Thread: why all the secrecy?

I have been all over every SWG site and forum I could find on google and I have yet to find a single decent list or database that details what NPCs/Creatures drop skill tapes. Does anyone have a link to one? I have plenty of patience to go hunting, and I really don't feel like dropping millions of credits on buying skill tapes.

Ive looted tapes off
- NS all of them really, spellweavers, protectors, elders seem to drop the best for me atleast
- Sith gota +3 carbine speed and a def vs posture change +2 tape off some thugs
- SMC and spiderclanseem to drop about the same quality as NS
- Darktroopers got some misc tapes i cant remember
- Containers in dungeons
- misc npc's (stormtroopers, and the misc spawns in n00b areas)

Dont forget Corsairs on Lok, Best known secret...ok maybe not a secret but great for AA/CAs
Got my +5 WS exp tape there 
and lots of other great AAs/CAs, just be warned dont expect alot from them if anything. Typically i dont get anything, but when they hit, they can hit big!

Add the Aa'kuan cave on Talus (which I've tried) and Lord Nyax's (which I haven't, but have heard about).

Basically anything of high enough level can drop skill tapes. I have personally gotten stuff off of random stuff including tuskens and other places. Another "secret" that some people know about and others dont is the borgle bat cave on rori.. even though it was nerfed I have heard that it still has nice loot at the bottom if you can get the timers right and hope there isnt some guy sitting there afk waiting for the next thing to pop up.

Great post. I've been doing the same thing... hunting everywhere on the net, trying to learn what drops these precious WS exp SEA's.
I think most of the secrecy comes from business. If everyone knew how to get them, people couldn't charge 2+ million credits for them.
Good to see that a few people here actually told where they looted them

I would like to get together with a few of you and start compiling a list.
So far we have
- Night Sisters on Dathomir
- Dark troopers on ?
- SMC (what does that stand for) on ?
- Spiderclan on ?
- Corsairs on Lok
- ? in the Aa'kuan cave on Talus
- Lord Nyax's (what) on ?
- ? in the Borgle bat cave on Rori
- Tuskans on Tattooine
- Aa'kuans on ?
Some noob questions:
1. What does SEA stand for and is this the same as skill tapes?
2. What are the highest skill increases possible for 1 tape?

skill tapes and armor attachments are considered 'random loot' that can drop from any NPC (basically anything that can drop locked containers, loot kit parts, etc, can also drop tapes).
The mod(s) on the skill tape are entirely random. You're as likely to get weapon experimentation on a meatlump tape as you are on a nightsister elder tape.
The bonus (number) on the tape is based on the level of what drops it. Meatlumps pretty much only drop +1s or blanks, aakuan championsand low-level nightsisters can drop as high as +6, higher level nightsisters (like protectors) can drop upwards of +10, lord Nyax (a POI boss on corellia with a 3h40min respawn timer) can drop up to +16, and elders, axkva, dark jedi masters, SM councilwomen can all drop +25s.
The fastest way to get little tapes is the jinda cave, there are several loot piles there with a very fast respawn (I think 20 mins?) that can spawn up to 3 SEAs per pile. Only +1s and +2s here, but if you need something specific this is a good place to get it because of the high volume.
If you're hoping to get just any high mod that's valuable, go hunt the highest level NPCs that you can handle (nyax and elders are recommended), but if you want something specific....well....the odds of getting ANY tape at all from these is low enough that you might as well win a lottery as loot exactly what you're after.

The thing to keep in mind is that you cant expect to go kill a few of any of these NPC's and loot a tape. I have spent probably 12 hours the last month killing corsairs, blood razors, and nyms guards on Lok and I have looted probably 3 attachments total the best of which was a carbine speed +3. I seem to loot more modded clothing than anything else, and it always seems to be belts unfortunately.

Any humanoid npc mob can drop SEA's.
Check all locked safe boxes in indoor / caves as well.

Aa'kuans, and champions in particular, have a thing for dropping up to +4 attachments. If not all, nearly all are AA's though.
