Thread: Logix: Care to address this?
Am I the only one ashamed to be apart of this community right now? I used to actually be proud of the fact that I was a part of the Weaponsmith Community. I always thought we were, for the most part, comprised of mature, levelheaded members from the SWG community. That’s all changed now. It seems like we've evolved into nothing more than any other pre-teen, weapon toting class, full of name callers and finger pointers. Personally, I wouldn't want any part of any coupe. Especially when it’s led by someone who was somewhere they weren’t supposed to be then shot their mouth off about it without knowing the entire story. In my mind that sums his integrity and character up right there.
I’m not one to post often on this board so I doubt anything I say will have any influence in this or any other issue. That’s not my intent. I would, however, hope that some people would step back and think about what they are saying and what they are doing. It always seems like people’s ugly side comes out when they can sit comfortably behind a monitor in their home, especially when there is no fear of consequences. Just try to remember that at the end of the day this all comes down to one thing and one thing only, it’s a game. You can shoot the “I pay my 15 dollars a month!” argument at me all you want but if your 15 dollars, or however much it is, is so important to you that you have to get every penny’s worth then chances are you shouldn’t be spending it on an online game. Have some fun and stop being so serious about something that’s been blown out of proportion. Do you really think the Devs are going to ban/reprimand anyone just because another Correspondent is saying we’re duping? The point is, as someone already said, pick and choose your battles otherwise you’re going to spread yourself thin and then you won’t get anything done.
Why? Don't you think the devs just maybe might know the difference between duping and what was done? Or they may have an idea that the jedi correspondent has little knowledge of weaponsmithing and is therefore unfit to determine what is and isn't cheating by a WS? Maybe a few might even be a bit perturbed by a correspondent making false accusations about something they have no business bothering the devs with? I realize the devs aren't perfect, nobody is. They have made mistakes in game development, but a lot of what they've done has helped bring the game from what it was when it started to what it is today. There have been backward steps, but the forward steps outnumber them. The devs are smart people. I don't think they will be swayed by unfounded accusations of duping by, once again, somebody who obviously doesn't know what they are talking about.
Oh, and to all those whining about the FWG5s.....
Get over it. You tried to cheat the system and you lost. The devs said they were nerfing the guns. You "had the foresight" to make a lot more before then. Too bad you lacked the foresight to see that maybe, just maybe, SOE wanted those old guns out of the game. There was a reason that they changed the guns, and that same reason is behind them not wanting them around long after the change. If you didn't see the risk in your venture beforehand, this foresight of yours you seem to be so high on was a little short of what you thought it was. If you can't handle it, quit. Do you think SWG will care? I'm sure they will be crushed that somebody who willingly tried to cheat by keeping some old guns (which they wanted out of their game) around far longer than they intended them to be there doesn't want to play their game anymore because they decided to finally remove these guns from their game. Face it, this is their game, their rules. You either play by them or you leave. Our correspondent can't change that, neither can anyone else's. if you're going to be like this every time they change something that affects you, I'm sure they'd rather you left. The game is a work in progress, and if you aren't willing to adapt to new circumstances you will find that it hard to play.

Ikour
actually they do care and here is thunderhearts post from the other thread.
I know this is an important issue and I've been trying to work through this with Logix. Here is the straight story: The old FWG5's, scatter pistol and launcher pistol had a schematic with two power supplies. In the process of laying the groundwork for the weapons portion of the combat balance, we did some low level work on the crafting schematics.
Lets take a quick look at factory crates before I move to the next step. Factory crates arent actually "full". Its an object that counts how many objects are in it. When you pull an item out of a crate it basically does an "insta-craft" on the spot.
So now that we've made some low level changes to crafting schematics, what is happening is those over-powered guns (which are game breaking to the game after the combat balance goes done)is those old schematics simply dont exist anymore, so when you try to pull one out of a crate and it tries to "insta-craft" the item, the schematic doesnt exist - - which is why you are getting that system message.
The old versions of these guns can no longer be crafted, but there are some old crates that players have hung on to. These "legacy weapons" are the ones that are having problems because the schematic no longer exists.
We are having a meeting early next week to address how we can handle this because we dont want anyone stuck with a busted crate.

i am appalled that logix let the jedi corespondent get away with accusing us of cheating. its ridiculous to allow that to happen. its a very serrious charge to level at someone, especially when the one bringing the charges doesnt understand what he is talking about (need i remind us all of congress's "Golden Fleece Award"?).

As I said before, Correspondent Discussion is not a place for me to argue semantics or attack a fellow Correspondent in regards to his choice of words on a particular issue.
Ok, and what forum is a place to attack anyone? No forum! No one is saying you should attack a "fellow correspondent" or argue sematics. What people are saying is you should politely correct that person and explain how things really are instead of allowing them to slander this community on that forum. What words you use are important. Words have meanings and those meanings convey ideas. If someone says something that is wrong they should bekindly corrected regardless of what forum it is in. The words that correspendent chose to use were wrong and show that person did not understand what they were talking about.
We have posters calling this an exploit in other forums. We have members of the Weaponsmith community calling this an exploit inour forums. Unfortunately, we do not have anyconfirmation that it's not an exploit. I cannot defend this feature as perfectly legitimate to you, to the community, to another Correspondent, to anyone else until I have been told it is perfectly legitimate.
It may or may not be an exploit. So far we don't know. You could have pointed that fact out to this person. You could have used that as a way ofbringing the issue to the devs and asked them for an answer. You could have used that to help the community in getting an answer. Instead you did what? nothing.
If you don't want to defend the practice fine. Defend the good name of this community. Many respectable smiths do that but if we are told/believe it is an exploit then it will stop.
On the bright side, one of the staff members just posted a few minutes ago noting that he was trying to get a word on the issue.
Great news! I can't wait to hear the answer!

Monroe, would you please explain to me how getting into a name calling, childish squabble over what a corespondent from another profession will do to help us? If Logix went and said all Jedi suck, and are just afk macro'ers, how many Jedi do you think would take him seriously? If some dumass non-weaponsmith wants to call me an exploiter, why should I care? He's doing nothing but exposing his ignorance to the profession, and I wouldn't have to defend myself to anyone who knew anything about the profession.
---logix- if you dont want to stick up for the weaponsmith community by simply replying to arjun's post by saying, "this is not duping, it seems to be an intended feature" or "we are not sure its been classified as duping yet since the devs have not rendered a ruling, but for the time being it is not duping to utilize a game feature like the schematic". ---
And if the Jedi corr. gave a reply, and Logix gave another reply, etc, etc, this would again make us look bad. Its not defending us, its getting into an unnecessary argument for us. What any other corespondent has to say about us as a community, doesn't matter in the least. Each corespondent needs to focus on THEIR profession and forum, and not waste timeon others. This is redundant. Logix, I commend you for not sinking to Arjun's post, and not wasting the Dev's time with a senseless debate.
