To get started in any crafting profession, the easiest route to take in myopinionis to look up the top end resources (on swgcraft.com)that are spawning on your server for any profession(jedi resources are great to sell and typically go for higher prices than any other profession, hey they love their lightsabers and will spend 10 million for a resource...lol). Off the top of my head, there is a guy on our server who sells jedi resources in the range of 300k for stacks of 5k resources....that's 60 cpu easy and he sells quite a bit,....but he deals with nothing but the best resources ever so I guess he can do that. Now sell all your resources to turn a profit. In no time you will have millions of credits. Once you have enough money (depends on your needs and server economyhow much is enough), you can then buy all the very best WS resources you can find. If at all possible, buying resource deeds is a good path to take as you can use them to get resources that don't spawn anymore.

The backbone of any crafting profession is having the top end resources no matter if your a novice WS or a master WS. The resource quality is far more important than everything else. Once you have the great resources, you can pick and choose what you want to specialize in and sall. After you have your resources, you can think about getting the exp. suit and stuff. STay on top of the server wide vendor search option because sometimes you can find gems of CA's for dirt cheap. I found a +5 WS experimentation tape for 1000 credits a around first month of CU.....Needless to say I rushed right over and did some fast clicking before anyone else. I also found a few more exp. CA's for pretty decent prices. In the end, my whole suit cost me less than 1 million credits. When I look on my server forums, I see the same suits going for 20 million or more. I could never afford that with the bank that I had......so the vendor search was my friend.

There are certainly other ways you can get started, but at least for me (after my 5th crafting profession), this was the best and fastest path in my experience. However, this was easy for me because my servers population is the second largest and customers were everywhere. I tried this on Infinity and it was much harder because there just wasn't enough people to buy and sell to. So server population plays a major role also.

On a final note....if anyone is doing WS to make money, Not trying to discourage you, but selling loot or resources is far more profitable than any other method of making money. So don't get into this profession for the money....I do it becuase I like crafting guns and I love to see a satisfied customer when they use my weapons. Doesn't matter if it's a master profession weapon with the best loot enhancements or if it's a CL10 weapon, as long as my customer is getting what they want and are happy, that's reason enough for me to keep crafting. Besides, I make more money with my jedi in a day than I do with my weaponsmith in 2 weeks.

So in short....

Resources

Then credits

Once you have enough credits, you can do or be anything in this game, kinda like real life...LOL

It's several pieces of clothing that can be worn together that have a plus mod to Weapon Experimentation on them. When worn together, all the mod's stack up to give you +20 or greater which gives you two more points to use during experimentation.

I'm still a 10 pt WS I do fine (not 12pt simply don't have the credits yet). But I also use the best resources I can find on server. This is my second character so I started putting in about 6 million into both Master Artisan and Master WS.

I primarily make wpns for myself so I don't mine then not being double capped seeing as I can craft as many as I want and pup them till they die out.

But if WS is your only character that suit is needed but not having it won't neccessarily make you useless as a MWS if you have good resources all it will mean is that other people can craft better weapons than you.

SWG is a movie game, its multiplayer and it was rushed that's a trifecta for the making of a crappy game.

Some excellent posts and advice here. There seems to be a bit of a mini-boom in the numbers of WS at the moment. I'm not sure why that's happening, but i'm getting nearly as many tells from aspiring WS as I did during the respec frenzy a few months ago.

The unfortunate thing is that, almost without fail, they seem to want to jump straight in and make Krayt/EPC/RC weps without trying to learn the little nuances of the profession first. I've seen really nice enhancers wasted quite a few times.

But then I guess that's just an indication of the impatience that seems to have taken over the game. No one wants to spend time learning an intricate profession properly anymore, waiting for the really good resources etc etc.

And yes, 12pt is a must. And i'd say FS Crafting is pretty much a must if you're really serious about it too.

QFE and distilled your post...because I am experiencing EXACTLY the same thing. Of the 4 'advisee's' I am currently working with;

1 bought his way up with deeds and enhancers, makes only high-end stuff, and I think he will be fine...if he doesn't burn out.

1 is starting from scratch and has asked the right questions (ie. what should I be harvesting now?), and I think he will be fine as he seems to be in it for the long run.

2 have come to me asking for grinding advice and what to make with thier enhancers in the same sentence....I have a feeling these guys won't make it.

Oh, and what Orgama said about the 12 pt/FS for the serious crafter.

A 10 pt MWS with good resources applied to just the right small set of low-end (CL 20 and below) weapons and selling mostly on the bazzar can make about $400K a week minimum with little effort. Any orders for custom weapons that come along are just gravy on top of that.

Let me tell you, if you are starting out WS from scratch, be prepared for a LOOONG journey.

I got sick of the grind on my main character, so i just created a brand new character on a different server, and i decided to try crafting a wack.

Man it was a challange, but it was addictive, i had already played the game for a year, and i felt lost like a noob, and constantly asked the server veteran crafters for advice.

I started off as a Artisan, learning the ropes of crafting, selling resources on the bazaar. I made alot of money off Bone armour, and swoops.

Then i got WS, first thing that got me was the grind! it was intense, but i eventually made it to MWS. But once i got there, i was more lost than ever. I needed all these resources, and unlike artisan, they are difficult to find.

So i started hunting the Bazaar, and Vendors religiosly. At the same time i sold resources, and did Valarian dagger missions, selling the spinner blades for 800k a pop. After about 4 months of this i had a solid base of excellent resources between 93%-100%. I started crafting the low end weapons, but when i compared them to the server top WS's my weapons were just a tad underpar. Obviously because i was only a 10pter.

So i began my hunt for my 12pts.

Before the CU, crafting grendades was an extremely lucrative, but time consuming business. I decided to sell grenades to pay for the 12 pts. So i started a massive run of grenades, I had 8 lots dedicated to facotories making components, then grenades. By this time the CU was like a looming Hurricane, and everyone was stuck in its path, what the future for the game held was uncertain. I decideded to craft some grenades hoping that they will still be lucrative. But then the CU hit, and all the grendades went to crap. So i had to delete them all.... Also the CU made crafting very different, and i was now at a greater disadvantage to the 12ptr's because SAC became more important than speed and damage.

I was so dishearted that i stopped playing for a few months. However i am now getting back into it, and started off where i left. And have been rewared with crates of pre-CU stocks, that have converted amazingly!

All i can say buddy, is hang in there. Its a long long journey, i have still not gotten to where i want to be, but i have enjoyed most of the trip
