Thread: CU in new Expansion?

That's why I asked for confirmation when I started this thread.
I had not seen an announcement from SOE about when and how the CU would be available--I most likely missed it since I've been rather busy at work.
Thanks for all the info.
My pleasure. Really, when you think about it, it can't possibly be any other way. You can't have people who choose not to purchase the expansion still operating under the old combat system while everyone who DID purchase it is using the new. It just doesn't work.
The CU will bea free upgrade to any and all existing subscribers because it HAS to be for technical reasons (the same reasons that whether or not you bought JTL you got Ithorian and Sullustan PC models pushed down to your client).
- And experience the all new combat system featuring new weapons, new armor, new effects and an all new user-interface to make combat even more engaging and fun!
Pre-Order Star Wars Galaxies: Episode III Rage of the Wookies for $24.95 in early April 2005 – don’t miss this exciting new chapter in the only online Star Wars experience – where the adventure continues this spring!

Amazing! How do you know it will work like this, exactly, considering that no one has actually played it yet (outside of the dev team)? I'm curious. I mean, if you're going to proclaim the sky is falling, you'd better have a piece of it in your hand already. =P

Great, as if harvesting resources on the ground wasn't tough enough as a elite crafting profession with limited combat abilities, As if it wasn't time consuming enough, now they add this "new" way to gather resources. where we have to brave slews of pirates and probably get a bunch of resources (probably like the Sith resources) which are one unit each and dont stack.
I can see how this will work.. no you don't land on an asteroid and drop a harvester. you blow it up (visions of a triangular white blip on an old atari game come to mind) and then loot a couple of resource units and fly away and blow up more asteriods.. all the while getting chased by slews of pirates.
65% of my time ingame is harvesting resources and now with this "New Mining missions" it will probably jump up to 90%.
Sorry Sea,
I forgot to post a disclaimer.
The previous post by Whrlwnd13 is sheer speculationcoupled with sarcasm. The sky may or may not be falling. Past performance (or lack thereof) is no guarantee of future results.

I've always said that the Internet needed to come with <sarcasm> and </sarcasm> tags. Until it does, however, I just fight sarcasm with more of my own, eventually devolving things down to a second or third grade level of "uh huh!" and "nuh uh!" wars. Try it, it's fun. ![]()
I knew you were being sarcastic, it's just that so many people in this forum (and others) complain endlessly about changes and percieved nerfs that they've heard about only through rumor. It's like having our very own SWG papparazzi or something. So I tried to tweak you a bit. Apologies if it came off harshly.

Does this mean that the CU is going to hit us in early april?
To be honest... I fear the CU and I was hoping it was much further away than that.
May 5th says the advertise for the expansion. I am pretty sure they will release on that date.
I fear the CU as well, because if it is a faílure it will be the death of SWG (maybe). And only 2 months away and no beta testing yet. I hope that they don't release the CU at same time if it is not 100% ready. Guess they could since the expansion can probably be made without the CU anyway.
This might end up in any of the following scenarios:
1)Expansion + CU is released on 5th may, with maybe a month of beta testing for tweaks. Everything works fine expcept the ordinary release bugs and misses that need some hot fixes to be solved
2) Expansion + CU is released but is no where near being finished
3) SOE announce: "becuase of ... bla bla and the coming CU will change this much .. bla bla ... we have decided to wait with releasing the CU until after we have released the new expansion. We will soon starting to collect player opinions about the CU from correspondants and will post documentation in 2 weeks.
We've heard all about new weapons, but very little on when and how things are going to change. As a software engineer, it is troubling that I've heard nothing about testing. This is going to be a massive change and it is only a couple of months out. Look at how many times SOE has "fixed" krayt dragon drops over the past week and.... Well, I'm just hoping this doesn't totally break the game.
So far, all I know is that at the latest the CU will be released with the expansion. It may be released earlier, but, from the sounds of it, won't be released any later.
And yes, I realize it would have to be seperate from the expansion and free: You just can't manage two versions of this game with different combat systems. So, the CU will be applied to everyone.
You listed 3 scenarios, but is also possible that the CU will be released before the expansion. However, I don't think it is likely. I'm hoping that your scenario #1 is accurate, but I think it will fall somewhere between 1 & 2.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this upgrade (and the expansion) don't suck. Otherwise, a lot of people might abandon the game.
Personally, I'd be happier if I knew more about what was really being changed. Pretty pictures of new weapons are nice, but they don't tell if I'm stockpiling what will end up being worthless resources and weapons. What a great way to go bankrupt. In the meantime, I'm saving money, just in case.
