Thread: Proton Carbine is a quest reward. No Schematic, just the weapon
From what I've read, most of the new weapons are quest rewards only.
This would not be bad itself, but considering the stats on many of these weapons outclass what can be crafted, it is a big problem.
So then what if those new looted weapons are only usuable by a specific profession at a specific Combat Level?
I don't think you guys are doomed unless 100% of the Players suddenly decide to drop their existing templates and go with that one specific Profession just for the ability to use that one specific weapon.
Still, even if it does not require a specific Profession to use, it will still have a specific Combat Level and the neat thing about those is, everyone constantly needs a new weapon.
Even still... sure we can use specials with any gun right? But what is the point of a Pistoleer using a Carbine? They're still not a Carbineer... They're going to want Pistols and not Carbines...
So, so what if say... any Profession at CL 54 can use:
FWG5 Pistol
DL44 XT
DE-10 Pistol
Elite Carbine
Proton Rifle
Advanced Laser Rifle
Now add Pistoleer to that; they can use at CL54:
Republic Blaster
DX2 Pistol
Ok so what.
Why should a Pistoleer get excited over a fancy Proton Rifle? What use is a Rifle to a Pistoleer? They have Pistol skills, not Rifle skills... I am not refering to specials.
They're still going to need to come to you to get their new pistols at level 54 made...
You guys still craft the majority of those.
It would seem to me that, you guys have a chance to make a serious profit. Because I am going to be going to a Weaponsmith and looking for the best weapon they have available for my Combat Level... and when I get a new Combat Level and can use a new weapon, then I am going back to a Weaponsmith and again looking for the best one they can make me.
So who here can craft a gun of any type, with the shortest delay that does the most damage?
You? You there in the back? Good, then you got my business.
I'm out there looking for Weaponsmiths, my friends are out there looking for weaponsmiths... and you guys are all sitting in here crying like little babies about a few new guns that you can't craft... that everyone probably won't even get to use.
Ok, wasn't it stated way back when that all crafted items would always be better than looted items?
I don't see it that we're getting killed off, but we are definitely taking one in the pooper here if all the new weapons that we haven't seen yet turn out to be looted ones.
I'll reserve judgement til I see more.
Knuckles of the Katarn, completely outclasses any VK that can be crafted, who knows how many of these weapons are in the pipe.
Its worrisomethat the developers have decided to completely move away from the player based ecomony(one of the major features of SWG) to no economy at all.
This game is slowly changing to a hack and slash game, not very interesting and not something that will keepsubscribers for any length of time.

Well, that's not entirely true since we can Krayt Blaster Fists.

Has anyone hit the cap on those? I find it hard to believe you can make up 100dps and get such a low action cost.
Not the end of the weaponsmith proffession, but it would have been nicer if these weapons were looted limited schematics just like the scythe. That way SOE would promote inter-player cooperation. The fighters do the quest and get ahold of the schematic, they bring it to a weaponsmith that makes them the weapon.
Sadly this was perhaps not easy enough to attract new player to the game.
