Thread: I Have Finally Figured It Out!!!
The current plan is a master merchant will be able to stock 4000 items, on any combination of 18 vendors. 4000 on one, 222 on 18, and so on.
if i were a merchant and could get people to sell me their goods at a 20% reduced cost (ie. 8k instead of 10k), with this new system i could market food, weapons, armour, meds, droids, and clothing to the server from one location, nicely divided by multiple vendors.
don't get me wrong, i still hate the item cap. i don't think it is right for them to tell us we can only keep X number of items. i think they should expand and/or improve their database since we are paying $15 a month. every cent of that should go towards making a bettr game, with people who buy the game and useless game guides supplying the actual profits.

the only thing keeping merchant from being a valid class is greedy crafters.
Wrong Wrong Wrong. The only thing keeping merchant from being a valid class is that it's boring and no one wants to do it!!! As a crafter with my alt I do not want to have to depend on someone else to sell my products. Most merchants work on consignment so that would mean I'd have to give over all my stock and wait for payment. If the person decides to quit playing for any reason I'm screwed. I make hundreds of weapons weekly. How do I hand over hundreds of weapons to one player? I can onlyoffer 20to a vendor to sell, which means i have to wait on the merchant to be on to hand over weapons. Not to mention the fact that if he doesn't want them i'll have to pick them up. I don't want to depend on someone to sell my stuff and i wish to continue enjoying combat. I enjoy making quality weapons and selling them. I guess the devs don't want anyone to enjoy th egame too much so they just keep ruining it a little more.
As for crafters being greedy. All I can do is laugh at such a stupid statement. How is a crafter being greedy for wanting to sell his own wares and a merchant NOT greedy for profiting off someone else's work? The crafters choice will now be to gimp themselves and be useless in pvp to take up that exciting merchant profession or just give up the fun they had crafting. Hats off to teh devs for ruining the game a little more. The best thing the devs can do for the game would be to kill themselves and leave the game alone.

No, it doesn't make any sense, at all. There is a reason why companies like As Seen On TV exist, and why companies spend millions to have ad agencies make commercials. Just because you can make something doesn't mean you know anything at all about advertising said item and selling it.
We should be using merchants as middlemen and selling our stuff through them. But there's one huge problem with that system, I call it the **edit** factor. Of course we all know the **edit** factor, some people are asshats and looking to take advantage of anyone they can. The developers failed to take the **edit** factor into consideration when they envisioned their groundbreaking player economy. Now, you can bypass the **edit** factor and just suck it up and get some Merchant skills. If you don't want to do this then you have two choices
- Make friends with a Merchant.
- Stop crafting
I hate to see other crafters get fed up with their proffesion and quit, but you know what, that means more money for me.
Do any of these changes mean that you have to stop combat? Hell no. I have Master Artisan, Master Weaponsmith, and have enough points left over to Master Swordsmen and have Management 3. I can drop Master Artisan and the Homemaker line and gain enough points to get more merchant if I want.

Ahh so the choises are to depend on someone else or quit... Great business sense. I realize this is a game where player interaction is important. But frankly,I don't feel comfortable putting all money in the hands of someone who could possibly quit playing, be banned, drop merchant... etc. You're trying to use real world examples in this game and you can't. In r/l if i had a product being sold be a company and they went under I'd be able to take legal action and possibly be able to recover some of my losses. You can't do that in this game. But more importantly, no one has come up with a way for a crafter to get thousands of items to a merchant. I currently have around 900 items on my vendor, and i'm not fully stocked. In the future how will crafters be able to get 1000, 2000 or more items to a merchant to sell? Not to mention the fact that the merchant will at most be able to handle only 4000 total. I've seen crafters with more items than that.
You say you hate to see people get fed up with thier professions and quit. That's just the thing. Crafters won't be fed up with thier professions. They just will have a very difficult time selling what they make.
AndI hate to tell you this but as Master Artisan, Master WS, and Master Swords your a quick kill in PvP. Not enough Defensive skills there. You have to take on some fencer or TK and you'd end up withsomething likeKopa has above. Notice the lack of Merchant skills.

I've about sucked up this nerf. Is it so unreasonable to ask thata merchant profession manage multiple vendors? Is it unrealistic to assume that a player, who not only gathers his owns components, but crafts his own weapons is a bit busy? Would he have the time to manage 5+ vendors, and thousands of items for sale?
I've been a master merchant and master weaponsmith for as long as i've been able, and while i think 110 items per vendor (i'm not sure on their latest number) is a bit low, I do not think its asking to much that a player be somewhat of a business man to hire and run merchants.
You've provided no alternatives... continue to allow people to master merchant once, put up 6 vendors with custom greetings and clothing and then drop merchant, let alone artisan, all together? No, I want merchants to prosper, even if it means buying weapons (or any other goods) and selling them for a profit.

In theory,I agree with you. In the game it will never work. The only crafters that will be left will be the ones who chose to drop other professions and take up Merchant. You said yourself you are a master WS and master Merchant. How many other WS's, AS's, Chefs, BE's, etc can you manage? Can you afford to buy out someone else complete stock? Or will you sell on consignment? Will you come and pick up the thousands of items from crafters or will they have to be delivered? And either way how will that be done? And if you sell on consignment and stop playing, how does the crafter get repaid? I'm all for a revamp of merchant, but why penalize everyone else? And why should my income be dependant on someone else? You're right I've provided no alternatives but that is because I have instantly noticed the problems with the changes that no one has provided a solution for.
Even if a merchant decides to use a vendor for each crafter he choses to deal with that crafter will only be able to sell 1 or 2 each of the items he can make. People regularly come to my vendor and buy 3 to 10 identical weapons to get the slice they want. to make 10 of everything i'd need a place to sell about 900 weapons. That doesn't count upgrade kits or power ups, or even components for WS in training to use. Not to mention crates of knives for slicers. We are going to need a merchant for every 2 crafters, assuming the merchant isn't also a crafter. Or every crafter will have to be a merchant as well. Which brings me back to my point a few posts ago, Why isn't business incorperated into the elite crafting lines so that at master the crafter can have a vendor with at least 1000 items? The merchant profession could still flourish, but the crafters could be independant small business owners. The new system is basically taking out the "mom and pop" stores and replacing them with Walmart!
