Thread: Weaponsmithing Totally Screwed

I think more of the frustration just comes from failing at anything, repeatedly.

Anyway, to change topics... Logix-Ace... since you are apparently the weapon repairing stud, have you repaired many weapons in really poor shape? Like under 25? how did those go? Do you use high quality repair tools, or just whatever (not that I know if it matters)

On experimentation: current TC version has done something that basically reduces the amount of that bar you can fill in (and consequently the amount of stat improvements you get from experimentation).

Time to make dozens of crates of every gun now, because post-patch guns will suck ass if this goes live.

As I recall from the patch notes, the worse the condition of the weapon, the higher the chance of a poor repair or complete failure. That being the case, repairing weapons at 25 or below should fail more frequently than repairing weapons in reasonable condition.

Forgot to post the link to the TC experimentation change thread: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=TestCenter&message.id=28628

The average condition has been about 200. Usually most of my guildmates start bringing their guns to me when it hits that point. The only weapon under 50 I remember repairing at all was around 48 or something, and it was completely successful.

However, the only gun I have managed to break (and horribly, at that) since the change was at ~600 condition, surprisingly. It was a T21, and it is now 1/1 condition and 1 min, 1 max damage. The guildmate who owned it put it on display on the PA hall, as a testament to my being a horrible person. :>

I have not repaired enough weapons of significantly high condition (600+) or of significantly low (100-) to determine whether or not condition genuinely is a factor, so far.

And Jennai answered the other stuff. I have the exact same experiences as she does in terms of repairing.

Every week, we have an "experimentation was nerfed" thread. If every single week, these threads were actually accurate and true, experimentation would be so degraded at this point that no guns would be able to be made perfectly on any server by anyone. Considering the frequency of these threads and the fact that no one can ever agree on one date that experimentation became "broken", we lose our credibility in accurately reporting such bugs or nerfs.

It is no secret that they have been tinkering with experimentation. Just look at their track record.. Is it really that ming-boggling to think that in their bumbling "fixes" they aren't really just messing things up more? Or they have been nerfing weapon experimentation gradually trying to produce a desired effect? Don't bring up the issue of our credibility if we just report our experiences. It is their credibility that is under scrutiny as SOE is legendary for slipping in "updates and features" that "enhance" our play experience.

Logix:

I'm really glad weaponsmithing has been so perfectly flawless for you. I only wish my game experience and the experience of other master smiths could be as happily enjoyable as yours. Unfortunately it isn't. Nearly every master smith on my server has either dropped the skill tree or stopped producing weapons (I know of three shops that regularly keep up with the latest resources and weapon stock on the entire server). The crafting end of thisgame is crippledby frustrating bugsand a TOTALLY obnoxious experimentation system.

Thats great that you enjoy it and it works for you but please remember that you are in the minorityon that respect. It is tedious, time consuming and frustrating.

Greets ...

Hmm ... I really don't see a problem here.

Let's take a gun ... an everyday gun ... the FWG5 ... been selling mine for 10k

They take a whopping 213 resources ... I might run 4 or 5 tries to get a *great*both on reported results as well as *visual* results.

ok ... let's double that to 10 ... no ... let's make it 50!!! ... 10k of resources ... ouch ... that's a lot of resources wasted getting a schem ...

Ok ... I ran full 1,000 factory runs for all 3 components .. I crank out 950 guns ... sell each for 10k ... that's 9.5 million credits ... and I am going to cry about wasting 10k resources on experimentation?

So some of you don't run full schems for your components ... let's say you are not really *master* of your trade and you get stuck with making only 100 of those guns.

100 * 10k = 1 million credits ... still not going to cry about 10k of resources. If your making schems for less then 100 guns at a time, the problem is not with the game .. the problem is with *how* you play the game.

Sure it sucks to get less then great when doing Krayts or Enhancements ... but it makes the guns sooooo much sweeter when the norm is not AMAZING.

Being a *Master* is not a free pass ... hell ... how many of you actually did any real selling before you hit master? worked your way up the trees over the course of several months ... learning the in's and out's? I would say 70% of Masters today grinded up the tree.

So you want to give a *free* pass to 70% of all Master Weaponsmiths? what is the good of that? No ... I would rather have the deligent get rewarded with better schems.

Personally I don't look for the *perfect* schem .. not at this point in my game ... maybe down the road I will spend 3 hours on the *perfect* schem ... but not today.

I don't think that this tread is about experimentation getting nerfed again rather it is another complaint that it doesnt' work as it is whether it was recently nerfed or not.

I guess the difference of opinnion between most of the posters in this thread and the previous poster is that most of us don't find making 20 attempts to get a good schematic entertaining. It also doesn't fit with our perception of the abilities of a master.

While the argument that using up rare resources contributes to the over all gameplay in creating a scaricty of resources I don't think that is true these days anylonger with everyone having heavy harvesters and access to 20 or 30 lots borrowed or rented from others. By the time a "rare" resource leaves a server now most of the established WS have hundreds of thousands of units of it so spending 700 units of a resource doing a dull repetative series of clicks doesn't add anything to the game except for frustration at not being able to do something that you are supposedly a master at doing.

Luck shouldn't have anything to do with creating stuff as a master only skill should - the skills we learned leveling up to master. In otherwords once you are a master you shouldn't have to try 20 times to make a high quality gun that you got the schematic for at armscrafting 2. If there were some actual skill or any fun gameplay involved in clicking resources into a schematic then more people might agree with you. However most of us play this game to have fun when we are playing it not to do dull repetitive tasks over and over again which inthe end analysis don't have any real effects on the game. Sooner or later you will get that great schematic - it just a matter of going thru the grind enough times and waiting for the random number generator to roll your way - that isn't good gameplay.

It's probably that 40%+ crafting station that you used. I noticed that the "high end" crafting stations were producingfairly horrible results. I dropped down to a 33% or 35% station (one w/o some optional component), and everything came back to normal. Not sure, but I think the 40% stations are using some advanced option (maybe droid storage) that's hosing up the experimentation. I don't think it's the end of the world for weaponsmiths.

Hum....... I'm not having any trouble with experimentation. So, I don't get all greats on the first try. That's just the way the system works. After a couple tries I get all greats make my schematic and move on....

i use around a 7 crafting station and i dont have near the problems you guys seems to be having. sure i get one failure every now and then. maybe even a moderate. more often then not however i do bring in the great successes. so claiming the whole profession is screwed might be a bit extreme.

The benefit of being a master weaponsmith is that you get 10 experimentation points, instead of just 7 that comes with techniques IV. This allows you to ultimatly craft a better weapon. Being a master doesn't mean that every attempt (or nearly every attempt)at experimention should be perfect. I'm sure the master sword makers of Japan back in the day had to scrap plenty offailed attempts in order to get the one perfect sword.
