Took half a year for me to harvest all the best resources myself. I started in nov 2003 (about 5 months after launch)
Heres a look at my non-ferrous ONLY resources (steels, and irons are in a separate house, as are all the non-metals i have gathered)

a) Ive lost track of how long ive been a weaponsmith, atleast a year andI have always been 10pt. In my opinion and experience its only the serious pvp players that will get a benefit from 12pt rather than 10.
Although if you want to make millions and gather a huge customer base then 12pt will be an advantage and may help attract customers.
b) Im a weaponsmith because I enjoy making the weapons and supplying my friends, the business side of it has never really concerned me but recently I decided to open a shop. I setup a shop in my town on Dantooine nearly 5k from the nearest starport, I made more than enough to cover my costs and make enough profit to keep me happy.
The best way to get started is to gather a small group of loyal customers, start with friends and guildmates.
Offer discounts for regular customers or in exchange for useful loot
Setup a shop somewhere accessible but a nice distance from any competition and let your business grow from there.
There is one thing you should remember when reading that, alot of weaponsmiths can make millions of credits a day while its rare for me to make more than 100k a day but for me this isnt a problem, I enjoy what I do and dont need alot of money.
If you do want to make alot of money then hopefully some of our more profitable weaponsmiths can offer adivce and opinions

bigtime or smalltime. if you want the best weapons, you'll need the best resources. Now every column in that screenshot is a different resource. more than often its every two columns because i have so much of each.

/runs off into the night like an Enron executive
But in all seriousness, it's the resources, not the experimentation points. Many, many of the 12 point smiths on Ahazi have sub-par damage stats due to (I can only assume) focusing on getting 12 points more than getting the best resources.

Yeah, for damage, it's all resource stat, since you can max out the damage field with 10 points.
Oh btw, HAX!!!!

Weaponsmith is nothing more than a glorified Resourse Collector. And remember,a weapon is'nt finished till its sliced and powered up.

You're on Gorath huh? Then my suggestion is NOT to go Weaponsmith... I don't need anymore competition.
Just kidding... lmao.
Seriously though...
I am not a 12 pointer and I make good guns. Sure I would like to be a 12 pt. smith, and I buy CA's when I find them reasonably priced but I refuse to spend 20 mil on a 12 pt. suit (even IF I did have 20 mil., which I don't).
So my suggestion is if you are going to jump in to the game be prepared to have a fleet of harvestors and spend alot of time on swgcraft.com or using Jenners tool. This profession is not for the impulsive... it takes a ton of time to gather resources. If you do not gather your own then you will make NO money because buying them for 6-20 cpu on the bazaar will bankrupt you. Don't bother using crappy resources, or, if you do, do not mark your weapons with your name when you sell them on the bazaar.
I do quite well being a Master Merchant and having a vendor tent set up in a good location (just outside the Rebel Outpost on Rori), but I also stock many other items besides weapons. If you do not want to go the Merchant route then find yourself a mall in a good location that does not have a WS yet.
Join a guild that does not have a WS and be the resource for the guild. Custom orders are fun and it's nice to help out your fellow guildies and keep them stocked up on the latest and greatest.
WS might get really fun in the near future with the Combat revamp. I am hoarding resources awaiting new items to craft. Hopefully this will be a worthwhile update for us crafters.

Atm I am doc/merchant, thinking to go for ws/merchant....I've been gathering doc ressources long now, but I never used the doc as crafter and bizzwoman. I'll give it a try now, and see how it works. Atm Doc's mail bizz are buffpacks which I despise to craft, because 100-200cpu for meat is, honestly, utopistic.

Howdy folks,
I'm thinking to go for WS...but there are a few questions left...
I'm playing on gorath, and want to know:
a) Is a 12 pt WS a MUST HAVE? Well, I've seen a bunch 10 pts one, with awesome weapons tho....
b) How hard/easy is it nowadays for a beginning WS to etablish his/her bussines?
