Thread: Managing resources and item space
It is a nightmare to know where which resource is or how much I have.
I have been thinking of having another house (small Naboo house, 1 lot) for storage, but it is another lot that I can't use for harvester/factories. I might use a factory for storage, it is only 100 items but I can at least use it for something else as well. But factories is a pain to sue for storage since you have to stop production to check inventory/get resource (which would mean split crates, however only a problem with things you sell in crates).
Any advice to give? One idea I have is to just keep one stack of each resource in my house and put the rest in other storage like bank, factories. I really want to avoid having to write down every resource I have in which storage. I want a system that makes it easy for me to remember where I have stuff.
I faced a similar problem shortly after I started strip-mining (which I define as dropping a large number of harvesters in a short span to get the most of of a particular spawn in a short time), which netted me 300K of Emif, and 500K of Picami in about a week and drove me past the point of storage hell.
First: I keep my resources in my crafting station. You should too, because it makes it MUCH easier to craft, and only .you. can get them out not even someone else with admin access to the house can do so.
Secondly: What I've started to do is 'type' my resources. A1 are the best of the best, on Ahazi it's things like Weakem, Enopris Link-Steel, Togap Copper, Durogop Copper, Emif, Epoa, Hopees etc. Then you have your second best which is A2. I keep those in my crafting station along with the ones that are middle of the road (B1 types), but fulfill a specific resource need, Polonium Iron, Crism ore, etc. Everything else I either store in a second crafting station which I use for generic quality nuetral goods (smuggling tools etc). This makes crafting faster for me because I'm not sorting through junk I don't need and won't be using. I also keep a small stock of all of the resources I use most often in my factories (10-25K of each) this tends to be stuff like Weakem, Durogop and other resources that are called for in a lot of recipes. It's a pain in the rear to set this all up? But it saves me a TON of time later because I don't need to pull resources every time I start a factory run.
Thirdly: I sorted all of the resources that I have multiple stacks of, and stored the 'extra' in my storehouse. Even when I'm crafting up a storm it takes me a while to go through 100K Emif, so I don't need 400K in my station, ditto with Picami etc. This way I only have to visit my storehouse every now and again and I keep my crafting stock high. This also leaves more room in the house for crates of components. ![]()
I have two factories that I keep all my resources in. All the minerals are in one factory and all the gases and chemicals are in the other. I then keep all my componets in bags in my house. When I want to craft, I write down everything I will need and go get them out of my factories. Also you can stop a factory in the middle of a shift and restart it without getting split crates. I do it all the time.
One thing I saw the other night, but have yet to try, myself...
Keep resources in a vendor. That way, they don't count against the storage total of your building. Price them so high that you wouldn't mourn even if some mean person came and bought them just to deprive you. The vendor I saw had backpacks full of resources and each backpack was priced at 10,000,000 credits (plus the city tax).
I remember hearing, a while ago, about a bug that caused bags stored in vendors to eat their contents. I don't know if that bug has been fixed or not. Even if it hasn't, you could still store the resource-containers individually on the vendor. Not sure if they could be well-organized, that way - remember,I haven't tried this.
Also, this might only be a viable option for merchants. I remember something about non-merchant terminal vendors having the maintenance cost increase according to how high the total of all prices on that vendor is. Don't know if that's changed.
Might be worth a try.
Wow, I didn't even know you could keep resources in your crafting station. I'll have to try that out.
Right now, I feel like I'm overloaded with resources and I'm not even to the point where I want to make actual weapons with good resources to sell yet. I've got three houses- one medium as my personal home (with some resources in the basement, one small generic temporary house where I have grinding materials and I'm grinding up to master, and one house where I'm storing good weapons and good quality resources.
When I get down to one craftinghouse, I will most likely keep a few backpacks on the walls- one for copper & gas, one for iron & steel, and one for everything else. Like I said, I'm not to the point where I'm a serious weaponsmith yet, so I'm not sure how it will work out separating things by resource type, rather than by resource quality.

This is a bad idea for a couple of reasons:
1) Vendor bugginess: Vendors have been buggy before, and will likely be buggy again. The most noted bug currently is having items eaten when retrieving them from the vendor but you being reimbursed the price of the item.
2) Storage issue: Storage space is a problem, but the more people try to 'work around' the issue by using vendors as warehouses the more likely we are to not have the storage limit fixed but to have new restrictions placed on vendors.
3) The highest quality weaponsmithing resources are almost all worth 20+ cpu after they've spawned. So a backpack with even 5 full stacks of resources would be worth 10M, and would in fact be a bargain given later resale of those resources. All it would take is one resource vendor doing it, and you'd be out of materials and he'd turn it all for a tidy profit and what's worse you'd have no grounds to complain.

Just some clarification .. I have an alt character with admin rights to my house, and I have him pull out and put back resources into my crafting stations all the time. You just need the proper crafting tool to access the station.

Storing resources in the crafting station scares the h-e-l-lout of me for some reason, even though logically, it makes a lot of sense. What happens if you accidentally pick up the crafting station which I've been known to do occasionally? Does the contents go poof or stay with the station?
You can't pick it up with resources in it
I had a big storage issue a few weeks ago. But I found that if I went through the tons of different resources I had and ditched the ones that were now sub-par I could free up alot of space. I don't need 5 types of gallorian gemstones. Keeping a 2nd type in case of a "rainy day" is prudent but the others are just a waste of space.
