Oh other question, can you tell if you got a Weaponsmith buff? Does it show x% experimentation etc.?
For your first question:The entertainer has to target you and write /inspire, then thye have to choose the buff they wish to apply from a list. Doing this without third party programs is impossible.
for your second question:
You can see it once it is applied. its under your name like the old entertainer buff with time, and what it does in the description.
When gaining it there is a small fly text above your head first stating what buff it is and then saying +10 each time the buff gets longer. its very hard to figure out actually and Im looking forward to the changes on TC where you should be able to see the buff at once like you could with the old buffs
Thing is it IS possible in game with no thirs party crap at all. All they have to do is have their auto join macro going and when they are in a group the macro targets the person in the group (the weaponsmith) and it is easy to have a line of /inspire; in the macro so that shoots down the idea that its an exploit.

If you have /inspire in the macro it produces a pop-up box that needs someone ATK to click it. If you had "/inspire weaponsmith" in the macro it would merely try to find a player called weaponsmith.
If you've been getting a buff from an AFK musician you haven't been getting the WS one, you've been getting the normal one. It can't be applied AFK. If someone is doing it AFK they are using third-party software, and that is exploiting.
Until I ground my Jedi's second slot up to Novice Musician I really hated this but now Isorta like it, lol. I make 35% powerups and my weapons get a nice boost. My novice musician canbuff myweaponsmith for almost two hours. I'm planning to AFK grind up to master musician.
I can tell you that during the hours I've watched my musician inacantina group I've only seen one crafter (a shipwright)get a buff. An armorsmith came in begging me for a buff before I hit Novice Musician but I was too low level to provide it and was AFK at the time anyway. The armorsmith was AFK by the time I returned and eventually LD'd in the cantina. That armorsmith certainly must not have enjoyed her game play experience that day. Most crafters probably walk into a cantina, see all the AFK tags and walk out in disgust without even asking for a buff. Still, I don't think there are enough crafters around to keep ATK musicians busy.
Entertainerscan apparently be ATK for hours without saying a word in group chat or doing anything but watch their toon dance or play music. The only topics of conversation are about the highest song a new group member can play, when someone isabout to goAFK, someone giving a hug and technical things about writing macros. When someone asks about something different like "Where did you get those instruments you're playing, I only have a slitherhorn" the whole group answers, euphoric about something interesting happening, followed by lengthy hugs and kisses. There are only two cantinas on my serverthat usually haveATK entertainers, Theed and Mos Eisley. Coronet occasionally has ATK entertainers but the city is becoming a ghost town surrounded by a dense layer of deserted houses and the cantina is increasingly empty too. My weaponsmith got a buff at Mining Outpost once but I think that was a lucky break as it is usually AFK only there.
With so few crafters to buff and so little content in the entertainer field I don't see much hopeof finding ATK musicians. Grinding my own musician is the only solution that works for me. I don't think searching for an ATK musician is a pleasant experience. The new system appears to me to hurt crafters far more than it helps entertainers. My workaround gives me an advantage over those crafters who can't find a buff but I don't think the new system is good for the game.

I was pleasantly surprised to find 8 (yes 8!) at the keyboard musicians in Theed last night. Most of them were giving some kind of group performance, but one master musician walked over to me and asked if I needed a buff (even though my tag says "Infiltrator" as I got sick of "can you make me a gun" tells). I got a three and a half hour buff and was on my way back to my shop in about 5 minutes.
This is in sharp contrast to two nights ago when there were *no* ATK musicians in the entire galaxy. I still kind of feel that my crafting is being held hostage to buff availability. I am also having flashbacks of pre-CU hunting trips when we could not get a mind buff before heading out... The best part of the CU was the elimination of buffs. Now buffs are back and they STILL suck major quantities of @ss.

These buffs are totally stupid, i dont even bother with them. I did however like the idea with the help in assembly. Less chance for mod and crtical failures. That would be helpful. The rest are junk.
Critical assembly failures were removed a long time ago.

I love the buff, but I hate getting a buff... you know what I mean?

What have you tried?
- Various things.
What differences have you noticed, if any?
- Small ones. A point here and there.
Do you like it?
Yes.
What level of help do you believe this offers?
The main reason for these new buffs is to make Entertainer/Dancer/Musician a viable proffession, since their old buffs were removed a while ago. For their side these buffs are great since they can't be AFK applied.
For us WS I think it's a nice little quirk really. As people have stated the differance in final weapons is not that big, just a few points. Those WS that really want the best, will bother to get the buff before crafting, those that feel a few points is no big deal might just get the buff before crafting a special lootmade weapon.
In what ways do you see this as negative? a positive?
On the negative side it is a bother to have to find a Musician that is not afk, but then again, everything that promotes the necessity for different proffessions to work together is great. That's the beauty of SWG - crafters need other crafters to make subcomponents, entertainers for buffs, etc. More teamwork and interaction, yay!
What have you tried?
lots of things. making components, weapons etc.
What differences have you noticed, if any?
ALOT OF CRITICAL FAILURES AND FAILURES.
Do you like it?
NO. They are pure garbage, 100%. not worth my time and effort to go hunt down and find a person who can even apply the weaponsmith buff.
What level of help do you believe this offers?
none.
In what ways do you see this as negative? a positive?
Buff is no good. 100% Negative. No benefit what so ever. Nothing positive.
Critical Fails and Fails on a very frequent basis while having the weaponsmith specific buff is not acceptable. I dont get them normally, why should I get so many when I have a buff that is supposed to improve things.
