#1 a master smuggler does better slices than a slicer, you would be better off getting a smuggler to slice for you than doing it yourself without master smuggler.
#2 weaponsmith is very interesting and involving, its fun when business is good, but can be a drag when things are slow.
Two things you should know:
Weaponsmith is not the gold mine most make it out to be(what I thought when I got started). I've been doing it over a year now and have only recently started making decent money comparable to what my combat charachter makes.
I would say that weaponsmith would be very hard to get started and maintain as an alt, the more time you can put into it(gathering resources, stocking vendors, advertising...), the better your results will be.
#3 there is a collection of links a top fo forum with everything you need to know.
Welcome aboard

I got went after master weaponsmith for my alt. As people have said already its not the gold mine you might think. Its actually a money pit that has comsumed millions of credits so far and hasnt produced a whole lot in sales yet.
Getting resources takes time and you have to make sure they are decent resources or your weapons just wont sale. The grind takes a while also.
Other than all that I find it fun and hope to build up a small clientel(bigger the better I guess). If you know nothing of the crafting in swg you will find that it is a interesting system and actually neat. If you do choose to master weaponsmith and join our ranks remember to have fun.

Don't pick up MWS as an alt if you're looking for sales. Pick it up on an alt if you're looking to make your own weapons. Like the previous posters said, acquiring the older, better spawns consumes millions of credits, not to mention if you want to be competitive, you'll most likely need to findthe skill tapes needed to have the extra 2 points of experimentation.
I picked up MWS on one of my alts (as well as MAS and MChef) just to be able to make things the way *I* and *I* alone wanted them made. I look at my servers smiths and see they put their extra points in range mods or ham cost. Why oh why, would you put them in there I wondered...sales. If a MWS adds condition to the gun, he sells less of them...I, on the other hand, prefer having higher condition because I can use my guns longer. Typical example would be T21's. The ones I make have 1137 condition. The ones everyone else sell have a lil over 1000 but have like 4 less HAM cost. With todays buffs...yeah, I'll go with the extra repair.
It all depends on your play schedule and the money you want to toss into the game.WS isn't the easy money crafting profession, but it can be rewarding nevertheless

I picked up an alt to be a WS since our regular guild WS had retired from the game and we really didnt have a full time dedicated WS. Been a MWS for about 2 months now and I am finding it extremely fun and rewarding. Maybe I am lucky but the resources spawns since I started have been very good for most things. This has allowed my products to be within 1-2 points of damage of the max on each weapon and better in some cases compared to what was available on Kauri before I started. Mostly I provide weapons for my guild but I have 2 vendors that have provided me with a slow but steady income. Yes it is a money sink to start buying harvesters and paying maintenance until you can get into merchant far enough to gain the advantages there but in 2 months since I opened for business I have made up what I invested and almost doubled my total bankroll.

its not a money making profession, but the most enjoyable crafting profession.
We get fun stuff like acklay bones, gorax, spoder fangs, NS energy lance to fiddle around with and these attract every1's attention. When's the last time that a suit of armor or doc buffs created a stir ... never ... but everytime I make a 800+ dmg PH, I cause a commotion
Maybe its the attention ho in me talking, but I love being a WS!

This is all soooooo true. Being a WS is very very expensive both in time and credits. If you don't enjoy the challenge of spending hours to find the best resources you can and then tinkering to build your best weapons, then you probably won't enjoy this.
I am enjoying WS a lot more than I originally thought I would. The reward isn't really money, but the challenge of building cool stuff. Of course, you'll need lots of money to progress in this business. I haven't gotten there yet.
Building a customer base is just as hard as crafting your weapons. You'll have to spend a lot of time trying to make sales. If you know any master merchants, you should make deals with them to sell on an advertised vendor. Put waypoints on stuff you sell on the bazaar. Go where the customers are. And find good prices for your stuff. Hmmm... getting this to work is about as hard as it is in real life. LOL.

thanx for all the help, this is MUCH appreciated, i only did a little crafting once in my SWG gaming career(more than a year now) and i liked crafting, but lacked funds to do it, plus i didnt know u could use macros to help grind xp, and for the money issue now, i have my combat character who can get me a steady income, and using that i can sink it into WS, and i am not in WS for the money, i am in it too have fun, and to try another aspect of this game, since, with everyone doing jedi, or space, i am usually out of luck with finding friends to hunt with. i have already been saving some cash for resources for when i get the account, plus having the 10 new lots for harvestors will be a nice plus, i know i will prolly never be the best WS, prolly not even a good one, but, o well, after reading what u guys said it seems it will be fun and rewarding
PS: can someone explain 2 things for me?
#1 i am a little confused on the whole "+12 WS" idea
#2 what is the best way to get Master WS?
1. A weaponsmith with Skilltapes in clothing getting him/her a total of +20 or more Weapon Experimentation, wich give you two extra experimentation points when crafting. 12 points instead of the standard 10 you get at master, hence the "12 point". Skilltapes can be looted or bought horribly overpriced compared to what you make as a weaponsmith.
2. Get 0020 by doing metal staves or blaster pistol (or was it rifle) barrels, then heavy warhead mechanisms until master. You will need some less common resources for this though (thoranium steel, hydron 3 inert gas, skevon reactive gas)

I love weaponsmith, but it is definately not a money making profession!
I make profit on my sales yes... i would be a million billionaire if i could just crank out the weapons and then they automatically sell... I even have really really really cheap prices...
The fact is, stuff doesnt sell as fast as you think, Resources... sure they cost a lot... but its more of a pain to find them in my opinion!
I've spent in the neighborhood of 40-45 million on weaponsmith... and i've probably made around 10-15 million in sales... so it shows you how good i am...
I balance my love for weaponsmithing with recources selling, i have some 25 or 30 static lot harvestors, and i sell my recources for 2cpu to a guy who sells them for me(for more, but i dont mind, i instantly get the money i need), and more recently i have decided to go into armorsmith also, for the increased clientalle(sp?) that might come to a shop with both weapons and armor made by the same guy! But more beacuse i was bored with combat, and i needed something to spend my money on, i was getting stockpiles of credits with nothing to spend it on...
Depends really... when i first got the game and opened the guide i bought, i knew i wanted to be a crafter... i would suggest, if you did not feel this urge... you do not want to become a crafter, because you do not have the love for it, so you are not willing to lose money on the profession...
