Good Evening Master Weaponsmiths! To Guild or Not To Guild?
I'm interested to know how the Guilded Life has treated you. What arethe benefits you've gained from being a guild member? What are some of the arrangements you've worked out with guilds?
Or conversely, have any of you found being in a guild to be problematic? What are some of the deals gone sour? Has crafting free weapons for screaming combat-classed guild members ever pissed you off to the brink?
Go...

I would recommend a guild only if you intend to focus most of your time and attention on supplying the guild with weapons. It depends on the size of the guild of course and I'm sure many will disagree but I've found that most guilds expect the benefits of having a weaponsmith (i.e. free/cheap weapons) without contributing anything (i.e. resources!) in return.

I give my guild a 50%-ish discount, most of them give me a shout if I'm online, but they also go elsewhere. that works for me, because I'm a lazy wossname
I joined the guild I'm in because of friends, it's not so much about supplying them, as it is joining in the insane banter in /gu. I've told people a couple of times that I cannot / will not do something because I can't / won't.
PA's are fun if the other members are people you can get along with, but unless you enjoy being the general dogsbody, don't let them control how you play the game.

It depends on the guild I suppose, my lot spend hours in the geo cave for me and we have reasonably regular attempts at looting Krayt tissues (though we've not actually succeeded yet
) I've also had 4 scythe schems out of the guild for free and numerous other looted schems. Though I do a fair bit of looting myself as I've got Master Swords in my template...
In return I provide some ppl with the odd free weapon and I mark stuff down. I'm also pretty honest with them, if I know that they can get something better elsewhere I tell them where to get it from, but I'll have a go at anything (except stun batons, cos I STILL dont' have any of that flaming gemstone).
Guilding has added a huge amount to my gaming experience tbh and if you can get a good guild it can only add to yours.

I provide my guild with free weapons and in return I get most weapon schematics and some loot drops for free.
I also initiated a resource collecting project where our non-crafting guild members place harvesters and collect resources for our crafters, selling them cheap to the guild and then the crafters can buy these for the same price from the guild. I manage the placement of the guild harvesters and look for spots and direct the non-crafters where to place the harvesters.
So in return I can get the HQ resources I need in greater numbers than I will ever be able to collect myself. This is very important with resources that are the best that ever spawned.
Our guild has also set up 3-4 of each factory for free usage by the guild members, which helps me keep my 8 lots (2 for my house) for collecting resources.
Also joining a guild helps a lot in getting a group for those nasty dungeons they set up.
I can only recommend to join a guild.

I like my guild, heh i sell weapons cheap so its not really a problem to get something full price from me and most of the resources i used to pull myself to master i got from guildmates, Also, since im not a master artisan i get help from guildies in the making of the needed power conditioners and other items that i cannot make on my own

Guilds are lame. Nothing but a bunch of drama queens in my experience.

You have to find a good guild. I make free weapons for mine on lowca and in exchange they give me all their weapon related loot to make more with. Of course, I always save some of the loot for myself, gotta make a profit somehow.

just give your guild half off and point them to the vendors when they want something, tell them to offer something back to the vendor, something worthless like 1 resource, for half the cost of the weapon and you buy it to give them the refund, if they dont offer it they dont get the refund. ive been doing this for months with my guild and it works great, were also a small group with only about 15 active members at any given time. they enjoy getting the weapons and do a great job of pointing people to my shop or loaning lots or donating schematics.
all depends on the kind of people you spend your time with, ive found a little niche on chily with a group of friends called NOVA Industries (the Industries part stands for me and another couple crafters, the rest are all combat/pvp types) and when it works its a great thing and really enhances the game, i know i would have quit ages ago ifnot for NOVA

My guild started out with just 4 people in about week 3 or 4 of launch. We didnt really want a guild at first, just the ability to chat together on guildchat, but it grew from there. Now we have 50+ members and we all try to work together.
The wierd thing is, we are one of the oldest guilds that never disbanded/regrouped on the server. Most people don't know this. Most of our crafters give good discounts to members, but each of us has our own policy.
Anyway, I give 50% or more discount on my vendors. Certain weapons I might mark up 300% for an uber slice and usually I will bank tip them a bit more than 50%. I just ask for aforward of the vendor e-mail and then I'll send them the refund. Many people dont e-mail me and I dont sort through my 50+ vendor sales a day to see who is in guild and who isn't. The discount is up to them if they want it
.
-edit-
I forgot to say that normally if I am full on lots (well I'm almost always full) and a new resource hits that I need to get on right away, a guild member usually is able to drop a few of my harvs on it for a week or so. Aside from that I normally purchase most of my resources from miners simply because its easier.

My guild has treated me pretty well, but I was very very careful of what guild I joined. My advice would be to get to know the people in the guild that you are thinking of joining first. You don't need to know everyone, just the main people. I spent about 2 months building my relationship with the guild before joining. Then I joined on my own terms, period. I feel that is very important! You don't join a guild to be their lap dog but to have more fun... this IS a game. Be sure you know what they expect from you and what you expect from them before you join.
Joining a guild can be a lot of fun... if you find one that is right for you. The keys I think are knowing what the people in the guild are like and everyone understanding what you expect from them, and vis versa.

I probably wouldn't play a crafter character without being in a guild. I give members at least a 50% discount on all items. More if they don't have a lot of money or if they have done me a lot of favors.
Obviously, you have to choose a guild with a good group of people. My guildies constantly offer up looted weapon components and schematics on my vendors. There is always enough to supply the members with great weapons and usually enough left over to sell to the public at reagular prices.
