Thread: Possible exploit dealing with negative condition weapons
Interesting. It seems that whatever the benefit, the deeper into the negatives the better. (Your customer was happy when you brought it to -50). I'll try to bring a weapon to neg stats and report the results here.

Being a programmer I'm gonna give a hunch here. Weapons and stuff were never meant to go below 0 condition. so at 0 condition the weapon did no damage. Now there is only two reasons why someone would want to go negative condition.
The math used to calculate damage is absolute value. I.e. a weapon w/ -500 condition does the same amount of damage as one with +500 condition, the key being that the weapon will continue to degrade and sooner or later the weapon will have -2000 condition. Lets do some more math and say that the weapon when crafted had 500 condition and did 10-20. So at -2000 condition it would do 40-80 etc. It's just the math working backwords, or worse yet, instead of damage and speed lost on each repair instead it goes up on each repair.
Either of these posibilites are very likely since most programmers over look things such as negatives cause the "Code" isn't suppose to let the user do it.
Tonight I try and grind a cdef to 0 using real lousey stat metals and see if I can get it to go negative and go from there.
yeah use crappy repair tools and repairing won't have to happen so often either! This thing is scary if its an exploit, defineately going to be on the lookout for anything like it!
Anyone know if there is an easy/hard/any way to report exploits ingame etc as I see em happening from time to time but I cant seem to find where to report them! I swear there is no option in the CSR tickets for it, the best i have come up with is asking the person if they know that they are using an exploit (mentioning the particular type they are using as well)and when they say yes (they usually do to some degree) /report them!
This doesn't solve this particular mystery, but I'd like to point out some strange results I got from repairing an Ubese Chest Plate. The armor was around 1000/12000 condition. I repaired it and it said minor blemishes. I think alrighty and examine it. It now has like -599/12000 condition and the kinetic resist on it is -2%. I'm thinking "huh?" so I go ahead and repair it again. This time the condition hits 1/1 and it's broken and the resists on it are now -700000% kinetic resist. I tested it and no, this modifier didn't amplify kinetic by seven hundred thousand times, but I found it really interesting. This has happened to me twice, both times with Ubese Jackets.
Weird, just chiming in.
I think I saw something like this a few months ago. Guy brought a weapon to me (and I can't remember what it was) and it went into negative condition. I apologized to the guy and told him it was negative... he asked me to try again (cause I explained the 'minor blemish') etc, and I did... it went deep into negative con. He dratted, and asked for the gun back cause it'd look cool on his wall... tipped me, and left.
If that's some kind of absolute value/rollover than that's a really scarry bug. What makes me wonder actually is this: We're all talking .SUCCESFUL. repairs that take it negative, not failed repairs that take it to 0. So it might be a specific condition that opens the possibilities (i.e. 0 condition).
We should all start looking out for this and keeping track. I'd put out a call for all crappy condition weapons to experiment and see if there is something going on.. but I'd rather not get banned for doing so if it is a real exploit. ![]()

Shouldn't be a need to grind it so much. Just repair it often.
If you have steps to duplicate it, send a PM to Taurin on the forum. If it's people exploiting in-game, there's an Exploit option somewhere in the CSR tickets, under Community or something.

i'm curious about if the damage is set as an absolute value and tied to condition, and each subsequient repair puts it further into the negatives, is it infinite? For example, a pistol at -5000 condition doing 5000 points of damage? That'd sure be an exploit for the ages.
I dont think that if this bug works this way, it would be as extreme as that. Afterall my weapons dont do more damage when i experiment condition. However I do believe that if you start out w/ 950 condition and perhaps repair it to a -500 it will return to full stats again (assuming that the previous whole number integer is correct). The current damage equation only penalizes the weapon when condition falls below half. The advantage to this is that you'd never have to get your gun repaired again and it would stay at full stats. Testing is definitely in order here. If going -2000 exceeds original crafted stats, then we have a 'game breaking' problem thats as big a deal as the triple/quadruple slicing bug. If it only returns the gun to original stats the bug is less severe and hurts the economy more so than imbalances PVP.
This to test :
once a weapon decays to a negative value does it continue to decay when you do special moves (overcharge shot2 would wear it down quick for sure)?
What happens to a negative value weapon when you put a powerup on it?
What happens to damage as the negative value increases from -1 to -600 ? What then happens at -1000?
this is weird, i have a couple of suits of armour in my house (just for show), their all either armour that i wore out myself or picked up for next to nothing. but theres a chitin armour breastplate that has something like a -16k condition! i never really paid any attention to it, figured it was just royally nerfed, dumped it in my house and left it there. i think im gonna have another look tho...
maybe the armoursmith community should be involved as well?
