Thread: Weaponsmithing Totally Screwed

I'll get right to the point: Out of the 22 guns I just constructed (using best possible resources, 14+ crafting tool, 42+ crafting station) all 22 of them had a "Moderate Success" in the experimentation.

Not a few, not most -- ALL of them. I tried 1-bubble experimentation, 2-bubble, 3-bubble, 5-bubble.. Didn't matter how or what combination. All weapons had "Moderate Success" at least once.

I know it has been mentioned before, even by our correspondant.. Moderate Success is broken. It should be Moderate or Great Failure. Most of the time when I get one it either A) Lowers max damage by 10-20 points, B) Reduces Durability points by 50 or C) Raises HAM by 4 or 5 points. How the hell is this a success?

So now I basically have to stop constructing weapons and wasting resources as it is IMPOSSIBLE to build a decent weapon anymore.

The next problem: Weapon Decay was boosted by at least two fold, if not three in what seems to be a series of stealth nerfs against weaponsmiths. Weapons are degrading 50-100 points per average hunt without a powerup, twice that with. It would have been niceof them to mention this insane boost somewhere.

Now with their knee-jerk weapon decay boost they throw in a totally bugged and moronic weapon repair system. Gee.. Usingmaximized functionality repairtool and I totally DESTROY 80% of the weapons I try to repair as a master weaponsmith and the other 20% are left gimped! Yeah that makes a hell of a lot of sense.

What a ham-fisted cluster **edit**.

I'm on Scylla and not having trouble with either experimentation or weapon repair. I've onlyrepaired one weapon out of 10-15 that didn't get a "minor blemishes" repair. Also, I've been able to find a certain bubble pattern for each weapon type that gives "great success" almost all the time.

BTW, I am a master weaponsmith. I use +14.88 crafting tools and a +42 station.

I'm in the same boat as you. 42+ station, 15% tools (I think). I'd say I get moderate every 4th-5th piece or so. Nowhere near 100% like the first guy.

And as for repairing weapons. They made that a whole lot easier in that big patch. This weekend was the first I tried it again and I had minor blemises on all but one. The other was repaired, just reduced Max Condition a bit more than Minor... I'd say I did about 7 repairs. Even took a chance on my Krayt FWG5 at about 50%condition.

Question, Did your krayt gun lose it Krayt Stats? I hear that happens more and more these days. Thx,

In other words, make as many schematics, especially FWG5's,as possible now?

Whoah whoah whoah, settle down sport.

You craft 22 weapons. Let's say you have 10 experimentation points, and you use 2-bubble experiment steps. That means you experimented 5 times per weapon, and got something other than a great success one time.

I think we need to step back and chill for a sec if we think it is a horrible failure when having an 80% chance of maximum successes is considered a disastrous problem.

Now, don't get me wrong, there ARE problems. The devs are basically bad at math, that's the biggest problem. There should be something like a TRUE moderate success, where everything goes up, but not as much. "Amazing successes" seem to be nearly nonexistent on weaponexperimentation (as opposed to other fields) Crafting tool and station quality should do SOMETHING. Some professions (including ours, but i'm thinking mainly armorsmith and architect) have reported freakishly high critical failure rates at Master, and that ain't right.

But saying that it's hard to make a perfect weapon isn't something I'd expect to get a lot of sympathy for the dev's about.

I'd have to agree with the poster here. I'm having the exact same problem, with a station 43.9 toolz at 15 and 12 points in experimentations as well as 7 in weapon assembly , we got a serious problem.

They dont take in consideration any of the personal tools or buffs (Except maybe for the experimentation bonus part)

In 12 point of experiments , i can be very very lucky and have 0 moderate success or i can have like 4-5 of em on 12 points. Most often than ever i get moderate success (which is about 35-40% of the time)

Something is seriously wrong here, and i also wish this would be fixed asap.

Thanks for reading,

No doubt about it. Since the last big patch, experimentation has gotten a lot more quirky. I used to discard my blemishes when going for a schematic. Cuz it would take me either 1 or 2 tries most times, 3 if I was having some real bad luck....2 days ago...6 tries to get my best llc!! That's a lotta blaster handlers. I set up a "Weapon Clearance" vendor about a week ago so I can get something back on these horrors. But my biggest beef? The very noticeable increase in crit fails. I destroyed 2 nice krayt tissues yesterday that were not even mine! One I charged the guy peanuts for his other 3 guns, and the 2nd I had to grab a couple of my best enhancers since he had no more and was one of my best customers! I'm sorry, but as a master of weaponsmithing I expect a complete failure resulting in a destroyed weapon to be very rare indeed. Going forward I'm now gonna have to tell customers that there is a very real possibility that your uber enhanced weapon is actually gonna blow up in my face...leaving you with nothing to show for the 300k you just spent on your marvelous krayt tissue. That is just plain wrong!!

I have to agree with the gist of this thread. The expermentation success rates for a master weaponsmith are set too low. It can easily take 6+ tries to get a nice schematic. I absolutely hate hand crafting guns for anyone as I know that I can either put the max experimentation points into damage and hope I am lucky enough to get a great success or I can put them in one or two at a time and hope I only get one "moderate success" so I don't have to destroy the gun. I hand crafted a striker for someone yesterday as I ran out of an old resource and had to remake my pistol barrel schematic and so hadn't made a new striker schematic using the new serial on the pistol barrels and it took me 6 tries to make one I wasn't embarrassed to give him.

