Hold on a second here fellows. Before I tell you what the CSRs said on my ticket, let me explain a couple things to you.
You all know the reason they won't craft is because the stabilizer has no serial # (it drops like that which is a bug). The schematics were all recently revamped to prevent use of no-serial number components due to an exploit that was occurring with solidifying agents and reinforcement core schematics.
So, SOE will *not* change the schematic to allow use of no-serial components - to do so would be to open up the exploit again. What SOE must do to fix this is to firstly modify the code so that the stabilizers drop with serial #s, and secondly give serial #s to all the existing (bugged) stabilizers).
Giving serial #s to no-serial components is not a 'slight programming change' as you put it in the original post. It likely involves writing a procedure to transfer a database table to a newly created one with an extra column. With unique IDs etc this is something that takes time and testing to ensure it works properly when run - a screwed up database is nobody's friend.
I submitted a CSR ticket several weeks ago when i received my first stabilizer. The CSRs responded that I should keep the item and they would be patched soon. I added a comment to the ticket asking if that meant I should keep the item in my personal inventory. The CSR responded no, just do not delete it, a patch would be run very soon to add serial #s to all of the stabilizers.
So chill out and have a bit of patience.
I have patience but this has been too long

I have a ton of these barrels unserialed and i have /bugged a ton of times and sent in tickets as well. I have been promised many times now that they are working on the problem. I just dont understand why they cant just go to the wp provided and exchange the old barrels for new. And i know that can be done as they have done that for me with other items.

on a related note, on intrepid, i looted 9 heavy duty leather from a sister one night. they had no serial number, and at the time i though this would be great for making mass quantities of an item from a schematic. at that time, i never thought of it as an exploit. i threw them in a pack in my bank safe deposit box. some time (weeks) later i happened to look, and they have serial numbers now. i am 100% positive that they did not when i looted, and do now. this is the only set of 9 i have ever had. somehow, somewhere, they acquired a serial number, assumedly in a patch update?
and on another related note, a guildie recently gave me a pack of 38 alderaan flora to make him dead-eye serum with. i didnt know that the no-serial-number thing had been changed to be disallowed in schematics or individual crafts. after trying to craft, and not having the flora show up as a resource, even after a full scan, another guildie told me about the no-serial-number patch. i heard all the alderran flora is unserialized, so docs are alsofeeling the woes, as are the people who ran the missions over and over for it.
as for the trade in of no-serial-number parts, i had the exact same thought that night. npc creature handler trainers can take an old pre-nerf lvl 12 pet and turn it into a level 10 pet this way, so why not the same for the people with the berserker or alderaan flora problem? heck, why not just make it one place to make it simple, like make them take it to watto's shop, where the little boy good with machinery can fix it for you.

Well...all combat professions (other than Jedi) rely on our goods. The way I see it, Weaponsmiths make the world-go-round. Yet we get the shaft! No special attention, just temporary schematics and a quite popular one is borked. Got to love it.
