Im going to give it a fair chance, maybe wait a few weeks after it hits live before making any judgements.

I know of no other MMORPG that has a crafting system as dynamic as SWG's. They all tend to be plug-and-punch systems, with no experimentation, no product differentiation, no variation in resource quality.

If anyone hears of another game with a crafting system even close to SWG's, please speak up.

When I first started SWG, I remember saying "Why would I possible want to spend most of my time running around looking for stuff so I can craft? Where's the fun in that?" Oh, how wrong I was. Crafting was amazingly addictive, especially since my real job isn't much fun right now.

Between me and my friends, we know of no game that has a crafting system like SWG.

I'm going to give the CU a fair shake, but I don't see how I'm going to get the same satisfaction from a crippled crafting system as I do right now. I hope these are famous last words, but I kind of doubt it.

Are you all really planning to quit? No offense, but I think a lot of you are just angered by the CU. Obviously EVERYONE is getting nerfed, not just WS. I myself am considering picking up 20 Weap. Exp. points and starting a WS toon because it looks like a lot of fun and as good of a credit making oppurtunity current and post-CU as any in the game. When I did Armorsmith a year ago, it was fun for a while, but got boring fast because you're just making composite for the most part and once you hit that 80% kinetic mark that's pretty much it. Not much loot-armor, not as much as loot-made weapons. I think I'm still going to do WS.

If it was just weaponsmith getting CU-Screwed, I'd understand. But everyone is getting screwed, crafters especially by the looks of it. But things will adjust, and I think weaponsmith will still continue to be a lucrative crafter, and one of the most fun, as long as getting loots to make weapons is worth it and these "caps" don't make every gun the same damage.

And yeah, the ADK's do suck. Everyone and their mom has one now, some two or three, and that is really bad for the WS profession. It is one of the only things still making me contemplate going WS or not.

And about shipwright, I really wouldn't bother with that. Such a resource hog, and space in SWG has about as many ships flying around as we do in real life space (ok maybe not that few but JTL is really dead for the most part compared to the ground). JTL was a flop and a half because there really aren't many goals/rewards in space as there are on the ground. No ladder or nothing like that for PvP.

I still think Weaponsmith will be one of the best credit-makers post-CU. Just gotta see how hard it's gonna be to get the loots for weapons.

making credits is secondary, if that. A fun, creative and diverse system being destroyed is what most of everyone is lamenting about. If you're interested in creds become a resource-dealer

loots hah, i have everyone in quantity. But as it stands a lot of them are worthless now and later. 30 person group to get by the Kwi in geo?! oi!

There is a little more to it than that, but I do wish you luck. People will always need weapons and you will sell exactly what every other smith will make because those without 12 points will have to quit. I will stay long enough to see what happens. I have 4 accounts expiring in the end of May and dont plan to renew them at this time. My main account I will decide whether or not to continue it then. I may just overstock my server and sell weapons at 1cpu to run out the millions of resources I have accumulated over the last few years....hehe

I mastered WS on November 30, 2003, after months of grinding (by hand, no macro) camping next to my BER1 personal harvesters sampling all the steel I could, running faction delivery missions to pay the bills, selling the occasional weapon on the bazaar (did the tech line first), and have not, until the last 6 months or so, been what I consider a successful Weaponsmith (bad location, heh). With my new location in a well-travelled player city, I have just scratched the eight figure mark in my bank account (moved there with 80k), despite being just a 10 point smith. I found success selling quality weapons to a combat-happy populace, since I had collected most, if not all of the best resources for my chosen profession over the years I have played.

Enter the CU.

Now it looks like all of my hard work (and yes, any laypeople who are reading this thread, Weaponsmithing is work, as well as play) is turning into a big steaming pile.

My plans?

Finish my Shipwright grind, get my (now) three Shadowfire toons to Master Pilot, clean my banks, my houses, and my factories of all the sentimental garbage I have collected playing this game, put all of my great (I refuse to use the term 'uber' to describe things) resources, deeds, and what-have-you in my banks, on my person(s) and in my yachts and 2 POB ships per toon, then /cancel.

