I'm not privvy to all the details of what occurred, but suffice to say that removing Oa from his position was not something that SOE did lightly. Whatever precipitated it, I've no doubt that they had valid reasons for their actions, whether you or I agree with them or not.

The correspondent program is something I've yet to see duplicated in other games, and it lays a tremendous amount of responsibility on those who participate in it. We are expected to be the conduit for information from our communities -- essentially representing hundreds or thousands of players -- to the developers, and to provide feedback when asked. We're all passionate and knowledgable about our professions, otherwise we wouldn't be here. It can often be difficult not to let that passion and desire to do what we feel is right for our respective communities overcome the professionalism and courtesy that is expected of us.

In any event, I recommend that we all let sleeping dogs lie, lest the mods take offense. The situation doesn't directly concern us; let's not complicate everyone's lives by forcing our way into it.

Mythic's had it in DAoC since 1999 at least. Exact same set up. SWG didn't begin with Correspondents -- they were added a few months later.

Anarchy Online has a similar system as well, using two people per profession rather than one. So, no, it's not unique to SWG by a long shot. That said, I've never seen someone get fired from the other programmes though.

Everquest implemented class correspondents about a year ago too.... in part a response to the mass uprising after the POS expansion called Gates of Discord (and now that I think about it, rather aptly named).

I don't think I've seen a class yet that is happy with how the CU is going....

My bad then. SWG is my first MMORPG experience, and I was mistaken.

Wahts the point of the position if there is no dialog tough? Let sleeping dogs die till evrything is fubared?

There is dialog and there is making a nuisance of oneself. Players in the correspondent position must have a firm grip on the difference between the two. In our zealousness to improve the state of the game, it is not unheard of for corrs to cross that line (just as many regular posters do in their fervor).
