Thread: Naming protocol

I've taken to naming my weapons according to this formula: Name min-max @ spd by me, e.g:

DL44 Pistol 24-128 @ 2.1 by Aethal

I've seen many WSs use similar systems, but I was wondering if this was giving enough information to the purchaser - am I leaving anything vital out? I never make any mention of stocks or scopes in my descriptions, for instance - is this wise?

[Actually, as I focus on low-level weapons it's quite easy for me... my standard weapons are the DL44, the DLT20 and the DH17... if I stock and/or scope any of them, I'll made a DL44 Metal, DLT20a or snub-nosed DH17 instead - gives my stock list a little more meaningful variety and makes people happier about paying more for the slightly better model.]

Aethal Sar, Weaponsmith. Retired from game - probably missing it already!

I only include the max damage, and I have been omiting my name for about 5 months now.

My T21's for example are T21-407 "Striker Evolution XII" T21 Rifle

The Roman Numerals increase for every batch I make. The Evolution series started when I brok 400max damage finally, it used to be just Striker.

Krayt T21's are "Striker Elite Evolution"

Some weapons I am silly with, I had a batch of flamethrowers I named "Spaceballs... The Flamethrower"

I use basically the same method. [normal item name] [xx-xx @ x.x] [little blurb if enhanced] (Teh'ikTech)

Typically i use the following example:

Laser Carbine 41-278 @3.4 28/44/22 [AP2]

That way people can see damage, speed and HAM Costs on a quick glance. Plus it gives people a good idea on the type of slices they may have gotten.

If I make a weapon with loot parts like Krayt Tissue, or Gorax bones then i'll do the following:

Krayt Laser Carbine 41-348 @ 3.0 28/44/22 [AP2]

I list all mine as (as appropriate):

Laser Carbine (min-max, x.xspd)

They don't need my name in the title, if they want to know, it's listed in the weapon info.

Again, most people don't seem to care about HAM or Ideal Range mod, so I don't include it in the title. Why waste space duplicating into that the vast majority of the player-base don't care about? Those who do care, know where to look.

If I use Krayt tissue, or whatever, I mark it as such:

Laser Carbine, Krayt(min-max, x.xspd)

That way, my Krayt Laser Carbine appears right beside my normal Laser Carbines, and people can easily compare stats.

Using T21 as an example...

K3 T21 - 7.5|174-403

K3 Krayt T21 - 7.5|174-403

So it's

K3 [default weapon name] - [speed]|[min-max]

I use what appears to be pretty much the standard formula but I do add a little tag for any extra experimentation to stats other than damage/speed and for extras like scopes or stocks. Iuse a simple +acc, +dur, -HAM, and adv for advanced parts. People seem to like like it even though it can make the name a bit long.

Getting loud for the silent majority.

[guild] Description spd / min-max by [name]

sometimes I add a little info (for me) so I know what im selling

KDS DXR6-B Rifle 5.6 / 190-380 (YC) by Stanis

(for Yellow Cubes.. I've also done KGC for Krayt, Green Cubes)

I'd say that it's very important to brand with both guild and your name. Offer something at a good price and those products can be anonymously resold. You might as well let the owner know where they got it from and who made it. Probably helps when its close to destroyed and they need to get a new one.

For custom orders I try to ask what the recipient would like it called.

My naming system is pretty close to yours,

WAC weapon min/max damage speed.

WAC being the abbreviation for my company, which I like using because it's nice and short and doesn't clutter the rest of the line

< who made it. >

It already says that, in "Created by".

I get business this way anyway, without my name in the title.

I use

Default Name X-Force vX.XX by Stettin
I like having my name in the title even though there is a creator tag, this in part came from running weapons in my slicer's factory and his name (Lonelan) showing up on the creator tag. I keep my name in there out of habbit now.

Early on I did state the stats in the name, but found that caused confusion because when I started slicing everything people would look at the stats in the name, not in the stat window.

I use "Weapon Name {VP} xxx-xxx, x.x". The {VP} is simply for branding, so someone can differentiate my weapon from a different smiths at a glance.I deliberate try to keep a low profile, so I didn't want to put my name on the weapon. It works as a kind of weeding-out process, as it's generally the smarter customers who figure out to look in the Item Creator field.

It may say the name of the crafter in the Created by area, but I've run into a few people that somehow never saw that line. Better to play it safe
