. So this is what we end with as our compromise.

Oddly enough, you can make a schematic out of a schematic. Bear in mind, we still have this famed "Weapon Balance" publish coming up in 2006 or whatever. I really do think we will see new guns for ourselves and not obtained through Vader, just a matter of time.

No, I'm not. I'm saying turning a small amount of something into a very big amount of something is in possible violation.

This is different when we're talking about schematics created with limited uses. One has to think, if I was intended to make3000 Enhanced E11 Carbines, why couldn't I loot a schematic with3000 uses instead of only three?

This scenario is more akin to the no-serial Krayt tissue. While the game did not prevent you from making a +30 Krayt Tissue into a +60 Krayt Tissue, it was still considered a violation. You're taking something small and turning it into something bigger when you probably shouldn't be doing so. Simply because the developers did not have the foresight to retroactively remove these no-serial tissues does not mean they wanted you to be able to do this. And, simply because the developers left the ability to make a schematic out of a looted schematic does not mean it was intended, either.

So, I wouldn't be so quick to get your hopes up, as we could be expecting a nerf thrown at these schematics any time.

You have been making Featherweight FWG5s since release day?

Been making factory runs of these and the new E11 since the day they were released. Didnt mean to imply since Jul 2003.

I see no exploit here, even when taking into account what the devs "meant". Every other schematic is used in the exact same way.I fully expected no option to make a factory schematic after experimentation, but it WAS there, so I pressed it. Maybe they'll nerf it... /pshrug

Logix speak up. Are they nerfing this as well? Just like Fwg5 you wont be able to get them off the crates? Speak up b4 more damage is done, talk to the devs and ask for a straight answer. We want answers. I already got screwed with lots of prenerf guns like lots of other smiths not sure i can take 2 in a row.
