Thread: Possible exploit dealing with negative condition weapons

The other day I repaired a weapon that was at negative condition and got "minor blemish" on the repair. The guy was very happy the weapon got repaired. When I asked him why he was using a negative condition weapon and if there was a bug involved, he didnt answer.

Over the past few days Ive had several /tells sent to me from people asking about -condition weapons, others asking whats so good about them, etc etc. When asked why they want these weapons, I recieve no response, evasion, or just lies (decoration, etc).

Facts as I know them:
-when a weapon hits 0 condition its worthless and will probably break on repair
-weapons at 0 or - condition are worthless because they do 1dmg

People who inquired about or had negative condition weapons:
- Not newbies who cant afford a new weapon
- Most use krayt weapons
- Most are knitpickers who scrounge for even the slightest percieved advantage and best weapon
- Price is not a factor. They will pay whatever for the very best stuff.

I dont know that there is a bug. However, considering who these people are and knowing how they think, why would they want such a weapon? Something's up with these negative condtion weapons or these guys wouldnt want them. There has to be some kind of benifit. Since there shouldnt be any benifit, the only conclusion I can draw is that there is a bug that gives them an advantage. These guys wouldnt want these weapons so badly unless there was something to them.

Just a heads up.

Did you happen to notice the dmg on that model? At 0 condition, it should have degreaded to a 0 on the dmg, or close to it. If it had dmg points still, then there's something up. The fact that it would never die would be a possibility.

As far as I know, when the wepaon hits 0 condition, Normally the min and max damage will be set to 1. At least this happens to my rifles. The only reason to use these weapons is to grind combat xp by using bleeds with a high damage weapon, WarningShot with the 1 damage weapons, and a grenade to finish the target of. The 1 damage on WS helps to not deal too much non-grenade damage, so you will get full combat xp.

However, for this technique, any weapons with damage 1 will do, and AFAIK they don't decay anymore, so I see no point in repairing them or even wanting negative condition... I agree that something is wrong here.

Hmm, this is something that maybe you should give a heads up to Taurin and the weaponsmith correspondent about.

The weapon i repaired with negative condition had dmg. It was a melee weapon (baton i believe) and had 97max dmg. It was at -50 condition after the repair.

Depending on what type of baton, I wouldn't think that'd be worth keeping... If it's a Gadereffi Baton, you can get one in the 220's on dmg, so 97 would be crap.

I might be mistaken too, but I believe it's the min dmg that goes to 0 on a 0 condition weapon.

Was this person even aware that they had a 0 condition weapon? You wouldn't believe how many requests I had before where someone wanted me to repair their weapon only to find out it was a piece of junk that had been worn down to a nub.

Yes he was well aware it was negative condition. In fact, he was the one that pointed it out to me. Thats what made me wise to the situation and got me suspicious. He indicated it was already at negative condition and now was even more negative. The guy wasnt a newbie so he can easily get another one.

It was a gaffertti (sp?) baton and it had a minimum dmg. Wasnt 0-97.

Ive had people ask me about it, but I had forgotten. I didnt really pay any mind to it until I saw that weapon. Thats when I started getting suspicious and started to remember how several ppl asked me about it in the last few days.

It went further into negatives when you repaired it?

If it keeps getting more negative on subsequent repairs, there may be a point where it hits the negative limit and wraps around to very high positive values. Or maybe the damage reduction is based on proximity to zero, and it'll return to full stats after going further into the negatives.

Yes it went further into negative.

The guy tipped me too. He couldve bought a new one with that tip. 5k. Judging by that tip, he was a happy camper.

Hmmm, since it was a Gad baton, I'm curious now. That 97 for a max is pathetic for a weapon of that sort.

Test it out though... Go grind a pistol down to a nub, repair it, repeat until you see if anything odd is happening.

To get the condition down quicker, just repair it a few times. I would imagine that would work since blemishes will get it down in no time.

ive had similar problems with armor, but it wasnt cause by repairing it at 0, it had at least some condition left then i got a major but not critical fail and it went past 0. i then tried to repair it and it contiuned getting more negative even though it told it was repaird with only a minor blemish. wish id kept it to see if there was anything else odd about it.

I have heard from certain circles that VKs still do full damage at 0 condition, although I think it may have been only for certain special moves, and I can count on one hand how many sets of VKs I have repaired over the months. Don't know if this is a known issue or not, or even if it is true, but given all the stuff with the multiple slicing and bans, I for one am gonna be treading carefully when asked to do repairs such as the type the original poster is talking about...
