Thread: Disgruntled Weaponsmiths Thread
There are other guys who say "Make ma a really uber laser carbine" and those people are sort of like the ones in my first example, but they seem a little more knowing of what they want.
THen there are those who say "Make me a really good laser carbine, I have two krayt tissues, how much is it going to cost me?"
THen there are those who say "I have 4 Krayt Tissues, a High Calibur Blaster Rifle barrel, Form fitted stock, can you make me a Krayt Lasercarbine using an advanced scope?"
Each of these customers can be rated with a degree of difficulty, with number one bing a difficulty of 10, very difficult to help, and number four being a difficulty of one, very easy to help. Of course there are various other types of people who play the game who fall inbetween. I find most of my degree one customers are those whom I know very well, have been playing the game a long time, have received Tuckiees Weaponcrafting for the COmbat Type class.
The person of the firsttime can be of many different personalities, its knowing how to reach them and explain how things work making them understand that they dont have any clout. THe demanding ones should have no pull in what you decide, those are the ones I ignore. I understand what you mean, but the statement made was more a blanket statement to anyone who asks questions, it wasnt singled out to the really annoying people who send you 20 tells before you are onscreen the second you log on with the last message saying "screw you I'm going to "names a smith" because you are ignoring me"
as was stated a few times in this thread, those are the peole you dont want to deal with anyway, and I find 90% of the time they go back on their threat and want help, but I no longer have time to help them. If they want me to make a special order I will make it for them but they are last in line, but most of the time I jsut send them to my vendor and they can buy what they want.
We choose who we want to business with, I am not trying to argue with anyone here, if I seem that way point me out and I'll shut my big furry trap.
I think you have it precisely backwards. People don't dupe or Ebay because prices are too high, prices are too high because people dupe and buy cheap credits on Ebay. To these people money is no object, so they are willing to bid/pay any amount ofcredits to get the uber item. Of course this feeds an inflationary cycle, and yes the cheaters will tend to benefit the most, but it really is out of our control. These people will dupe/Ebay whether we charge high prices for weapons or not. Only SOE can get rid of dupers and Ebayers.

I would rather the loot items were something the weaponsmith bought from the adventurers, created items and sold them to the public. As it is now, everything is custom work for one person.

Please makeall looted schematics normal 1000 use, so the weaponsmith can enjoy making them and benefit from them.
I thought you could use one schematic use to make a 1000 use factory schematic ?
Note : they are a lot of "'use" in this sentence.
Note 2: I am not a weaponsmith..maybe I am wrong and missunderstood what my WS friend told me.
1. make a schematic worth of weapons for a customer and charge them market value for each weapon.
2. offer some type of deal, where you keep some uses and use some for the customer. I don't think make 1 keep the rest is really all that fair, I think something more like 25/75 or 50/50 is a bit more reasonable.
3. buy the schematics and just sell the weapons and hope you profit.

This is a pretty intesting thread. It would seem to me weaponsmiths have the following options.
1. make a schematic worth of weapons for a customer and charge them market value for each weapon.
2. offer some type of deal, where you keep some uses and use some for the customer. I don't think make 1 keep the rest is really all that fair, I think something more like 25/75 or 50/50 is a bit more reasonable.

