Thread: Weaponsmith ethics question from a customer
I think it's rather funny that the WS in this case refused to "pay those rediculous prices" to replace the scopes. I wonder how much extra he marked up the weapons he crafted with the scopes?

hmm, this is interesting. I think its a mis communication between client and crafter.
I crafted full time for about 1.5 years (i.e. I think i went to 3-4 planets during those 1.5 years), then took some time off, and restarted on a very part time basis only for very high end weapons. i try not to accept custom crafts anymore because of the need to keep track of what is made, where the parts are etc. (i am cursed with full inventory problems lol!). however, where i do take parts,i make the weapon then usually throw it in a factory for them to pick up unless they are nearby. Some regular customers provide me with all their bh loot because they don't need credits and simply want a high end weaponsmith to provide them with whatever weapons they wish on a priority basis at no cost.
I assume that I am dealing with sophisticated clients. they request specific weapons, with specific stats usually. If i had to give a number, i'd assume that 95% of the people I deal with know exactly what is needed in the weapons they request. I assume the material they drop off is for the weapon and the additional (and it could be anything. ..and i really mean anything to do with weaponsmithing...sometimes cubes, sometimes casings, etc. material irrelevant to their weapon, sometimes cells, sometimes accuracy scopes) are meant as payment.sometimes they are so happy at getting the weapon they provide a tip, sometimes they are happy at getting the weapon and they don't provide a tip. Sometimes people ask me about custom crafts and i say whatever u think is fair is fine with me. thats my favorite line as you are guaranteed a happy customer. I don't craft for a profit, i craft because I love it. sometimes we talk about parts sometimes we talk about credits. I have never had a single complaint that i can ever recall, and Ive made a lot of weapons for a lot of people over the years. When we still had crit fails, if i critted on krayt, i always felt so bad i replaced the tissue for free without telling the customers. That included replacing the tissues for a krayt t21 (at a cost of many millions for 11 identical tissues), for a 100k job heh!. Those were the fun days. All I'm saying is I don't know if I would have automatically assumed that scopes, even high accuracy ones (these are not 60+),dropped off weren't payment for a high end custom craft. I often get old customers, and even people whos names i don't recognize dropping off bags of parts saying they dont' want any of it and to keep what is good and delete what isn't. I don't think the fact that the thread's crafter initially kept the scopesmeant he was dishonest. I think where the problemlies is in the follow up...i.e. when the customer talked to the crafter and the crafter realized there was a problem. anyway, just my opinion.
I have many regular customers that I have similar deals with... they drop of whatever WS loot they want to and I craft all their weapons for free, whenever they need it... I have yet to charge someone for jsut assembling a weapon if they provide all the components/enhancers. If they want to tip me or give me extra stuff that is their perogative. If I were charging people 1 million credits for a few minutes of my time and a few hundred reources... I would definatly not expect anything else.

I had some custom weapons made a few days ago, I provided the powercells, barrels and pre-nerf scopes for the rifles, and paid 1 mil per for assembly. The rifles turned out wonderfully, however, not being a weaponsmith, I had no idea that all the components that I dropped off were required for my rifles. I asked the weaponsmith about this today ( first time I have been able to get ahold of him) and he informed me that he was unaware I wanted my +56 and +44 accuracy scope stacks back, and had used them in other weapons.
My question is this, As a customer, and not knowing the ins and outs of the items and quantities required for crafting the weapons I have custom built, should the WS have let me know that not all the items were required? Or should I make it a point in the future to ask exactly what items I need to provide to get my weapons built?
Just wanting an opinion or two on this, as I really feel as if I was cheated.
Thanks

Assuming positive confirmation from Elorha, I'd like to say well done. We all benefit when people work to resolve their differences.
After I read through all your posts I tended to agree that there was a certain level of miscommunication between the Herb'ztar and yourself. I do think it should have been arranged ahead of time that if there were left over components that it should either be part of the payment, purchased by Herb'ztar, or given back to you. That being said it is really the responsibility of the crafter to inform the customer that there will be remaining ingredients for a custom order, and how that should be dealt with before proceeding with the work. The analogy I would use is going to a mechanic to have him work on your car - it is his/her responsibilty to inform you of issues based on their level of skill, knowledge, and ethics. "Buyer Beware" is an unfair and an unethical response in this situation.
In addition, if I had a client that after the fact asked me about left over components that I had used for another weapon I would either compensate the client or replace the components with an equal level component.
However, what really bothered me about this whole situation is that you said that his response to you was, "sry but i´m not paying these insane prices ppl want on the forums...if i find some ingame i´ll give u a call".
That is a load of bunk!! I happened to have been bidding on some Pre-nerf +50 ACC scopes that last couple of days and Herb'ztar was bidding actively and won one of the auctions. Therefore, he is clearly a liar, and in fact can and should provide you with comparable replacements for the scopes. Here are links to both of the auctions:
