What do you mean by this? I've seen statements similar to this elsewhere. Are you saying that even though a schematic calls for high SR, that 300 is all it takes to max it out? Or are you just implying that 300 is the highest you can get for SR on that part. resource.

As a new WS I'm curious to learn about where certain limits are in terms of needed resource quality. If something calls for a high SR, is there a point at which using a higher quality resource just flattens out?

Hiya, i'm new to being a weaponsmith and i'd really appreciate having some questions answered, and any other help you can offer.

I'm on the Bria server, FYI.

I've chosen to keep it fairly simple and only make the following weapons (However if you'd like to help me make amendments to this list, please do )

- Vibro Knucklers

- Stun Baton

- Vibro Blade

- FWG5 Pistol

- Launcher Pistol

- Scatter Pistol

- DX2 Pistol

- DL44 Metal Pistol

- Laser Carbine

- EE3 Carbine

- Laser Rifle

- T21 Rifle

- Flame Thrower

- Light Lightning Cannon

Now, below is a list of the resource needed to make all of the above weapons, and the advanced components for them as well. The required attributes are in bold.

- Rhodium Steel (CD / SR)

- Duralloy Steel (HR / SR & CD / SR)

- Duranium Steel (CD / SR)

- Quadranium Steel (UT)

- Axidite Iron (UT)

- Plumbum Iron (HR / SR)

- Kammris Iron (CD / OQ)

- Doonium Iron (CD / OQ)

- Ostrine Carbonate Ore (CD / OQ)

- Siliclastic Ore (CD / OQ)

- Titanium Aluminum (CD / OQ)

- Link-Steel Aluminum (CD / OQ & SR)

- Chromium Aluminum (OQ)

- Phrik Aluminum (CD / OQ)

- Desh Copper (UT)

- Platinite Copper (UT)

- Diatium Copper (CD / OQ)

- Polysteel Copper (SR)

- Ryll Armophous Gemstone (CD / SR)

- Green Diamon Gemstone (OQ)

- Armophous Gemstone (UT)

- Byrothis Crystalline Gemstone (SR)

- Class 3 Solid Petrochemical Fuel

- Irolunn Reactive Gas (OQ)

- Polymer (OQ & UT)

- Corellian Deciduous Wood (SR)

This brings me to my main question..... Out of the above resources, what quality value should I be looking for and expecting? Keep in mind that I have no interest in crafting really bad weapons, I would like mine to be fairly standard to keep in line with most of the competition

I've looked hard and all over, and have spent over 4 million on resources already but can't seem to find everything in what I would normally expect to be good quality.

So for each of those resources, what IS considered "GOOD QUALITY"??

If what i'm asking doesn't make sense, say so and i'll try to better explain it.

Also, to keep in line with my question, lets take a normal "DX2" from one of you master weaponsmiths, and list me its stats, and the resources (its qualities) and the components used.

I'm on a fairly limited time schedule, and don't really know what all I need to do yet, but i'm more than eager to learn.

I appreciate any and all help with this

Thank you!

Ya bookmark swgcraft.com and visit it often, keep a list of all resources needed and the important stats on them and hit anything that beats your current stock when it spawns. It will take about 3 months to get the resources to start building some of the better weapons on your server, sometimes it takes that long just to get the resources necessary to build a weapon. Gallorian gemstone and Alantium ore tend to be very rare and used in T21's, a high demand rifle, so be especially alert to these minerals and other rare spawns and stock up heavily when the do spawn. Keep an eye open on Duralloy and Kammris Iron, these tend to spawn with good UT/SR/CD/OQ which will be used heavily and also Polysteel copper for cond/oq. It can be frustrating mining 200k woth of a phrik aluminum then a week later a better spawn comes along so keep a resources vendor and sell off older stock of minerals when you replace it with better mines. Be especially mindful of keeping well stocked on minerals used in subcomponents such as Desh copper for vibromotors and Irulonn gas for power handlers, if you run out of a mineral for a subcomponent it ruins your ability to make a large portion of your stock. Good luck, weaponsmithing is a big challenge which is why there are only a handful of really good weaponsmiths on any server but it can be rewarding too. I still get a kick of going into a random house and seeing one of my weapons on display.

