Thread: How much should I pay for a slicing contract?

60-90k in 5 minutes or less, not 15.
What was posted above is correct, you are paying for the smuggler's time. As for the Krayt tissue comment, yes you pay more for them than they are typically worth because of what you can make off the weapon when/if all things align for you. A high sliced acklay hammer or Krayt scatter pistol is worth a ton of creds. What you propose, is for arguably the most difficult (to reach the proper outcome) and least probable step of that process (the high damage slice) you would pay 5k.
My point is and remains, prices like that are not enough to even get me to reply to a tell.
Sure I make deals, and if people are sending plenty of work my way I will price accordingly. The discounts (from 10k a slice) start in at around 8-9 slices (or a full suit of armor). For a suit I charge 60k. If you come to me with 2 crates of weapons, I may charge you 300k.
Slicing in volume for creds (orweapons/resources) is a money maker, Hopping on board a shuttle to meet you and slice your two laser rifles for 6k is not smart business.
All I am trying to do is keep the smuggler community from misrepresentation. Smugglers that charge 3k per slice or less are hurting the entire profession.
What kills me is that people will happily shell out 70k for a factory made T-21 but not pay more than 5k to add up to 35% effectiveness to it. Chumps that charge pennies for slices are what set that standard.
*edit* I love that I got one starred for representing an opinion other than the majority.

Heh, if that was the case I would happily tip back your 3k. If I was stupid enough to accept that price in the first place. Even speed sliced you would still be able to sell that weapon, and I am sure you would manage to recoup your 10k that I charged you.

The thing that I did was give my Master Smuggler all the free weapons he wants. He can pick anyof the normal non-loot enhanced weapons he wants. I made them within a day and he was satisfied. I also made all of the WUKs and gave him access to a factory to make clamps. It was mutually beneficial for both of us.
As for MrSensitive 300k for 2 crates of weapons is absurd.

Drupps,
That is great if you can work out arrangements like that with a smuggler.
300k for 50 slices is by no means absurd. If I am slicing powerhammers for you, a single 33% or higher damage slice will sell for at least 300k. What I am saying is that nobody is used to seeing these prices from smugglers and that is why it seems so shocking.
What very few smugglers seem to realize is that for the time they spend trying to land 3-5k slicing jobs they could have easily gone out and made 2-3x that by running missions. They also aren't inconvenienced by the ignorance and piss poor attitudes of the people that want their "uber leet pwnzor" rifle to get only a 35% damage slice.
Most people who contact me to slice that have played a smuggler happily pay my fees. The ones that have not don't, so they will continue to waste time (and credits) by looking for another smuggler.

I always let them have their pick of the slices too for normal weapons. It usually works out better then paying 5k+ for a slice on a weapon that will only sell for 5k like most pistols.

That is a perfectly acceptable alternative to individual slice prices.

Than you should never be a doctor

It is exactly this that keeps me from entering into this kind of business. 5k a slice isn't worth the time it takes to make the slices.
In the same amount of time I could have sliced a terminal run 2 jant missions and repeated. 20 slices for 100k is garbage, especially when you know how much value even a mediocre slice adds to your weapon.
These kind of prices are what made me start my own sliced weapon vendors. I buy from you all by the crate, slice and price my way.
Good luck keeping a smuggler interested in this work when you are paying him 100k or less for 10 minutes of his or her time.
Did somebody up there say they were paying 1k per slice? My god, you can't get me on a shuttle for less than 8k. What people are willing to pay for things is so damn out of wack in this game.

I have a master doctor also. There is no comparison between the earning potential between them. When you break it down to credits/ minute, the doctor outdoes even a masochistic (public smuggler) by 10x.

I don't see how 10k/slice is unreasonable as a weaponsmith. I would pay 500k for 2 crates of 25 weapons. Like said 1 good slice will sell for near what you paid for the slices. I try to treat all the smugglers well that way even if they are busy sometimes they will still slice a few for me. One smuggler I went to sliced 6 weapons for me. One of the Scythes happen to get a 35% damage slice. I turned around and gave her 200k for them. Why? Because I knew I would make a ton of that scythe, and I did.
So after all being said and done 10k does not hurt us to pay. Although I do have one smuggler that has raised her price on me since I have been giving her 10k each. I may not go to her anymore. Had 17 weapons sliced the other day (which I normal shouldve/wouldve tipped 170k) and she asked me for 176,400. I paid it and walked away. She said nothing. So she will probably not being seeing my business again.

Did I mention if it were I slicing 50 weapons, I would be bored out of my mind? That in itself is worth 10k.

Thanks for the backup Waiterfurall, I thought I was going to get drawn and quartered here.
It sounds like that smuggler you were speaking about tried switching to some wacky credit/percent pricing scheme. I thought about doing that for a while but found it to be more trouble than it was worth and gave too much stroke to the random number generator. I actually wouldfeel bad if Istarted getting a run of 30%+ slices on low to mid range weapons under one of those schemes. You have a good attitude about it and certainly won't have a hard time retaining the services of a good smuggler though.
and yes...slicing crate after crate of weapons gives new definition to the term boring.

I agree most people don't see smugglers slicing crates for prices like that so it is shocking.

pay them WELL. Give them free krayt pistols. Cherish your smuggler(s) because slicing is the most boring and mundane activity you can think of and a bulk slicer with any staying power is practically non-existant.
Did you master your crafting profession without grinding? in that case: /salute
no, I ground my ass off for my title. And I'm grinding FS crafting as well.
But grinding has an end in sight, and once you reach the light at the end of the tunnel, you're done for good, and better off for it. Slicing is pure grinding, with no end in sight. Just more grinding for more chump change. Ask yourself if you'd be willing to spend an hour crafting and only make 200k. Considering an hour of crafting usually translates into millions for us (tens of millions for some of us /chuckle), I think it's retardedly arrogant to suggest a smuggler is being greedy for wanting more than a pittance for his toils.
