What's most disheartening is SOE's utter lack of acknowledgement about this showstopper. It's almost as egregious as the bug itself.

Actually I found alt tabbing out the game does not good... what does seem to work for me is to just hit Alt twice, this kind of refreshes the window and the stats now appear. Same trick used when a harvester's resource has dried up but the harvester hasn't turned off. Hitting alt the first time cause the window to dissapear and then it reaprears after you hit it again.

You know what would be really nice?
For a dev just to make a post on each crafting prof saying hey we are working on this please hang in there.

According to the new TC patch notes, it seems just a timing problem.
I checked today on live and verfied that the display is not broken by itself just seems to need some time to initialize.
So the workaround is the following: Start crafting wait about 30 seconds and then start experimenting and you will see each change normally from then on.
The display is only updated on experimentation use, so if you experiment immediately a few points and then wait you must use another exp point to see the chnages after the wait time (both ways seem to work all the time).
So all the Workarounds with alt-tab or alt or using one point at a time work sometimes if you spend enough time doing these "fun stuff" for the display to awake from its sleep.
With this informationit is annoying but not really a game breaking bug and could easily fall through the test fixes as a display bug and wasn't considered as important enough to give it high priority.

Sure doesn't work for me...none of the ideas for a work around have worked for me.
I have made a few Krayt weapons for my sliced weaponsvendor, so players have to look at the stats anyway. I guess this is a good time to catch up on Master Artisan goodies (not effected by bug) and play with my alt.
