Thread: Finally Started Weaponsmith ... well well well ... is it supposed to be like this ?

I finally created a rodian girl (cute !) character and started to work on WS, first of all, I'm not a grinder, and probably won't be, so I don't care of people who mastered it it one day double clicking on a macro, good for you guyz!

well, so I started to buy 15 rated crafting tools, I already got 44.5 rated station and WS toolkit bandolier, trying to start on the best basis.
I got myself some ressources from bazaar (no need to use best "uber" ressources from the beginning I guess) and started to try to figure out how the weapon's craft is working.
so I made a bunch of D18 pistols, using optionnal scopes. I made some weapon upgrade kits as well, as my alt is now master smuggler and I heard about usage xp.

what I'm doing:
I'm not using my own station now, and standing next to the coronet's station, crafting scoped D18/WUKs and advertising that I give free D18, Metal Staffs, and Swords to noobies, I give free weapon upgrade kits to smugglers, and that I put'd 100cr Sliced/scoped weapons on the bazaar for beginners.

k first, am I doing all right ?

second: Do I get usage xp if I'm offline ?

third: does it worth to count on factory xp to level up ? and Am I getting usage xp for factory made weapon upgrade kits ? I mean if I get alot of ressources, I could run like 4 or 5 factories of WUKs, it will help my smuggler character, and give me xp right ? if I remember, I get like 90 xp for one WUK, so I'll get like 9 xp for one factory crafted. so this makes me gain 9k xp for a 1000 pieces factory run, it doesn't sound that bad for me, so good idea or bad idea ?

(I just saw I wouldn't get usage xp for factory made items)

so what I wanted to do, was learning the system while leveling, I started by crafting what I could and trying to figure out what does what in a weapon, so at novice 0000 I think I can say I understood quite well, at least on stuff I could do until now.

here's my point:
I crafted like for 4 or 5 hours (not non stop but almost), and got like 15k xp so far, still need like 20k more to get to the next fire arms box, and I learn everything I could from the barrels and stuff, and I really don't feel like double clicking for hours. so is the factory run idea a viable idea to help me keep the faith and hope that I'll be master someday ?

how did yall, non grinder WS, do ?

I'm not sure if you even get xp from factories anymore. Last I knew, you got 10% of the xp from being made in a factory. Pretty much the only way you are gonna get to master is to grind it out by hand.

If you know the basics of how crafting works, like material qualities and such. You can pretty much apply that knowledge to all crafting. Pretty much your experimentation points will always go into damage, until you can't raise it anymore.. then from there into HAM costs. The nuances come when doing things like scopes and stocks and subcomponents. It's not really all that complicated.

If you aren't in a hurry to master.. I'd say work on collecting all your materials and resources.. and crafting when you want.. or have time to. It can take you literally months to just get all the resources you need. Unless you plan on buying all the old out of date resources, which can cost you a pretty penny.

User xp is worthless. At max you will get exactly what you got when you made it, and that could take months to add up to anything. Bravo on takeing your time to learn up. There is an easier way to do it though.

Follow the exgrinders guide to master weaponsmith in a day. It takes six hours or so to master, and no you do not need to macro can go at your own pace. All you need do is get to munitions 2 and have skeevon gas thoranium steel hydron 3 inert gas radioactive and generic steel. If you are takeing you time collect up these resources. Then when you get all you need just craft away at say an hour at a time.

Second makeing lowend components will not really train you that well. Since good weapons need highend components. This is what you have to learn whats a good stat for say rhodium steel or corellian deciduous wood.

Third if you are looking for max user xp grenades are the way to go. Everyone can use a c12 and since you have five uses to it. You will get all the user xp in what an hour. That is basically like crafting an item that gives you double the xp it should.

I wasn't a grinder either until I decided I really wanted to play a Weaponsmith...

That sounds familiar. There was no way I was going to sit and grind, grind, grind my way to carpel tunnel syndrome. But, you have to grind if you actually want to be a weaponsmith. You are already grinding, it sounds like, since you said you spent 4 to 5 hours of crafting. If you are going to spend that time anyway, bite the bullet, get your steel, and write your macro. Though now the resources for heavy warheads are easier to come by than they were last September, so you may want to go that route. As far as I know, you just can't count on user XP.

That said, ZetaLancer seems to have a good idea here.

1 question about the reasources for munitions 2 (the skeevon gas thoranium steel hydron 3 inert gas). Is that stuff hard to come by? Is it possible that some of it might not be on my server at the moment?

most definately its easier to get thoranium skeevon and hydron three. Not only do they seem to spawn more often, but capitalists have caught on. Just post that you want to hologrind weaponsmith on your galaxy forum and say your doing heavies. Then say you are looking to buy the materials. Guaranteed within a day you will have five or six mails offering to sell you the resources. They are usually more expensive but its getting cheaper all the time.

I'll admit I grinded it out, and wish I had done it differently. I already know the ins and outs of crafting because I went to Master doc the old, slow way, and I didn't want to go through that again.

So now I find myself being a three week old Master Weaponsmith, and all I've been able to make so far are advanced sword cores and made my first advanced blaster handler yesterday.

So my advice, go slow, collect the resources first, no fun being a master crafter if you don't have the materials to make anything.

I suggest going up the weapon crafting techniques tree first (0/0/0/x). This allows you to maximize your experimentation points and you can make better weapons from the get go.

well, I got two boxes, firearms 1 and techniques 1, with more exp points I'll figure out how the system works (at least I'll try)
