Thread: Does a noob stand a chance in the WS profession?

Given that long standing WS (among other professions) have stockpiles of resources, and enough credits to buy what they dont have, is it possible for a noob to be a successful weaponsmith? Also, becoming a 12pt WS is a distant dream for a noob, and everything I've read leads me to believe that you can't be a good WS without being a 12pt.

I'm not complaining, I know the current weaponsmiths have worked hard to get where they are, but it seems to be a critical flaw that a noob can't simply start playing, and have a real sporting chance (Gives the feeling, why bother?). I guess what I'm saying is, competition seems to be way too stiff for the new guy.

Any thoughts? Opinions? Clarifications? Advice?

what i would do is play a combat profession for awhile and build up resources, make contacts, then after a time of being a combat player you would have a bit of money to start crafting, its what i did, and im a successful 12pt weapsmith..

what he said.

Having better reasources will still be of use since hitting the caps without a slice means not getting discovered on factional scans.

might be of use if they tweak taht. Then all imps can just buy 1k weapons and slice em.

And the better resources will allow you to create a weapon with higher condition. I'm not sure that will mean much.

No, a noob cannot survive. So the goal is, DON'T BE A NOOB. Get out of noobland as fast as you can. Grind missions, harvest high end resources, craft swoops and powerups at rock bottom prices untill you have the resources and money you need. If you loose the "I'm a noob" mentality, you will be able to go quite far. If, on the other hand, you decide that you are at a disadvantage, you truely are.

Thanks for the advice guys, good stuff. As far as being a noob, I'm not a noob by choice, nor do I have a noob mentality, but it's a fact. Being a new WS makes me a noob no matter how you slice it,it's an inherent disadvantange for anyone, but it is surmountable, as I am learning.I have a combat profession, and I'm not a noob to SWG, just to weaponsmith.

As for resources, I was given a lot of high quality WS resources by an EX-Weaponsmith, and I am currently mining some JTL copper with SR 900+. I guess I just need to be patient, and wait for the right moment to make my break to start my vendor.

Thanks again guys!

Well what i did was look for some also new WS or Artisans to pool funds, resources, lots or whatever, then after that make some weapons put em up..you'll get money from it eventually. Also, it's easiest to start with melee weapons than it is to start with ranged weapons.

12 points are not mandatory to make useable weaponry. What you get from 12 points is a little higher condition and better range mods. Just price accordingly.
What you really _need_ is the same class of resources the 12 pointers on your server use - without those you dont have a chance. So as somebody else already posted, pick up a combat prof for a little while to keep your account balance in good standing while mining / buying good resource spawns.
