Thread: Weapon Repair Woes. Or How to piss off a customer.
Its going to be a while before weaponsmiths do enough repairing under the new rules to see any paterns.
I know that because of the chance to destroy weapons (even the ones I made), I never liked to repair weapons. It seems like a loose loose situation for me.
I hate repairing weapons so much that I sell weapon repair kits (98% effectiveness) for 100cr each. I do not repair weapons, even the ones I built, because I will not take responsibility if it falls to peices -- not until I see sworn results of tests performed after this patch... and certainly not before it.
I'll sell the kits for cost, you can take them and have someone else do the repairing, or just do it yourself.
Hello,
I am one of the unlucky costomer base, I had given to me a 91% weapon repair tool.
I thought that - ok I let my weapon go awhile before repair 237/975, so I may get a "poof".
I used the tool and ... yep ... "pooof" , ok , scratch the 28kDX2 and my bad for letting it go for so long.
Ok, head home 4K credit ports and shuttles, run home and pull out an old spare 14K Scout Blaster at 623/735. hmmm, I think ....... nah this wont happen again, I gotta get better results and maybe the new total won't go below 500/500.
Used the Tool and ... grrrr, "pooof".
does the % of the tool make a difference???????????????
After seeing your guys posts it looks like it's another Borked system.
Since I gave up Master Artisan to explore Scouting/Medic this bites. hehehehehe, looks like SOE is making sure people need new weapons on a regular basis.
Nikkoli
p.s.- not raggin' on ya, it's not your fault. I be poopy as I am now weaponless. hehehehehe.
Happy Crafting
I read the patch notes and had been waiting to repair a few guns until my Master Weaponsmith abilities would help my repairing. I repair 3 weapons....a Krayt FWG5 (My Main Gun), DX2 and a Nice Scout blaster. They were all at about 50% dmg. I get 2 "You moderately repair this weapon...weapons durability has been reduced" or something to that effect...dropped them both to around 500/500
The other I Successfully repaired but still dmged the Gun by 150 Durability.
These areall guns I made and I was using max experimented Repair tools....what gives?
Weapon repair seems to be a bit out of whack. Maybe I'm just expecting too much but let me explain a little tale.
A good customer of mine sent me a message asking if I could repair his DX2 pistol. Sure I said, since he was a good customer I was more than happy to work with him and keep his business. So I sauntered over and took a 95+% weapon kit out of storage and accepted his DX2 which was at a 750/950 condition.
Now I'm a Master Weaponsmith, using a **edit** good kit on a weapon in decent condition that I made myself. According to the new patch notes I should have had a good chance of handing my customer back a weapon in good condition. So I repair the weapon, dreading the "Falls apart" message. Nope, I repaired it and got a "Moderate success, you damaged the weapon" message.
My customer handed me a 750/950 weapon to repair. I handed him a 590/590 weapon in return.
I'm sorry, that's b0rked.
Sure glad I'm a Master Weaponsmith...My damned Bounty Hunter has better luck repairing weaponry...
Must be because of your PA associations...heh...
Well, hope it's not really like this, becauseI was hoping to pick up a few extra creds on the side doing repairs.
As a fighter my thinking is this:
if i don't repair it once it hits zero it's gone
if i notice it's under 100 and decide to leave it till later I will almost certainly forget
So I repair it (do this myself with a Master Artisan made tool) if I notice it under 100 but assume it's likely to be a goner unless I get lucky
So anything better than the weapon breaking is a bonus for me
I think the person above who asked for a 750/950 weapon to be repaired was not being very smart
I thought that - ok I let my weapon go awhile before repair 237/975, so I may get a "poof".
Forget where I read it, but the longer you hold off on repair, and the lower the condition of the weapon gets-the harder it is to repair. Repair is meant to be done incrementally, not all at once. I've been repairing my weapons as they decay- say repairing them after they've lost 50 condition points or so, and I rarely have problems. Except for my vibro-knucklers of course-they don't seem to repair well for me.
Quote: I sell weapon repair kits (98% effectiveness)
Whoa! What did you use to make them? I can only get 95% or so with the high-conductivity copper I use.
I know on Scylla, where I reside.. I use 996 Ipat Copper.. so I get 99.6 effectiveness rating..
I only repaired 4 weapons so far.. 1 Power Hammer that went from 780/930 down to 710/710 (go figure) and the guns either dropped 100-150 condition or poofed.. Now, I put the crates of kits on the floor ... wont touch them.. last thing I want is "poof" on a weapon and the customer think I am just holding back so they have to buy another gun from me..
yea I am not seeing any skill mods in the skill tree that say +30 to weapon repair either. Reading the notes It appears the magic number for repairs is 50% wear. You want to repair a weapon so that you get the most gain with the greatest chance of success (this much is obvious). To the guy that said he repaired his weapon every 50 points of wear, my reply is 'no you dont'. You are either spinning a tale or have the worst observation skills humanly possible. The absolute best success you can get with a repair tool is 'minor blemishes'. This success lowers the max condition by 50 points.
you start with 849/901 .. you get lucky and get the best possible repair
end result
851/851 if you even did this once you _should_ have realized this.
All you were doing is making sure max condition tracked your weapon wear assuming 'minor blemishes' every single time. Anything but a perfect role and you only speed the decay.
Since theres no skill mods for this skill it becomes apparent that the coding must be very basic. Perhaps its a > or < 50% rule that affects the outcome, nothing linear just a binary chance. That being said perhaps being a generic weaponsmith (no further skill considered) increases your chances _some_. Without further testing it seems as though repairing right around 50% will give you the longest use of your weapon; providing you get 'minor blemishes' every time.
Illustration assuming best repair every time.
Case A Case B
Repair 1801/901 -> 851/8517 daysafter buy 455/901 -> 851/8513-4 weeks after buy
Repair 2751/851 -> 801/801 2 weeks after buy450/851 ->801/8012 months after buy
Repair 3701/801 -> 751/7513 weeks after buy415/801 ->751/751 2mos 3wks after buy
Repair 4 651/751 -> 701/701 1 month after buy385/751-> 701/701 3.5 months after buy
as you can see, if you repaired your weapon every 100 points of wear you could experience 3X less life than waiting till it gets closer to 50%. There seems to be no hard data as of yet that shows any greater chance of less than perfect repairs in the rage of 50% - 100% condition than that of a range of 80% - 100%.
