Thread: The CU makes Baby Jesus cry
Shorter statements first:
"I think if any of you bothered to look beyond the cdefs, you'd see that the FWG-5 does 700 points of damage? "
Did you also see where you get the cert for it and what kind of damage it does? No more FWG5 on my smuggler ![]()

Rather than hearing complaints about how weapons got"nerfed" and "suck" now, which is irrelevant since everything else including player hp totals, armor mitigation, special attack costs, and so on got changed too......I'd much rather see someone who has time totry it outon TC post an overview of how weapon experimentation has changed to work with the new system.
I'm committed to having to reprototype every single weapon I have a draft schematic for once the CU goes live, and I'll probably end up throwing out a portion of what's on my vendors now because the conversion results in undesireable stats. OMG, the devs hate me. Why am I getting nerfed?! I don't even DO combat.......oh wait, that's the same thing that happens when a newer, better resource spawns, like the crazy plumbum that naritus got a month ago.
Change happens. Deal with it.
I for one am looking forward to having combat being more balanced. Even though it doesn't affect my gameplay personally, FotM profession templates, everyone and their brother getting buffs andsoloing krayt dragons and kimogilas, and half of my draft schematics being worthless on the market except as curiosities kinda annoyed me. I want to play in a balanced game where everything has a purpose and a place and actually gets used. You know, diversity. So if that takes some nerfing to do, bring on the nerf bat. It's long overdue.
It's a bit tough to test out weapon experimentation, assembly, etc because there are no elite classes yet. You can make CDEF's but that's about it. That hardly tells us anything about what kind of options, changes, potential we'll have with the actual weaponsmith class.
I agree, it's a hassle when a new better resource spawns, but it's fun sometimes. This is why I'm a weaponsmith, to have fun. The reason I'm concerned so much about the CU is because I DO FIGHT CONSTANTLY. The way I keep my costs down is I go find my own geo loot, I kill my own dragons, I tank the gorax, and I do what I need to to make some of the best weapons out there... and good friends too
Ah, I forgot to talk about this sort of thing.

*ahem* I'm not saying "the sky is falling", I'm saying "if this is added, I quit". There is a bit of a difference between these two. Chances are, if multiple people (oh... 90% or more people I have talked to as of yet) hate a game-shattering change, then there is likely something fundamentally wrong with it.
Also, what we are seeing on the TC is a first impression with what they have been claiming to be changes that we need. When you go to an interview when you are seeking employment, do you walk in wearing a t-shirt with a pizza stain, shorts that were previously pants, but you ripped the bottom halfs off of them, sandals, and a puka shell necklace? Do you talk to them in your in-crowd's vernacular? Hell no, you put on a suit, you get dressed up nice, you speak in formal language, and you make it at least LOOK like you are a good candidate. The CU is worse than the kid in the t-shirt... it's the retarded kid that cant help but druel all over himself. This is my first impressions of the CU, and first impressions mean ALOT.
Comparing a BETA test to an interview is a poor analogy. In my view, first impressions in beta tests don't mean squat. Things change, bugs get worked out. The devs have already stated that lots of things need to be rebalanced still. You make it sound like you expect the beta test to be perfectly polished from the get go.
Think of it this way: you don't walk into an interview cold turkey. You do your research on the company and position you're applying for, you polish up your resume, tailor your cover letter for the position, do practice interviews, etc. Most people going into an interview cold turkey, even if they have a nice suit, aren't going to get the job.

In my experience, BETAS are showing you exactly how things are going to be. They might make minor tweaks here and there, but it doesnt change how a game plays, the ui, and functionality. The only major things that you'll likely see changed in the CU beta is add or a remove a mod here or there. They have done all their primary modifying in the alpha test. If you think that one day you're going to login to TC and see everything different, think again. My problems with the CU are based on the gameplay mainly, and the gameplay is what they are showing us. They're not going to take out their 2 command max style setup and readd the command queue.
Btw, I doubt you knowing the company's yearly growth in stock will get you the job over the guy who's 10x more qualified than you.
RSQViper wrote:On top of all this, let's not forget one thing... Frog weapons do and have ALWAYS sucked!!!Don't look at these weapons and think "this is as good as they get". HAHA! I remember getting a flamer out of a frog and an LLC. Together their maxes added up to 550 for crying out loud.Once you get to making the weapons you will know, not now. Uh uh.AS for that, devs... put the just below the best weapons INTO the frogs. Why? Because that is what will be on live and testing without them is not wise. It will make us think we are underpowered, you will adjust, and it will be out of whack agian.THIS IS IMPORTANT. PLEASE ADJUST.
Best player crafted CDEF is 63-64 max dam. Frog gives you 62
Tell me, on any server, at any time, when you have seen a 500+ Max Damage Tangle Pistol?
Or, the 580 max dam 2.2 speed DXR Carbine I picked up from the frog.
Whatever may have been in the past is not true now. Not by a long shot.
Anyone who continues to produce weapons at this time is a fool.

