Update: Crafting Experimentation Changes
I wanted to stopin and give you an update. The team understands the scope of the changes with crafting experimentation and how it is going to effect you guys. The team has discussed this at great length and as we "speak", we're putting together a long informational post to explain the bigger picture of whats happening.
Once we post that, we can discuss the changes in the thread, address your concerns and answer your questions. The current ETA is sometime tomorrow.
All due respect TH, but shouldn't this have been done before causing all this madness on the boards? I just seems that all the crafters\correspondants are totally against these changes and if this stuff was communicated to the correspondants (who then could write it up and explain the big picture to the rest of the crafters) it may have avoided this madness. It seems like every month or so you or c3po makes a post on how you all want to communicate better with the players and here we have a virtual riot happening on the boards with people carrying theirpitchforks and torches ready to storm the castle. Could all this been avoided with some "In Concept" discussion on this rather then just doing it and telling the players about when you are 50%-75% done? I mean you all are now leaking out Pub7 with these changes in, dispite the uproar from the crafter community....this doesnt look very good with regards to how well this communication is working (infact it seems to support those who say SOE ignores the players..I don't subscribe to that theory btw...but it could look that way here "from a certain point of view").
Well said!

Yeah, on 2 accounts, one a master doc, I break my rule and sign a petition...
This change on TC is tantamount to dev-inspired griefing... They wrecked my last character (a CH), why ruin my doc now, too. A boy could feel victimised.

There's communication, but mostly it's about as useful as "There's no way people will have town halls placed within 30 minutes!"

With all due respect a change like this being so far reaching and all it should have gone thru in concept and in dev stagesbefore ever hitting the test scene as now you are just going to recieve the wrath of the crafting playerbase by changing the very foundations without telling us about it!
The new forums are great they can really help but they need to be used for things like this (sounds like the soon to be released info would have gone into the in-dev forums quite well)! Crafters are currently looking down at the up and comming publish7 and going well dang-it-all(will this of won't rhis make it thru the filter ...) this came out of nowhere! We got no chance to discuss this as now it seems fata acompli (sp?) and we now have another infamous petiton that goes of the charts so to speak.
Oh /sign btw! *sigh* ![]()
I just hope that the powers that be learn a lesson from this saga and use the tools that have been setup to communicate major changes to the players hitting us with an in-test and test notes saying oh btw experimenting is now totally different was always going to be asking for trouble. I was actually heartened when the discussion forum was closed (it was a painful read even for an avid player at the best of times) but you are now starting to shake the faith of this old wookiee here (slightly re-heartened by the armour announcement tho
)!

My prediction:
1) They will tell us this is part of the greater combat balance and it will all even out in the end.
2) They won't tell us when the mythical combat balance will actually all be in place.
3) They will tell us that it really is more fun to just be able to max out 1 experimentation line and have all weapons be the same.
4) They will tell us that we are crafters and so we should be making 50 million a day and so we shouldn't have a problem buying experimentation tapes.
5) They will tell us they know about the gated resources and will fix them somehow after they fix the Jedi, the combat classes, the entertainers, the image designers, the droid engineers (they need to be 'fixed' to the point where they can complain with the rest of us), and after they add droid 'utility' modules (that no one really finds useful). And since it is such hard work and that they are so understaffed they will get to it in a future publish.(Which equates to about publish 38 but they won't tell us that.)
100% correct. Agreed. 5-Stared.