It shouldn't take a "master" 6 tries to make a high quality gun or schematic and we shouldn't feel like hand crafting a gun instead of using a factory to make one is a stupid way to craft.

I say this in every single one of these threads, but I'll say it again:

Every week, we have an "experimentation was nerfed" thread. If every single week, these threads were actually accurate and true, experimentation would be so degraded at this point that no guns would be able to be made perfectly on any server by anyone. Considering the frequency of these threads and the fact that no one can ever agree on one date that experimentation became "broken", we lose our credibility in accurately reporting such bugs or nerfs.

Having to go through 22 attempts before getting a perfect schematic is not abnormal. If this has never happened to you before, I'd have to say you haven't been a Master smith that long. It's just bad luck and it happens, on occasion, to everyone.

Personally, I don't think that moderate successes should be rare. They should be pretty common. Why? Cuts down on rare, stockpiled resources. Not by a lot, of course, but the resources you lose add up. Yeah, it sucks when I've only got 3k of the best Iron on the server left, and I end up eating over 700 units of it just trying to get a perfect FWG5 schematic. But I know that this also means other smiths are running out of this Iron just as quickly, so I won't have to stress as much about having my FWG5s degrade by losing the rest of my Iron. And for smiths that missed out on important resources, it cuts down on the time it takes these resources to leave the economy, so they'll have a better shot at selling guns sooner.I think this is the logic of the developers, as to why you are not always guaranteed perfect schematics at Master.

On repairing:

My alternate character is a soon-to-be Master Smuggler. Over the weekend, I was more-or-less fighting nonstop. I have a sliced Krayt FWG5 which is 60-300 1.6. I started when the weapon was at ~600 condition and gained roughly 800,000 exp. At that point, the weapon was hanging around 400 condition and I repaired it successfully. I was soloing bolle bols with Body Shot, non-stop shooting. A loss of 200 condition for 800,000 exp using non-stop BS2 against high level NPCs does not, in the slightest, constitute claims of "weapon decay boosted two-fold". I highly suggest you backup your claims before making outright accusations of a stealth weapon decay nerf of that caliber.

Lastly, I'veattempted to repair5-10 weapons daily, since the patch. I have completely broken 1 of them thus far. I'm led to believe that your anecdotes are nothing more than exaggerations stemming from your frustration with your profession and are mostly unfounded.

Wow hehe what an article. I'll throw in my two bits.

I've been a master smith since week 3 (just retired yesterday ! haven't changed my sig yet )

I'm used to having to try anywhere from 1 up to 30 times to get a perfect schematic. I think there should be a chance that making a perfect gun will require many attempts - it's what separates the wheat from the chaff

Are you really a weaponsmith ? or a dabbler who just wants to plunk down at the crafting station for a minuteand create a genius schematic with just a few mouse clicks.

And just because a gun has one or two moderates in it doesnt make it a bad gun, or unsaleable.

Also - how could you possibly make smithing fun ? really in all seriousness. I realize increasing the success probabilities would reduce some of your mouse clicks, but you'd still be clicking a mouse on a crafting screen. Whether you do it 20 times to make an fwg, or 10 times for the fwg and 10 times for a scout, it's still the same clicking.

While the argument that using up rare resources contributes to the over all gameplay in creating a scaricty of resources I don't think that is true these days anylonger with everyone having heavy harvesters and access to 20 or 30 lots borrowed or rented from others. By the time a "rare" resource leaves a server now most of the established WS have hundreds of thousands of units of it so spending 700 units of a resource doing a dull repetative series of clicks doesn't add anything to the game except for frustration at not being able to do something that you are supposedly a master at doing.

20 or 30 lots doesn't matter, nor does having 10-20 heavy harvesters matter. Unless you're the first person to get to the good spot, you're SOL. With all the established Masters, unless you're the first person to get on the best available spot, it will be packed within 24 hours.

So, not only do you have to check resources daily Galaxy-wide to ensure you are on top of all of the resources, you have to race to find good veins. And the longer you take to find a good vein, the less time you have for your harvesters to sample materials. Even if you're on top of things and quickly find a vein, resources are not infinite.

Take for example, Irolunn Reactive Gas. A week was simply not enough for me to get as much of this as I would have liked. I use at least 1000 Advanced Blaster Power-handlers every 4-5 days. Best spot available was 70% and I laid down 10 experimented heavy gas processors. Had I not been online that day, I would have completely missed it spawning and would likely had spent a full day hunting through various planets for an uncamped crap vein. But I'm still blowing through this gas quickly. Since I use over 1000 ABPHs a week, that means I'm remaking every single gun schematic every single week. Then moderate successes really, really add up, when I'm blowing through 64 units of Irolunn just for oneFlamethrower attempt. If I had 10 attempts at a Flamethrower and 10 attempts at a LLC, that'd be 1280 units of Irolunn gone. That's 80 wasted ABPHs.

Lastly, if loss of resources did not matter, we would not have these experimentation complaints. If you honestly think you have an infinite amount of resources, 4 attempts at a FWG5 should not bother you. Of all the time-consuming things in this game --running to harvesters, trying to find concentrations, tracking resources, waiting on factories -- the time it takes to go through 4 attempts at a FWG5 isbarely any time wasted at all. That's just a few minutes, hardly worthy ofsuch an onslaught of complaints, complaints better directed atmuch biggertime-consuming nuisances such as harvester maintenance. So it shouldn't bother anyone really, right? But it does. Why? Because that's the resources of 4 guns wasted, invaluable resources that no longer exist and may not ever exist again.