As far as I can see, your off to an amazing start...I wish I had put this much into it from the start.

As far as "Good" quality of materials, it's hard to say, but you can get an idea of average numbers on those resources from swgcraft.com. One thing to keep in mind...300 SR on a particular metal "might" be the best for a particular weapon or component...so you really need to keep on your toes with resources, and make sure you don't just look at the high numbers, but always check if a certain resource is the best for what you'll be using it for. I personally missed a great spawn of Desh Copper because I was looking at 800's and 900's for quality, and not realizing that the 500's where it was at was actually a great number compared toother spawns of that metal....so always pay attention to what you have, and compare.

oh...and good luck! relax! and just have fun!....(even though it feels like real work at times:smileywink

Some resources are gated, meaning that for a particularresource it will never go over a certain value for some stats.
For example steel will never have a CD of 1000

As a poster above said, the new version of Fooman's tool on swgcraft.com is great for this. You can download the current resource listing (entered by players, so help keep it up to date!) and it'll show you all resources compared to your current stock and whether it's better for a given schematic and if so, by how much.

It's nice to tell that even though that nice steel just popped, it's still 1% worse than the stuff you've already got 200k of. You can then make a good decision to either harvest it for sale or keep, or just pass and go get something else. Also real nice for figuring out when you can dump a resource - e.g., I grabbed some not-very-good link-steel a while back, and the tool can tell me that that particular steel is now no higher than 5th place in any schematic -> bazaar time.

A few thoughts:

- Jawa Ion Rifle - PvPers love these since it's stun damage

- Maybe something for the swordsmen - power hammer?

- Vibroblade is a throwaway - fencers will use them for specials for the low HAM costs, but I doubt you'll sell many and those you do will be very cheap

- DH17 short carbine - EE3 doesn't seem to be that popular, and the short DH17 carbine actually looks a lot like the EE3 so you don't get that "CDEF look"

- Republic blaster or the DX2- otherwise, you won't have anything for the pistoleer crowd

I'm by no means a successful weaponsmith yet, but from looking around on Scylla that's kind of the mix I see. I'd also start looking at the loot schematics (scythe, disruptor rifle, etc) and see what you'd need for those. At some point when you get successful, people will start seeking you out to craft custom weps with schematics/loot drops (or so I hear).

Thank you for all the help

I was already using swgcraft.com, but I was unaware there was a tool. Wheee

As you all have suggested i've begun mining what I can, and will replace my stock every time something better comes along.

What you said about resources being gated, that makes sense, I was beginning to wonder. Is there by any chance an information source with all of the resources and what is known to be their limits in certain attributes? It would be very nice to know, at least roughly where my expectations for most of my resources should be.

Also, thank you ManWithNoNM, I was wondering about the vibro blade, but I will remove it from my list I will also look into the carbines more, and something for swordsman. I do plan to make DX2 pistols, they were my favourite from pistoleer.. and I seem to hear that a lot of people like them.

Thanks again everyone!

seen varying lists ofwhat the stats on gated resources are.

I tend to use the Find resources function on swgcraft.com to compare the available and unavailable spawns of gated materials. From this I get a shopping list and start looking.

You'd be suprised what you can find on the bazaar if you take the time to look.

Have found nice blocks of copper worth 30cpu for 3cpu.

I dont know about other smiths on my server or others, but I could make a business solely based on VK's......I sell SO many VK's its unreal.

I was of the same train of though with you on DX2, although pistoleer has been so nerfed that pistols are my slowest sellers. T21's are a lofty goal, but also require the most difficult resources to come by at least on Valcyn. I tend to sell a lot of LLC's and Flamers as well.

Follow the flavor of the week professions and cater to them, like I said, I am selling alot of TKM weapons, a lot of BH weapons, and a lot of rifles and 2 handed swords <especially power hammer>.
