Thread: An explaination... Base DPS vs Modified DPS (please read!)

I can see some of you here really need this info from the Bria trade forum. I'm fed up of seeing people quote and argue DPS stats. Original post by Caqoshor.

The base DPS of a weapon is the damage per second you will get without any skills, no skill mods from your profession(s), attachments, etc... The modified DPS stat on a weapon only shows when you equip it, and it takes the base DPS, and adds the skill mods from your profession(s) as well as any attachments you may have. Obviously, the modified DPS is going to be different for everyone, so the only effective way to compare weapons to one another is to go by the base DPS, because that is always the same, no matter who has the gun equipped and what their skillmods/template is.

I hope I am being clear on this, because it's annoying when someone has an auction for say...a 340 base DPS weapon and someone chimes in and says "I got an uber 450 DPS weapon from so and so for really cheap!" and they are talking about their modified DPS. I haven't seen a weapon higher than 366 base DPS so far since the CU was released, and that was made with 193 damage tissues, so the chances of someone having a base DPS weapon over 400 is not very good.

Please take this information into consideration when posting here, it will help both the sellers and the buyers to have the correct stat when trying to buy or sell a weapon, because DPS has become a very important stat to determine whether a weapon is good or not, and if someone thinks they are getting a 450 DPS weapon and they come to meet you to buy it and it's really a 250 DPS weapon, they are not going to be pleased...

Thanks for reading this!

Wow! You need to read some different posts here on these boards mate. DPS is NOT the be all, end all.

There are many other stats that are just as relevant if not more so. I would never only look @ the DPS. It can actually be rather meaningless in some cases. It all depends on what you need your gun for.

And as for posting a TF post here, well mate....TFN

sac cost is what I look for in a rifle, esp krayted ones. jack the dps up with tissues (esp high speed ones) that way the weapie can experiment more on sac.

290 or 390? If 390 you would need to cap min and max damage while having around 1.9 speed. Not sure how feasible it is with 12 but I'm sure it's much harder with 10.

Edit: 12 points and 10 points.

Wow you need to actually read my post.

This is not an argument of which stat is most important. Nor is it an offer to sell. Its simply to explain to people what the difference between base dps and modified dps is. Im sorry you have totally misread the point and i have to explain the explanation to you, but this is the exact reason I feel this needs to be said. So we dont get people trying to compare a 800dps(Pup and mod) with someone's 300dps. (base).

This is not about the importance of DPS or SAC. its simply how to read DPS correctly.

Read again.

Highest dps weapon i have made was a 377 base dps scatter. I cant remember exact damage on it or speed. SAC was 90 which is a bit high, but i was trying to make a high dps weapon.

Yeah thought it was useful. There are many people who still arent sure what dps stat to quote when someone asks about dps. Forgive any spelling mistakes. I just copy and paste it. I'm not editing it now. Im sick of replacing the links that get lost on each edit.
