Just performed a test.

used test macro:

/strafeshot2

/pause1.5

... repeats 10 times

/peace

grabed up my jawa (sliced, no power-up), knowing that I can sit and milk a lair all day, without ever destroying the lair.

Targeted a Spineflap nest, and let rip. The 1st 10 strafeshot2's killed all spawned spineflaps, and pulled 3 points of Cond from my Jawa

With all the flaps dead, I let loose another burst of 10 ss2's, and lost NO condition. This burst hit nothing but the lair, which takes no damage from stun attacks.

At this point, I started moving about shooting things both organinc and inorganic. Anything that took damage was dealing approx 1/5 point of cond damage to my weapon per creature hit. Average creature damage per hit was in the area of 800-1200 realized damage. This was regardless of using various specials or just /attack, everything was tearing it up.

In a period of 10-15 min of low intensity combat, I stripped 16 points of cond from the gun. This is a huge increase in condition loss, and appears to be directly related to damage realized by the target, as opposed to weapon use or attacks.

I would suggest that some of the other classes experiment with targets that are immune, highly resistant, and proneto their attacks to confirm, watching weaponcond loss compared to damaged applied to the target.

Here is me whacking away at some Giant Baz Nitches, I was on the second wave of the lair and killed about 8-10 critters along with the lair (doing mucho damage to the lair when it emptied), the two times on the bottom is the correct start/end times:

Start
Stop

Condition dropped from 753 to 750 in 1m48s in short

Ok, I had a guildmate test this, this was his data:

T21 Weapon Decay 10/29/04 by Azos

I fired 200 normal shots, and 100 Strafe Shot 2's to test this out tonight.

The 4 weapons used were all T21's, all with the same base stats:

1033/1033 Condition
175-405 Damage
7.5 Speed
36.3% wound
-70/+22/+10 Range Mods
71/65/106 HAM

The first weapon used was normal, unsliced and unpowered up.

Original Condition: 1033/1033
After 100 Normal Shots: 1028/1033 (-5)
After 200 Normal Shots: 1023/1033 (-5)
After 100 Strafe Shot 2's: 1021/1033 (-2)

The second weapon was sliced, and got a 26% damage slice. It was not powered up. It's stats were 220-510 Damage, with the rest being the same as the original.

Original Condition: 1033/1033
After 100 Normal Shots: 1025/1033 (-8)
After 200 Normal Shots: 1023/1033 (-2)
After 100 Strafe Shot 2's: 1022/1033 (-1)

The third weapon was powered up with a 33.16% Max Damage, 16.33% Min Damage powerup, but not sliced. It's stats were 203-539 Damage, with the rest being the same as the original.

Original Condition: 1033/1033
After 100 Normal Shots: 1017/1033 (-16)
After 200 Normal Shots: 1006/1033 (-11)
After 100 Strafe Shot 2's: 982/1033 (-14)

The final weapon was both sliced and powered up with a 33.16% Max Damage, 16.33% Min Damage powerup. It got a 32% speed slice, so it's stats were 203-539 Damage, 5.1 Speed, with the rest being the same as the original.

Original Condition: 1033/1033
After 100 Normal Shots: 1017/1033 (-16)
After 200 Normal Shots: 1002/1033 (-15)
After 100 Strafe Shot 2's: 986/1033 (-16)

To test a theory Nabe had about damage output effecting decay, I powered up the damage sliced T21 and did 100 normal shots and 100 Strafe Shot 2's. It's stats were 255-679 Damage, with the rest being the same as the original.

Condition before test: 1022/1033
After 100 Normal Shots: 1004/1022
After 100 Strafe Shot 2's: 989/1033

My feelings/conclusions:

1. Weapon decay with sliced weapons seems to happen randomly. I found it incredibly odd that the damage sliced weapon seemingly just decayed randomly, losing 8 points in the first 100 shots, but then only 2 points in the 2nd 100 shots, and only 1 point in 100 Strafe Shot 2's.

2. Powering up your weapon definitely increases the rate in which it decays, as can be seen by the results of the tests. The powered up weapons decayed much faster than the un-powered up weapons.

3. A sliced and powered up weapon decays around 3x as fast as an unpowered up, unsliced weapon, or really even a sliced, but unpowered up weapon. Something to keep in mind when considering using powerups on things like Krayt hunts, NS hunts, etc. Personally, the condition loss wouldn't be worth the extra damage, unless I'm trying to outdamage another group.

ULTIMATE CONCLUSION:

Weapon decay rate is still the same. Slicing appears to have no known effect on decay, however, powerups still do significantly increase decay rate.

So, there are two possible conclusions here.

a.) Only certain weapons are affected. Looted weapons, weapons made with looted components, weapons made from limited schematics, rare weapons, melee weapons, could be anything.

OR

b.) Some of you might've just had a bad string of luck.

To test the former, it will be difficult. Those of you certain that you are noticing severe decay increase, please post what specific weapon you were using and whether or not it was krayt'd, gorax'd, acklay'd, dropped, limited schematic'd and what have you. I highly doubt any of you want to run out and waste your high-end looted guns to test decay, so that is understandable!

Edit: The Slicing not significantly affecting decay has been tested before and it appears that data is still accurate. Original thread can be found here.

I am noticing that the decay rate is much higher on my pistols vs my LLC.

Have your friend try out test using pistols.

I used a brand new laser carbine to kill two Bolle Bol Stompers. This weapon has not been sliced and I lost 9 points of condition from thisbrief combat. Before pub 11 I would have expected to loose about3 points of condition under the same circumstances.

I realize that my experience was not as scientific as what was posted above, but my weapon decay is much worse than it was before. Decay seems to be roughly triple what it was previously.

Notes:

- I used a 32.4% speed / 16% min damage powerup.

- The weapon was not sliced.

- The weapon used no looted components.

- The only special used was Full Auto Single 1.

- The weapon was hand made and not from a factory crate.

I am going to do further testing today, unfortunately my character currently has no pistol skills, and few extra skill points. I would assume that ranged weapons would all have the same decay rate (rifles, carbines, pistols), whereas LLC's fall under Heavy Weapons.

Hopefully, I will have time to test this with Pikes today, as I have a few high damage looted pikes, and a few crafted ones, to see if the decay rate is different on loot drop items.

Please do this test again, but do not powerup your weapon this time. Powering up the weapons seemed to make them lose a lot more condition than simply slicing, which seemed to have little effect on it.

One thing to note about my experiments, is that I was shooting an alternate character, which would have the PvP damage reduction. In order to test PvE damage, I did further testing, this time with the 2nd weapon (damage sliced, not powered up). I did 200 more normal shots, and 100 more Strafe Shot 2's. I was mainly attacking Bolle Bols and Spineflaps.

Condition before testing: 989/1033
After 100 Normal Shots: 985/1033
After 200 Normal Shots: 981/1033
After 100 Strafe Shot 2's:979/1033

EDIT: Edited out this part of my post because I actually feel decay has a direct relation to damage output, but it's not effected by the PvP reduction.
