CDEF its either corellian defensive firearms, or corellian defensive energy firearms. Both make sense. You would have to be a fool to use them to attack. These are for stinging kids that tag buildings. Then again the weapons weilded by the corsecs are not cdefs. They are called corsec in the name. So this stuff might be an entire sideline. Early in the game. People wanted to get their hands on corsec firearms. It was the krayt of the day. When everyone carried a cdef, and weaponsmith weapons was a far off dream.

Though when I think long and hard about it. I actually think the guns really mean core system defensive firearms. These guns do not come from corellia they come from coruscant. I also think this was posted before, and we did get a definitive answer run a search for cdef. You might find the thread.
