Thread: An explaination... Base DPS vs Modified DPS (please read!)

Sorry, I don't buy that special cooldowns are not impacted by weapon speed.
Take a rifle, run your specials. Then add one of my -34.11% speed reduction powerups. Take the same rifle, your same skill set, and run your specials again! Watch the timers spin like crazy.
I am not saying this is better (SAC can kill you) but it does impact it.
Nope. They cap. I'm sure if I tried it as a 4xxx marksman and not master rifleman, I may see a noticeable difference. But with profession speed mods added in, you hit the 'cap' on the cooldown of the specials. If they weren't capped as such, you could technically do just about inifinite damage every second. To prevent that, they cap. So those speed p-ups will only make so much difference (and little to none that I've noticed at master, at least on the weapons I have personally).
And yes, one of the above posters is correct - this is getting off topic. It looks like that in trying to provide a gentle reminder that DPS isn't the end-all be-all thing to consider in a weapon, it's dragged another discussion into the mix. For that, I'm sorry. Let those who swear by their speed p-ups do just that for all I care. What works for me works for me, and if what works for you is different - glad you found what you like.
Happy huntin'!

Wow! You need to read some different posts here on these boards mate. DPS is NOT the be all, end all.
There are many other stats that are just as relevant if not more so. I would never only look @ the DPS. It can actually be rather meaningless in some cases. It all depends on what you need your gun for.
And as for posting a TF post here, well mate....TFN
Wow you need to actually read my post.
This is not an argument of which stat is most important. Nor is it an offer to sell. Its simply to explain to people what the difference between base dps and modified dps is. Im sorry you have totally misread the point and i have to explain the explanation to you, but this is the exact reason I feel this needs to be said. So we dont get people trying to compare a 800dps(Pup and mod) with someone's 300dps. (base).
This is not about the importance of DPS or SAC. its simply how to read DPS correctly.

Aye, I was bad....apologies...![]()

- sea +25 generic speedand +25 specific speed
- Fast rifle
- speed powerup
- speed buff from doc
- lots of generic speed from template
at about 140-160 speed you see little to no gain. (you need hordes of speed there to gain real speed increase
have fun playing around with this
y = weapon speed
x = player speed mod
y = {- 6.91935E-08x^3 + 3.71633E-05x^2 - 6.75155E-03x +1} *original weapon speed
check for player speed around 200 ^_-

Heh, you say that like I can run down to the bazaar and pick up a couple for a few thousand creds.
I'd heard that the doc buff doesn't add all that much. But then again, it was secondhand info and I won't put too much stock in that. Is it worth seeking out regularly? Or if it's that useful, re-templating an alt in order to keep my MRM speed buffed?
Piqued my curiousity now. :-)
anyone of these speed increases is pretty much nothing by themselves... but if you use them all together...
+ I forgot one. The rifleman Speed stim helps as well.

At that point I'd remove the grip (speed) powerup, and slap on a -27+% SAC stock. Currently with a grip I can alternate headshot and advanced critical 6 times in 6 seconds (or little under 7 seconds), but lose my entire Action Bar. Whereas, if I put a stock on, I can fire for roughly 5 minutes with nothing but specials (granted, I am using Blob Candy and Neutron Pixie). It seems like the improved speed mods have more of an effect when not using a grip, however, I have only tested briefly with a +7 general speed.

i agree with you and the highest DPS i have made so far is a 390 base DPS E11 Mark II carbine.
290 or 390? If 390 you would need to cap min and max damage while having around 1.9 speed. Not sure how feasible it is with 12 but I'm sure it's much harder with 10.
Edit: 12 points and 10 points.

I'm pretty sure it would be possible on Bria a guy has made a 384 Base DPS Scatter, it shouldn't be too much harder to make a 390 E11 Mk2.
