Thread: Idea to diversify Weaponsmiths
Excellent idea. I hope this gets taken seriously, sounds like it would work out great.
Though I think it is quite a nice idea, I feel that it won't work.
The reason being is this: Not everyone who plays the game wants to do battle. In fact, some want to never battle in the entire career. To put in a system like this, Joe Weaponsmith who is also Joe Tailor and Maybe Joe Dancer (and who doesn't WANT or have the points to train in fighting) is forced to have subpar weapons just because fighting isn't what he enjoys.
Now I admit, it would be quite a nice perk, but for poor Joe its just not fair.
Great idea.
The weapons wouldn't be subpar, they would just be normal. A weaponsmith who never EVER wanted to do battle would still be able to crank out great weapons, but they would fall just short of somebody who specialized in a particular weapon. Specialization is good, it keeps the market from being monopolized completely, and adds a little variety to an already cookie cutter profession.
I like it but it seems it would be difficult to impliment and unfair to non-combat crafters.
Instead there could be some "Specialized" schematics for Masters. For example, a master rifleman would have a schematic for say, a Rifleman's powerhandler, or a new optional component like a frame. So that way instead of granting points for knowlege, you get the ability to makeeither exeptional parts or specialized parts. This way, other professions could be included.People who dont want to craft can still benifit from this since the partsthemselves could be sold.
DEAR LORD! An even better idea, Logical connections betweenprofessions! So a tailor/dancer wouldhave extraclothing for dancers!Alternatly aRifleman/Tailor would havemore things suited torifleman, soEVERYONE would end upwith diffrent lists! THINKABOUT IT!A master Tailor/Master Marksman/Master Artisan wouldgetnew clothesformarksman and artisans!Nowthere has tobe a bonus for non-coms right? Welllemmie think.... A Master(Tailor/Architect/Droid Engineer) could have, forthe tailor, clothing that would bebenifical to architects andDE's,so in RP terms the clothing is more suited for that role so you incur a bonus to your arch or DE skills (I.E. more pockets for tools and such). for the arch aspect....new modules for crafting stations and factories? Although for a fighting profession it couldhave things like(some people may not like this) animal skins and such to be placed on floors, I'd want thems in my PA's hall. Back on topic to the DE, modules to better accomidate repair and such.
Some of these could even be put into specializations just for those who dont want a mastery.
A foreseeable problem is that, how can it be put in and shown without confuzing people who dont read the manual or notes? The easiest way to put this in is to have the schematics givien to you when you make the mastery, so every master rifleman would have the specialized schematic, this would throw some people off. If you just have them floating in limbo without being shown on the skilltree, it might acually be a nice surprise, now that i think of it, that would be fine just to unlock them.
So, instead of making WC's better, this would make all crafters better, a ranger/arch could make a sweet camp, sry, off topic again. If the dev's think maybe some all-com's might not like this they could add like a rifle body-shot for pistoleer/rifleman, but i really dont think it would be needed since the better weapons that would come out would prolly make them happy.
Tell me if i made sence, and tell me if you like it!
You could probably work synergies w/ all the novice professions at least, although I think this should only be reserved for those who master at least one of the professions.
I'd much rather see this specialization pursued some other way - like maybe make UXP a separate pool and give a separate set of 'UXP' skill points that can be applied past master - only give you enough to specialize in one field.
Anything.. I just don't like the idea of HAVING to go out and fight if I don't want to, just to be able to make comparable stuff to other weaponsmiths.
I think the idea itself is sound I just don't like the execution.
this works well for me (although hinders me as a fighter).
Personally, I'd also like to see the ability to customize the stuff you
make, change the colors, add a "makers mark" any of that stuff that
was "promised" but I haven't seen yet.
(Yes, you can provide colors on clothes, and change the appearance
of one barrel I've seen, but the possibilties are so limited
you can't really get anything that looks unique).
For those of you concerned that ws/fighters would make better weapons than just weaponsmiths, well, maybe the dev's could write some fun code to make it that the experimention only effects the final gun, not the components. You could make components and sell them to weaponsmiths that specialize in fighting profession.
