Ok, I'm fairly new to this game, but have made friends with a great group of players. I'm working through the marksman tree, trying things out to see what I like. I got pistols4, carbine3, so last night I started working rifles. I wandered around looking for a decent-ish DLT20 to start my training with, as CDEF rifles just soooo blow.

Problem...I check at least 30+ vendors, and the bazaar on Coronet-Corellia and Theed-Naboo. Not one damn DLT20. I think Master Weaponsmiths could stand to stock a couple of these starter rifles made with some decent materials for people that are not new to the game but are new to any given profession and just don't have the cert for higher end rifles.

I got rifles1, so I'm going to try to find a DLT20A or a Tusken Rifle tonight to continue my progression. If there are any weaponsmiths on Shadowfire that could hook a guy up with something, that would be cool

Hm. If you were on Bria I'd get you set up in a second.

I really should whip up a pile of newbie weapons. I think it would help build a solid customer base.

I've actually seriously considered going into this market. There are like three HUGE weaponsmiths on my server. At least one or two more that are very well known and popular, but not quite as bit as the main three. Then, there are some other noteworthy ones out there too.

All of them have completely monopolized the most popular ranged weapon market. I don't fault them for this at all. They put in their time, they worked hard, they have been collecting resources from the begining. But, there's no possible way that I can compete with them.

Thing is, i don't see these weaponsmiths advertising their DLT20 Rifles, D18 Pistols, or DH17 Carbines. They do occasonally advertise the other grinding marksman weapons. But, it seems their main claims to fame are the Scout Blasters, Republic Blasters, DX-2's, Flamethrowers, T21's, and weapons like that. The main most popular ranged weapons.

There are a few good WS's on my server thatmakeweapons grinding marksmen can use, but not many. I was a master ws at one time thinking of going into this business, but I was sick of crafting and needed a break, so i surrendered everything. Now, I'm grinding back up because I've gotten a HUGE crafting itch.

I was thinking of going so far as to make a "marksman pack" to sell. Or in other words, create my 4 fav rifles, 4 fav pistols, and 4 fav carbines to get someone to master marksman, put them all in a pack, and sell them that way. I think that would make it REALLY easy for a lot of grinding marksmen...rather than buying a weapon, using it, going back, buying another. Saves a lot of time and money in travel tickets.

I noticed this on Ahazi too. This arises I think from the fact that I was selling DLT20's at 8K on my vendor and at that was UNDER some of the other smiths. Even tho this is a starter weapon, it usually goes for more than the 6k limit on the bazaar. The ones usually found on the bazaar are also not usually crafted by masters and don't have the stats you might want. Last one I crafted was 223 Max at 4.5 and that was a triffle low but I was in a hurry and did not screen the metal well. Two things

1) On your server do a control-P character search for a Master Weaponsmith, add yet one more tell to all that he is hammered with and ask for his vendor waypoint. Get several. Visit those vendors. Out of a few you'll likely find one with a DLT20.

2) IF YOU ARE ON AHAZI, I have chosen to reduce my price on starter weapons to 6K. The DH17 Carb, the DLT20 rifle, and the scout blaster will be all priced at 6K. The D18 pistol (124 max-1.8)is priced at 3500 to enable a beginning marksman to start missions and begin earning his way up the chain. These will be on my vendor at the Mandaloria PA Shopping MAll Hall,Naboo (4279 4023) and I will put a few out on the bazaar as well. Currently there are a few on the Mos Eisley bazaar (30 Apr 04). My vendor will be restocked this week end.

I want to invite and request all the other Master Weaponsmiths to do something similiar (you too Az & Soar, Shiloh ya listening?).The reason is that the economies on most these servers are deep in the grips of hyper-inflation. A brand new player cannot easily enter the game without the support of a guild in most cases. We can change that by our own good favor by putting starter weapons in their hands that they can get going with.

Thanks for all the replies guys. One thought for the guy selling for 6k, I'm fairly new to the game, but that seems a bit high for a DLT20. I picked up a laser carbine for 11k, so 6k for a novice marksman level weapon? I don't think the market will support that. Not that I'm trying to tell you how to run your business but something along the lines of 2-3k would be what someone could do in a couple missions.

For those offering help, my sincerest thanks. I'm on Shadowfire.

For everyone, keep in mind, not eveyone is an experience player grinding marksman for a holo. Some of us are new (like 2 weeks old here), and know a bit about the game, but are short on resources. I just qual'd for carbine3, picked up a laser carbine for 11k. I now have to my humble name, 1 scout blaster 72/184 1.6 speed that I found for around 6k, 1 laser carbine 49/291 3.5 speed for 11k, 1 dh17 something or other that I used to go up the carbine tree for 1k, a laser rifle gifted to me, a cdef pistol, carbine, and rifle, bone armor and a ubese helmet and boots gifted by a very nice person and 9k in the bank.

There is a market for entry level quality weapons and armor. I'm not talking uber, I'm taking weapons made with midgrade resources most people would consider "grinding material" that produces mid-grade novice and level-1 cert style weapons. Anything that beats a 17/35 4.0 cdef rifle. Also there is a demand for mid-grade entry level armor too. Right now, I'd kill for like a 15%-25% kinetic mabari/chitin suit. Bone armor sucks.

This may not be the most lucrative market out there, but ya know what? If you sell to someone and set them up so they can get some skills, they'll come back with skills, cash, a smile and buy from you again and again as they progress in the game. Plus you could casually hint that you could use some of this or that that they might harvest off creatures, ask them to set up some harvesters on there avliable slots and offer to buy/trade the resources from them, and before you know it you've placed a newbie into the SW universe and made someone that would probably have undying loyalty to you.

Whew, ok thats that from me. But hope some of you consider what I'm saying here.

On my server, prices are a little more settled for the "non-uber" class of weapons...like the ones made by those three huge smiths I was talking about. Why is this? Well, on Naritus, you can't turn around inan even somewhat populated NPC city and not see a Master Weaponsmith. They are EVERYWHERE. Therefore, the market is VERY high in supply, and prices are low. I don't think I'd charge 8K for a DLT20. But, at the same time I've seen docs on Lowca charging 10K for buffs w/out a single complaint. On my server, my doc/cm alt was had a hard time charging more than 5K at times, and my buffs usually hit for at least 1000...usually more like 1200 to 2800+ points per stat.

Different servers= different economy. On Naritus, the weapons you are speaking of probably wouldn't run 8K or even 6K. My guess a DLT20 from me (when I was a master WS) would run 1500 to 3K.

Edit: All that said, I rarely price my weapons based on demand for the weapon. If riflemen like the DLT20 and it's a highly popular weapon, I still sell it for just as much as I would if it was only used by marksman grinders. I use a set formula based on a modified Damager Per Second calculationto calculate prices for my weapons. Then, I'll usually round up to the nearest 500 credits from there. Now, loot item weapons will always sell for more. I can't sell a Krayt gun with that formula. I would lose money on it because of the price of tissues. But, my regular run guns use that formula.

LOL....Im on Wanderhome and am currently carving my "niche" as well. Any novice cert weapons are 3k...if you email or send me a tell. I like the idea of the "marksman" pack as well. You could even do a pistol/carbine/rifle pack to cut down the cost. Good idea.

I also really like the idea of the pistol/rifle/carbine pack. That's a great idea. Have one type of pack for each individial marksman profession and one type that covers all of them.

^^^^

I would start things off by pullin the aBPH from the weapon and just use a regular BPH. Honestly, how long are DLT20's used in the grind process? I've done the master marksman grind now twice (same server, two different accounts). The first weapons (the ones that get you from novice to 1xxx/x1xx/xx1x) are used for all of an hour at max...if that. It's only what...1000 points of exp needed before you can switch to a better weapon?

So, that being the case, I'd probably go ahead and include an aBRB, but leave the aBPH out of it...esp for grinders. For Rifle Specialists or Riflemen, I'd most definitely put the aBPH's in.

Regarding the Niche:

Well I make almost exclusively newbie weapons on Bloodfin.

DLT20's are generally 5.6-5.8 speed and do @110-180 damage.

DH17 carbine @2.9 speed *cant remember damage*

DL44 Pistol 2.4 speed and @ 70-130 damage.

I don't sell the rifle or carbine cheap but after a few missions they'er affordable. The pistols generally sell for about 600 cr.

I'm looking into the viability of low end melee weapons.

Given the choice between style over substance. I'll take a sandwich.
