Hi all,

I finally made it to novice weponsmith, woohoo!!!

and then a found that i needed tons of xp just to make it up a lvl!!

Just wondering if any of you had some good resource tips for making the d18 pistol and also the dlt20 rifle + components?

I made a d18 with max dmg of 54. Not too bad, how much would that sell for?

Any help welcome.

thnx

i dont mean to burst your bubble here, but to be honest, until you reach master the weapons that you can make are basically worthless. customers only want the best weapons and unless you find a newb who doesnt know better or someone who is desperate for a weapon cause they broke the one they had...you wont sell it. best advice is simply to craft components in practice mode and grind out xp til you are master...then worry about making completed weapons to sell.

hope this helps

Yeah, pretty much what the other guy said unfortunatly, there really isn't a market for low end guns (i think my D-18 max out around 135 or so if i use the best stuff i have). on a side note tho, just because you can't craft god weapons dosn't mean you should't start the reasource hunt now, so start looking for high OQ+cond copper, steel ect, you can probably find a complete list of everythin you need on the forums too, so start looking, and good luck.

It's always good to see someone with an actual interest in weaponsmithing, as opposed to the wave of hologrinders we've had to endure lately. That said, there are some realities to playing a weaponsmith in this game that do need to be observed.

As was noted, it's almost impossible for a non-master to be competitive in producing most ranged and melee weapons. Non-masters simply don't have the experimentation points, and while SOE might have wished for a more gradual market assimilation (novice weaponsmiths selling lower-end weapons, etc.) it just doesn't work that way.

Where non-masters can be quite profitable, though, is in allied areas. Resources have always been the best equalizer, and for a serious weaponsmith there is no more useful skill than in getting to know resources extensively. Study the spawns, keep a log if your server doesn't have a collective site (Tempest has http://enactive.org/swg , and http://www.swgcraft.com is fairly good for most servers but not always updated) and keep an eye on good resources. There are two good things that come out of this: first, it's never too early to begin building up your inventory of good resources, which in spite of looted components and skill tapes still separates the real weaponsmiths from the pretenders. Secondly, good resources sell very well, and there is no better way to finance the grind than by dealing in good resources.

Another area newer weaponsmiths can compete is by producing munitions: many master weaponsmiths don't have the time to make them consistently, and stats can vary a little more with them without affecting marketability. The success of this approach will depend on the deman for munitions on your server, and the number of other sources for them.

Hang in there, and before long you have both the experimentation points and the good resources to compete across the board. Good luck and have fun!

As a new weaponsmith your market is limited to newbies with limited funds. Your weapons are far from useless to these people. I have sold hundreds of weapons so far and I have only 5 experimentation points. Price your weapons reasonably and the new players will buy all that you can make. I don't use the best resources right now, just halfway decent ones. Throw some weapons on the bazaar and see what people are buying. DH17s and Two-Handed Axes sell the best for me.

You are going to need about 500K steel to grind weaponsmith. Buying this much steel is really not a good plan unless you have 1-2 million credits burning a hole in your pocket. I have been using resource collectors to mine my own steel. My plans were delayed for one week by an usually good run of high quality steel (too nice for grinding). Last night I put 4 medium mining units (BER 10) on a rich crap steel deposit. My grinding resumes tonight.

thanks for the replies. I had already realised that my weapons wouldn't be as good as a MW, i just want to learn the profession properly. This way when i do eventually make MW then i'll have a good knowledge of the types of resources that make good weapons.

I will price them according to the newbie player market, at the end of the day my d18 pistol is better than a cdef and looks cooler!!! I'll see how it goes, for now tho my money will be made by selling resources and doing normal combat missions!

Hopefully the grind won't be too long but at least i'll have a good understanding of my profession.

Any other help is welcome.

Watch the prices in the planet-wide and Galaxy-wide bazaar, compare the stats, and visit some veteranMaster WS vendors and get a feel for their prices for their quality weapons. Adjust your prices accordingly. I found that DL44's and DLT20a'susually sold pretty well in the Mos Eisley bazaar, even low quality ones. I also found that levelling Technique early helps with making saleable weapons (and hence some money to helpfeed those harvesters)while you're grinding.

Good luck!

If you can find people grinding Smuggler that need weapons to slice, you can do that. You can also master artisan and make weapons for Newbies. Give/sell very cheaply...the weapons to them, place your shop in an area nearby Mos Eisley or another area on Tat. Try and grab the newbies now, cause when you hit Master...they will be higher up with more skills and will have a demand for weapons of high quality.

Also, read the stickie up here on developing a customer base. I have been a Master for well over a year now. Have quite a friends list...comments are all gone now from those darned friends list bugs, but I stil send out an email to announce shop locations and sales.

My other character is a Weaponsmith 0404 right now. I can make decent low end weaponry due to getting all my Exp.Pts just short of Master. The lack of cash/resources keeps me from making fancier gear right now. After I hit xxx4, I continued my grind but took breaks by actually crafting some low-end weaponry. Since I took up Firearms, my best sellers right now are DL44 Pistols, DH17 Carbines, DLT20 & DLT20a Rifles. My Tusken Rifles which I started making today sold pretty quick if I put in Stocks and Scopes (high HAMs, slow, but I maxed everything I could for accuracy and especially damage).

I know my weapons can't compete with the Master, high quality stuff, so I gear my pricing towards the new players and their limited funds. I make just barely enough profits to feed the harvesters and go resource hunting. To earn extra cash for big spending I have to take my sorry butt out for some regular combat missions (Artisan missions lack any real rewards). Until I get the coveted Master Weaponsmith title, I'm eking out my existence this way nearby 'Eisley!

Again thanks for the replies, they've all been really helpful! I will have a look at that guide, its always good to start off a customer base early, especially with newbies! Hopefully I can report back sometime with success!

I found a useful crafting tool on swgcraft.com, abit complex but tells me the shift patterns of the resources on my server. A very valuable tool!!!

Just out of interest how much /tell spam do you guys get? (consdering your MW's) I've already had ppl asking me if i can build a certain weapon for them!! Already getting annoying, thinking about not displaying my sign until i reach a good enough level.

All I have to say is you rock man.

I have been very bored on this game many times, and everytime I get bored I just create a new character on a new server. Being a n00b again is kinda fun and challenging, I always love interminling with the newer players also. We get a group of 3-4 guys and go kill kaadu, I love seeing the newbi weaponsmiths and the stuff they make. Anyways what I am getting at is that you as a novice weaponsmith have a very important role. Bazaar's are your best bet, Mos Eisly, Theed, and Coronet are the best places to put your stuff. Start making your weapons and selling them at a cheap price. If you happen to have a friend that is going smuggler have him slice them and put them ona vendor. Keep it up bro your doing great

thnx dude!!

I do actually have a guy in my PA thats a smuggler, its a very good idea! Maybe i'll put my normal stuff on the bazaar aiming at the newbie market and then advertise my sliced stuff thats on my vendor. Hopefully this will provide me with a customer base and also gather the xp.

I just like to say a huge thanks to the weaponsmith community, its very rare that Master's actually help newbie's to a profession as much as you guys have!
