Finding the schematic number is fairly simple if you understand the scheme that they use to number.

First of all, do not sort your datapad schematics in any way. They must be intact. I think logging out or server reset will put them back in that way, so if you sorted them a day or more ago, don't worry about it. Only worry if you just did it right before trying to find the number.

Secondly, they start at 00 then count up. So your first icon in the upper right is 0, not 1. The count goes from left to right, top to bottom.

Third, only count the number of schematics that you can make on the crafting tool/station. If you have a generic crafting tool, do not count the ones that require a specialized tool. If you only have the special crafting tool, do not count the ones that require a private crafting station unless you plan on staying next to one the entire time.

To clarify that last step which confuses many, though with the way the Weapon tool works, I think it can make everything which makes it a bit harder. Say for example you are a chef and decide to go weaponsmith. Do not count the schematics that require a food & chemical crafting tool. Again though, since the weapon crafting tool is bugged and can make everything, I don't think this is an issue.