spending months doing corvette and elder runs and spending 50mil on fire and poison weapons what do i have to show for it
What you'll have to show for it, is a really sweet weapon with no DoT. I can't find the post again, but there was a dev post regarding weapon conversion that said they would take into account both overall strength and type of a dot when converting our weapons to direct damage.
I've got high hopes for my mindfire DXR6b and one of my Lasers.

I cant believe this... I feel so ripped off of my time and money. I'm a weaponsmith over on kauri as some of you may know, and what I'm seeing does nothing but piss me off. Not only did they manage to nerf almost every weapon, all at once, they put all the weapons on a bell curve. Low level weapons will hit like CDEFs where high level master box weapons will hit for around 2x how it was before. I dont know how they've changed condition yet, but consider this: All weapons I've used so far have 3k cond. DXR6bs, worthless, Berserkers, worthless, T21s, worthless, SG82s, worthless, Jawa Ion Rifles, worthless. That's just higher end rifles that you're likely using right now.A breakdown of some of the rifle changes, and the stats from TC:T21s - Energy2975 Cond437-875 @ 2.5Accuracy Bonus: 0Wound: 2.4%Range: 0-65mSpecial Skills Cost: 102Estimated Base DPS: 262.4/secEtc...Well boys and girls, I wouldnt say I didnt see this comming, but it happened. Geo pistols got *NERFED*. They only do energy damage... they're quicker than most weapons, but they are sub-par compared to other weapons. Oh, and forget the idea of the CU making things easier to understand and adapt to. The learning curve is like a stab to the abdomen. Not quite as bad as EVE online, but it's getting there. It doesnt help no one has any armor, and we cant make any, so we dont know how that's going to play out, but honestly, what's the point. Weapons being uber, lasting forever, grenades that never run out, big flashy text telling you what's going on.... that's not what you do to capture your audience. It really does look like SWG is taking a turn for the UO. They're trying to make it too noob friendly, but this is making the rest of the game pay. I am starting to regret my investment in SWG.I'll edit it to update with more info as I get it.PS. The command queue is GONEMessage Edited by SlaserX on 03-31-2005 06:43 PM
Obviously you don't know much about crafting in SWG, and you're a totally newb to Test Center. For one thing, you should know that player crafted weapons are SUBSTANTIALLY more powerful than stuff the blue froggies dish out. The weapons that the blue froggies dispense are of the same quality as regular weapons looted of NPCs. If you knew anything about Test Center, or crafting, you would know this.
Why don't you grind to master Weaponsmith, find some good resources, craft all those weapons, and you'll see that the stats are substantially better. But no, you'd rather come here after being on TC for only 30 minutes and badmouth the Devs. Something wrong with you?
Oh, excuse me for my inexperience with TC. Excuse me for gawking at my frog given 90% base armor, my 200 max damage unsliced frog given VK, and etc. I can EASILY craft better than that on my server... shees... Is hould've known better!... Read a bit before mocking people. There are NO ELITE PROFESSION TRAINERS ON TC5 right now
Both of u are right (& wrong). When I did the TC for Jtl. I notice that almost every weapon had 100% in Dmg/speed, Condition, Range, & Ham (the T-21 Had an insanely low HAM), BUT, it looked as though all weapons had basic subs & no optinal subs. This make Melee weapons that need special resources higher in damage. So, the Blue Frog may be giving out High End Ranges with wimpy subs & no extras. For all I know, they may have removed the 100% from ranged weapons outright. Still It's a base.
Odd that the speed for the T-21 is the same as the Jawa & the bowcaster?!?

No, they aren't going to drastically change things, but they will make tweaks and probably lots of them. Maybe even enough that at the end of five weeks the CU will play much better than it does now. I'm just saying, don't condemn it on the first day of the beta test.
Btw, if you go into an interview and you don't even know what the hell the company does, you probably won't be getting the job no matter what your qualifications are. That's what I meant by doing your research on the company. Not researching it's stocks, but research it's field, what it does, who it's competitors are, etc. That helps you because it makes you better able to sell yourself to the company (and that's what an interview is really, you're selling yourself toa prospective employer). There are plenty of highly qualified people who never getthe job offer because they come off as ignorant/arrogant asses during the interview.