I think most weaponsmiths who aren't part of a guild supplying free or cheap weapons to their guildmates would prefer Option 3.
Unfortunately, most players want the weapon themselves and dont want to sell it to the weaponsmith.
Ive been toying around lately with the idea of figuring out how much I would charge for a weapon if I bought the schematic and all components and put it together myself, and then when someone brought me the schematic and components they looted, I would just subtract the cost of the components from what I would normally sell the weapon for and charging what I would profit if I bought and made everything myself.
Only problem is, people won't understand why I'm charging them 1 million credits to make a berserker rifle when they are supplying the schematic and barrel.
There's just no good solution to the current loot schematic problem.
Option 2 makes everyone happy. The guy gets the item he worked hard for, the guy who makes the item doesn't feel like a manual crafting station.
If people persist in option 1, and don't want to pay market price per weapon, turn them down. Convice your fellow smiths to turn them down. It may drive some business down, but when you have a guy that knows you'll go 50/50 on each schematic/loot resources set you bring him, he will be back. You can gurantee it. And if he sells a couple? So what? Let him sell 5 and you sell 5. He put in some time and effort too, don't forget that either. Smiths do work, but so do fighters. Both make tradeoffs.
see the reason people want all three is not greed, if the person takes the time to acquire the schematic they should be entitled to all three, providing they pay for it, would you want to spend 2 hours getting a scythe schematic, and 2 more hours fighting geonosians for the sword core schematic and the power cubes, only to get a speed slice? or a really crappy damage slice? cause i sure wouldn't, they want all three so they're sure they get a good slice on the mod they wanted(damge or speed), but i see where the weaponsmiths are coming from here but i mean you gotta understand where the people who bring you the schematics are coming from too........
just my 2 cents, feel free to flame me
Its not hard for a smith to buy the schematics and stuff, Just advertise your buying them. people have these things sitting around. Specially the people who have no use for it (swordsman with a dxr6 schematic etc).
If a person wants weapons made with his schematic then charge him accordingly. Its just like making a custom t21 or whatnot, cept your using customer supplied items (liek krayt weapons etc).
I've never been a big fan of the looted schems. They just don't make any damn sense to me. If a featherweight FWG5 is so superior to the standard gun then why would anyone manufacture it anymore. It appears that they're treatiing technology like magic because combat characters want the "phat lewts".
I have no issue with enhancements, they make sense in the big pictire but the looted schematics bother me. If they had establised it as a crafter certification(ie you gain the cert and then can mass produce the weapon in question) I probably would have been happier. Yes it would definately have given people an edge but in time the weapons would be out there and the "standard issue weapon" would be something that people understood. I would have also prefered an augmentation system which would present the opportunity to adjust basic weapons...( I know there are a few items like this in game but this idea should have been expanded)
My concern is that there appears to be a disconnect between the dev team thats bringing us looted schems and the team that handles the basic weapon issues. Basic weapons are starting to become irrelavent to some people. This issue also kind of slams the new smiths who allready have difficulty competing with legacy items and really lack the resources to buy the materials necessary for the special schems. (thats my glass half-empty view of the situation)
As for the ebayers: Well when I read a weaponsmith proudly boast that he's charging 50cpu for his weapons I can see why some people might feel it necessary to have a few extra credits when they play. I know that not everyone is like this. In fact I've seen weapon prices drop since I started playing at when it went live. It's understandable that there is always going to be an inflationary bubble for the next big thing (like mounts selling for 250k when they first came out) Since weapons are something that generally everyone uses the bubble has lasted quite some time but prices are stabilizing. Unfortunately SWG has the huge problem of having an economy with way too much cash. The money sinks in this game are a joke and I hate the idea having them in the first place but there has to be a cost to drive the value of the credit back up to where it should be.
I find the idea of limited use schematics and other "loot" items in a SW game completely short sighted and unimagitive. SW is not a fantasy environment, it is science fiction based around technology. Only 0.000001% of the universe have "magical" abilities. Everyone else use technology.
Here is what I would like to see:
- Looted schematics can stay, but once they are aquired, they are learned perminately. This gives some merit to being a veteran weaponsmith. A schematic is a schematic, it is not that hard to take the prints down to kinkos and run off 80 billion more copies of it. This is not a fantasy environment where the magically disappears after you use it 1-5 times.
- All looted components, like the genosian power cores, nightsister vibro motors, etc, should have a schematic OR the smiths need to have a "reverse engineer" ability where they can attempt to reproduce the component. When it comes down to it, some of the components are rediculiously hard to get for ALL gamers.
- The best weapons/armor/etc. should be crafted. In modern society, people do not go to Africa and kill elephants for "weapon enhancers", they go to a gunsmith. The best weapons/armor/etc are made by CRAFTERS and do not contain stupidly rare resources. The main difference between high and low quality is the precision of which the components are made AND which materialsare used, not how much elephant tissue (krayt) is used.
The DEVs need to get over the "if it's good, it must be rare" mentality. Once again, this is a science fiction universe based of technology, not a fantasy universe based of magic. If you don't want items to be abundant in the game, do not put them in it.