My toons on other servers can pare things down to bank levels because they haven't been too crafting intensive.

And yes, I have been testing the CU, both crafting (Master Artisan, Master Weaponsmith on one toon, Master Artisan, Master Shipwright on another--before the skill builders opened up) and a combat toon. I am less than unimpressed...negative 5 stars for the CU

I have applied for the RoTW beta test, hoping in vain that it will spark some last bit of interest from me, but if not, I honestly don't see myself buying 3 copies of it when it goes live...or even one copy for that matter.

$45 bucks more a month in my pocket is starting to look better and better, and my body will thank me for not sitting in front of the computer for hours on end anymore. No plans to play any other games atm, and certainly not SWG 2.0.

I used to be an artisan and a carbiner. I ended up dropping artisan because I need the points for fighting but still maintained carbiner.

I dont think being an artisan was a way to make money tho but I did enjoy it.

I am also an avid collector. I could make some good money trading speciality goods. Then i want on the loot hunt and made good money there too.

When CU was comming up I decided to turn my son's account in a Weaponsmith. Not to make money but because I remembered how much fun it was to make stuff as an artisan. I got my 12 points a whole bunch of materials and 20+ mil letter I can some good weapons. Many I still dont bother because I have got the best stuff.

I am not upset over CU over the 20+ mil thats likely gone down the toilet. I am sad that the game has been reduced in such as way. There isnt the that chance that you could break some new barrier in making better stuff. Read an earlier post about some guy who made his ABPH from 20/40 to 20/41 and he was please as hell. I understand that. Is the +1 going to make any real difference? No, but its trying to make the ultimate weapon that makes crafting fun. The mental food, buffs, armor and weapons.... its amazing.

But a system that works on levels that ALONE reduces the usefulness of making amazing weapons but then to top it all putting a cap on what could be achieved just makes the whole reason why you keep trying go away. Especially when a mediocre weapon can be as good because of a slice and the good weapon wont slice because its capped already.

I never had an ubber weapon but I worked on trying to upgrade what Ive got. And you know what I was happy with that. And I am a carbiner which makes me exceedling dangerous only to womp rats.

I find it incredible thatSOE getting this SO badly wrong. I am not talking about all the great new weapons, improving theStar Wars feel , etc.helping to introduce the notionof wearing different armour etc. No those are great. But breaking the essence that there ARE NO BOUNDARIES. If you keep trying and get lucky, every player can do something to improve themselves a little bit. Thats just amazing.... looks like its going to go.

So, back to topic, I would I leave? No, not straight away. But if the essense of the game is trully lost then I guess I will.

Well, one consolation, my newbie WS toon will soon be able to produce weapons as good as true WS veterans (at least with a help of a slice). But I guess as I wasnt doing it for the money, I will get a month of pleasure of it......

I was a carbiner and I felt a little hard done by but hell,

I'm seriously considering quitting if the system goes live even remotely close to the way it is.

besides the issues with weaponsmith, there are a number of things that are leading me out the door.

Weapon Certs I wont be able to equip my favorite weapon a Laser carbine unless I drop Nov Medic and some merchant.

With these template changes i'm still unable to wear armor that doesn't look stupid (composite is the only one i like) Unless I pick up Nov BH. (BTW the composite on TC-EP3didn't allow the user to change the color).

Since I have crappy armor (if any) and a virtually useless weapon. I wont be able to survey or maintain harvs without getting incapped every 3 seconds.

I'm going to give the CU about 2 weeks to decide if i'm going to stay. However, I don't have much hope for the devs tomake it worth staying.Once it goes live i'll change my billing cycle from every 3 months, to month-to-month in protest.

There are a lot of Real Life things that i haven't been getting to do (like work on restoring my 68 Barracuda Notchback) so the CU is a good excuse to quit this addiction.
